Video game actors, companies reach tentative deal to end nearly year-long strike over AI
The union for Hollywood's video game performers has reached a tentative contract with several video game companies, which may bring an end to an almost year-long strike tied to the use of artificial intelligence.
Members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists went on strike in July 2024 after negotiations with game industry giants came to a halt over AI protections.
SAG-AFTRA said that the unregulated use of AI posed "an equal or even greater threat" to performers in the video game industry than it does in film and television, because the capacity to cheaply and easily create convincing digital replicas of performers' voices is widely available.
The performers were worried that unchecked use of AI could provide game makers with a means to displace them — by training an AI to replicate an actor's voice, or to create a digital replica of their likeness without consent.
"Patience and persistence has resulted in a deal that puts in place the necessary AI guardrails that defend performers' livelihoods in the AI age, alongside other important gains," SAG-AFTRA national executive director and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said in a statement.
The union had been negotiating with an industry bargaining group consisting of signatory video game companies, including divisions of Activision and Electronic Arts.
Those companies include Activision Productions Inc., Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc., Electronic Arts Productions Inc., Epic Games Inc., Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc., Take 2 Productions Inc. and WB Games Inc.
The union said that it anticipates that the terms of a strike suspension agreement will be finalized with the companies soon.
Union members will remain on strike until such an agreement is reached.
The tentative contract deal still needs approval by the National Board and ratification by union membership. Video game performers had previously gone on strike in October 2016, with a tentative deal reached 11 months later, in September 2017.
That strike helped secure a bonus compensation structure for voice actors and performance capture artists.

Why Intel Stock Sank Today
Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) stock saw a day of big sell-offs in Wednesday's daily session. The chip company's share price closed out the day down 6.3% due to concerns that competitive pressures are mounting. Intel's valuation sank today following news about a product that Nvidia is readying that could compete with Intel in the central processing unit (CPU) space. Meanwhile, another report suggested that Advanced Micro Devices will continue gaining market share from Intel in the server CPU market. Is Intel's outlook in the CPU market about to get much worse? According to recent leaks, Nvidia is gearing up to launch two accelerated processing unites (APUs) for the consumer market that would combine a CPU and a graphics processing unit (GPU) into single products. Based on some limited perimeters, some leaked benchmark scores for the more advanced of Nvidia's rumored APUs point to performance that tops a comparable offering from Intel. Real-world performance may be more favorable in Intel in many situations, but moves from Nvidia to play a bigger role in the CPU space could still create significant competitive pressures. Making matters worse, a new report from Mercury Research suggests that AMD has continued to rapidly increase its market share in the server CPU space. According to Mercury's report, AMD managed to capture 40% of the CPU market for servers in this year's first quarter -- and it's poised to match Intel in market share sometime next year. What's next for Intel? Intel's path forward looks complicated. The company has missed out on the early growth market for artificial intelligence (AI) GPUs, and it's facing pressure in both the consumer and enterprise CPU markets. While the company's chip foundry unit has the potential to be an important national resource for the U.S., it remains to be seen whether its next-gen semiconductor fabrication platform will actually attract substantial interest from third parties seeking manufacturing services for their AI chip designs. Intel stock could surge if there are signs that its turnaround strategy is yielding results, but there's a lot of uncertainty on the table right now. Should you invest $1,000 in Intel right now? CLEAR, T-Mobile Modernize Workforce Identity Verification to Strengthen Enterprise Security
NEW YORK, June 11, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CLEAR (NYSE: YOU), the secure identity company, today announced that it worked with T-Mobile to deploy CLEAR1, the identity platform for enterprises, across its operations. CLEAR1 enables seamless and secure identity verification for employees, an experience that is as simple as taking a selfie. With this biometric multi-factor authentication (MFA) solution, T-Mobile is able to verify employees and other team members based on who they are – not just the phones and laptops they use or the passwords and security questions they know. T-Mobile uses CLEAR1 as an enhanced way to authenticate access to its platforms and systems using biometric MFA, which replaces legacy methods like passwords and one-time PINs. 'As cyber threats grow more complex and bad actors become more sophisticated, further securing T-Mobile starts with knowing exactly who's behind the screen,' said Mark Clancy, SVP, Cybersecurity at T-Mobile. It's a key step in strengthening our identity verification and better protecting our infrastructure, teams and customers.' "Identity is the foundation of trust in every organization," said Jon Schlegel, Chief Security Officer at CLEAR. 'CLEAR1 empowers businesses to strengthen security, reduce friction, and build confidence across their workforce. We're proud to help organizations meet today's threats head-on with a solution that's fast, secure, and built for the real world.' According to estimates from the U.S. Treasury, State Department, and FBI scams involving fake IT workers have generated hundreds of millions of dollars annually since 2018 — highlighting the need for identity-first strategies that strengthen cybersecurity and protect business continuity. CLEAR1 empowers organizations in the fight against sophisticated cyber threats by anchoring authentication in real identity, drawing from identity signals across biometrics, documents, device, and source corroboration–to maximize security and minimize friction for employees. The greatest competitive eater of all time has an appetite for more. Article content Article content According to TMZ Sports, Chestnut and Major League Eating actively are negotiating towards seeing the 16-time champion of the event return after a year on the sidelines due to a contractual beef. Article content The outlet also says that both sides are eager to get a deal in place for the event which is less than a month away. Article content Chestnut wasn't allowed by MLE to compete in last year's edition of the marquee eating contest due to his sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods — which TMZ reports is no longer a factor in discussions. Article content While Chestnut claimed that he was banned from the contest for signing with 'a rival brand,' MLE said that it was Chestnut's own choice to not compete this year in the contest that he had won 16 of the previous 17 years. Article content 'Joey was not banned. Joey chose not to compete in the contest the moment he chose to make an endorsement deal with one of Nathan's competitors,' an MLE rep told the New York Post at the time. Article content Patrick Bertoletti, who won the 2024 contest, admitted his victory had an asterisk due to the long-reigning champion's absence.
