Wicklow RNLI launched after yacht suffers difficulty in Irish Sea
The alarm was raised at 8.50pm when the all-weather lifeboat RNLB Bridie O'Shea slipped its moorings.
The volunteer lifeboat crew, under the command of coxswain Nicky Keogh, located the vessel approximately 20 minutes after launching in a position four miles south of Wicklow Harbour. Conditions on scene were calm wind, with calm seas and good visibility.
Mechanical issues with the yacht had caused its engines to fail. Once on scene, the volunteer crew assessed the situation. Given the fact that the yacht was unable to make safe progress without any wind and without any means of propulsion, a decision was made to establish a tow. The yacht was towed by the lifeboat to the nearest safe location which was Wicklow Harbour.
The vessel was secured alongside a short time later and all three casualties were assessed as being ok with no further attention required.
Speaking after the callout Deputy LPO Connie O'Gara said: 'This was a quick response by the crew and that along with their training helped bring three people safely ashore and we wish them well.
"As we approach summer, we would like to remind people planning a trip at sea to ensure they have a suitable means of communication to be able to call for help should the need arise. Let someone know where you are going and when you are due back and if you get into trouble or see anyone in difficulty, dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.'

43 new lifeguards for Kerry as bathing season officially kicks off in county
The new members of the vital life saving club recently completed their induction training at the Ballyheigue Community Centre. In attendance at Ballyheigue on the day were Cllr Jimmy Moloney, Cathaoirleach of the Listowel MD, and Kerry County Council Water Safety Development Officers Leo Hilliard and Niall Hogan. The local politicians were present as part of the raising of the recently acquired Blue Flag at Ballyheigue Beach. A major highlight of the day at the North Kerry beach was a visit from one of the new AW189 Coast Guard helicopters. As part of the day's activities, the Coast Guard helicopter arrived on-site to provide lifeguards and local rescue units with a safety briefing and a tour of the aircraft. Kerry was awarded 15 Blue Flags for the 2025 bathing season; the 15 blue flag beaches for 2025 are Rossbeigh, Inch, Derrynane, Kells, Baile an Sceilg (Ballinskelligs), Ballybunion North Beach, Ballybunion South Beach, Ballyheigue, Banna Strand, Fenit, Fionntrá (Ventry), Maharabeg and White Strand, Cahersiveen.

Woman's body recovered from water near Wicklow beach
The Greystones Coast Guard Unit and Wicklow RNLI were both alerted after the 999 call was received The body of a woman aged in her mid-50s was recovered from Silver Strand in County Wicklow on Saturday after a member of the public reported what they thought was a body in the water. The Greystones Coast Guard Unit and Wicklow RNLI were both alerted after the 999 call was received and immediately launched in order to make their way to the scene south of Wicklow town. A body was located floating in the water at around 2.30pm and was brought back to Wicklow RNLI Lifeboat Station. Wicklow gardaí and the National Ambulance Service were waiting at the lifeboat station for the arrival of the body and the gardaí are currently liaising with the woman's family as they continue their investigation into the tragic incident.
