A growing number of Singaporeans are turning to the Careers and Skills Passport , an online tool launched by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) in November 2024, to strengthen their employability and streamline job applications. As of April 30, 315,000 individuals have used the platform to consolidate and verify their career, skills, and training records Designed in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Education and GovTech, the tool offers workers a centralised and secure way to present verified professional credentials , academic qualifications, and skills acquired through SSG-funded or self-initiated training. These verified records can supplement résumés and be selectively shared with employers and job portals such as Jobstreet and FastJobs. So far, 4,900 users have shared their digital profiles with potential employers. The tool is part of a wider push by SSG to build a future-ready workforce as it marks its 10th anniversary in 2025. At a commemorative event attended by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and key ministers, SSG also announced new workforce initiatives , including the upcoming SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme. The scheme, launching later this year, will provide up to $6,000 over six months to lower- and middle-income job seekers who remain unemployed. With over 500,000 workers undergoing training annually and employer participation doubling to 24,000 since 2015, SSG is intensifying efforts to embed skills-first hiring and learning across industries. CEO Tan Kok Yam emphasised the need to support individuals in managing career health and enable businesses to hire based on skills rather than credentials alone.

This Indian-Origin CEO Bought His First Home At 12. Now, He Is Singapore's Youngest Billionaire

Last Updated: At just 12 years old, under the guidance of his father, Kishin purchased his first property—an experience that sparked a lifelong fascination with real estate. Kishin RK, the 42-year-old CEO of RB Capital Group, has been named Singapore's youngest billionaire in 2025, with an estimated net worth of US$1.6 billion, according to Forbes. Although Kishin is the sole heir of Indian-origin real estate magnate Raj Kumar Hiranandani, his rise has been shaped as much by personal drive and independent choices as by family legacy. One of only six Singaporeans under the age of 50 to feature on Forbes' billionaire list this year, Kishin exemplifies a rare blend of generational legacy and self-driven innovation in the high-stakes world of real estate. Real Estate Journey At 12 Kishin's introduction to property development came early. At just 12 years old, under the guidance of his father, he purchased his first property—an experience that sparked a lifelong fascination with real estate. By 18, he sold an apartment gifted by his parents and used the proceeds to establish RB Capital Group in 2006, charting a course for an independent business journey. In a past interview with Tatler Asia, Kishin reflected on his career aspirations, saying that while he once considered finance and hospitality, it was real estate that 'allowed him to build something lasting." Building A Legacy Despite hailing from a prominent real estate family—his father's Royal Holdings is a major player in Singapore's property scene—Kishin was determined to forge his own identity. RB Capital, under his leadership, has focused not just on property acquisitions but on developing signature commercial and hospitality projects from the ground up. His official involvement in the family business began in 2003, but a pivotal moment came in 2011 when his father and uncle divided their real estate holdings. Post-split, Kishin and Raj Kumar became a formidable duo—jointly managing a portfolio estimated to be worth US$10 billion. Global Expansion And Middle East Pivot In a strategic move to expand beyond Asia, the family launched the RB Family Office in late 2024, headquartered in Abu Dhabi Global Market. The initiative aims to grow its presence in the Middle East, leveraging the UAE's business-friendly environment to manage global investments. According to Forbes, the combined wealth of Kishin RK and his father Raj Kumar currently stands at US$3.15 billion. Despite his billionaire status, Kishin remains grounded. Colleagues and associates often speak of his humility, noting that he treats everyone with the same courtesy—whether senior executives or hospitality staff. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kishin's philanthropic instincts came to the fore. He co-founded Tiffin Labs, a cloud kitchen startup, and launched the 'Food is Love" initiative, which provided meals to vulnerable communities in Singapore.

Italy struggles to revive lagging fibre rollout plan

By Elvira Pollina MILAN: A push by Italy's government for state-backed telecoms firms Open Fiber and FiberCop to accelerate work on a European Union-funded network plan has hit a snag as the companies are struggling to agree terms of a potential deal, three sources said. FiberCop and its smaller rival Open Fiber were entrusted with cabling more than 3 million buildings across Italy by the end of June 2026 under a 3.4 billion euro ($3.9 billion)programme aimed at rolling out ultra-fast broadband networks. Only around half of the targeted 3.4 million buildings have been upgraded, latest government data showed, with Open Fiber, which was awarded 2.2 million buildings, lagging behind FiberCop in its work. Italy has said it was considering handing KKR-backed FiberCop some of the work assigned to rival Open Fiber to speed up the rollout as it tries to meet the deadline agreed as part of a COVID-19 recovery plan. FiberCop had said it was ready to take over in full the work assigned to its rival. But government-sponsored talks between the two companies proved difficult, with FiberCop offering to take over the work at cost price by the end of this month, the sources say. Open Fiber is pushing back on such terms, arguing it would be hard to complete a potential spin-off of its areas swiftly and agreeing a fair valuation for them would take some months, the people said. Open Fiber's board of directors will discuss the situation at a board meeting on Tuesday but the chances of an agreement to hand FiberCop some of the areas are seen as low at this stage, the people said. Open Fiber and FiberCop declined to comment. Italy lags European peers in high-speed fixed-line internet coverage, with some 60% of households having access to ultrafast broadband against an EU average of 79%, according to EU data. A senior official from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's office said it is up to the companies to take the steps needed for an agreement and that time is running short. Open Fiber is 60% owned by state lender CDP with the remainder in the hands of Australian fund Macquarie. FiberCop was spun off last year from former state telco Telecom Italia (TIM) and sold to a KKR-led consortium, including Italy's economy ministry, under a deal worth up to 22 billion euros. Italy's conservative government is also keen to combine Open Fiber assets with those of FiberCop to create a wholesale-only telecommunications network provider under state control.
