Best value cabin bags for Easyjet, British Airways and Ryanair

Daily Mirror3 days ago

Whether you're a frequent flyer or weekend jetsetter, these cabin-friendly backpacks and suitcases are the must-have for your next adventure
Airlines are becoming stricter about the size of hand luggage travellers are allowed to take. With the holiday season fast approaching, watchful staff have been asking passengers to fit their bags in the luggage sizer.
Holidaymakers who do not double-check luggage restrictions risk paying extra, so it's best to check the rules and get the right bag for the trip. From budget airlines to expensive first-class flights, airlines offer two types of carry-on luggage.
A personal bag that must fit under the seat or a larger cabin bag to fit in the overhead locker, with Ryanair offering the least allowance for both - a free bag measuring 40 x 20 x 25cm and a small luggage measuring 55 x 40 x 20cm with a maximum weight of 10kg.
But don't assume long-haul airlines are more generous. British Airways passengers are allowed to bring a free bag measuring up to 40 x 30 x 15cm but with a weight limit of up to 23kg. To make life easier, we've compiled a list of backpacks and cabin bags so jetsetters can make the most of packing space.
Budget-friendly options:
Lossga Underseat Anti Theft Carry-on from £16.98
Dimensions: 40 x 20 x 25 cm
Backpacks are great for short weekend trips and this Lossga bag is crafted to meet the size requirements of Ryanair. It has two main compartments - one for clothes and shoes and another with multiple pockets for charger, toiletries and other small items.
At the back, there is a hidden back zippered pocket, perfect to store important documents, wallets, or gadgets securely against your body, deterring potential theft attempts. The thick padded shoulder straps also help distribute the weight evenly on the shoulders and back.
With more than 1,770 reviews on Amazon, shoppers also commented on the style with one saying: "It is not an informal backpack but rather a good-style one. Definitely would work for when I travel for business and not only leisure."
But another customer said: "The Bag gets dirty very easily and it does not clean well." It comes in a range of colours so those concerned about dirt marks should stick to darker shades.
Dimensions: 46 x 32 x 21cm
Decathlon's own accessories brand Kipsta has left shoppers impressed, with the viral kit bags as their go-to travel bag. Now they have upgraded the bag range and this 30L Backpack Hardcase is a stylish travel essential including a rigid compartment for shoes.
Made with weight and abrasion-resistant materials, there are six pockets to fit everything needed for a short-haul getaway. One shopper mentioned that it has "little back support" but others liked the multi-pocket design and the affordable price. The Kipsta may not work for travel on Ryanair as a free bag, but it will be fine on Easyjet.
Narwey Underseat Foldable Travel Duffel Bag - from £11.99
Dimensions: 40 x 19 x 25cm
This Amazon number one bestseller has caused a frenzy on TikTok and is dubbed the "viral Ryanair bag." With an impressive 14,460 reviews on the e-commerce platform, the easy-carrying holdall has scored a 4.3 out of five rating.
Known for its affordable price and perfect bag size, measuring 40 x 19 x 25cm, the bag fits everything travellers need for a short holiday and now Amazon has dropped a limited time deal with 38% discount, dropping the price from £15.99 to £9.99.
The thick nylon-like fabric left Express showbiz reporter Fran Winston surprised as she said: "The bag felt surprisingly robust for the price, it's made from a heavyweight fabric with sturdy-looking stitching and zips. The shoulder strap is secured with metal hardware but the top straps struck me as too short.
"I could just get it under my arms unpacked." Shoppers also suggested using packing cubes to fit more in the bag, but some said they struggle to fit their laptop in.
Xlodea Ryanair Cabin Bag - £18.99
Dimensions: 40 x20 x 25cm
Yet another popular Amazon bag loved by travellers, this backpack flight bag is approved by Ryanair with a compact 40 x 20 x 25cm measurement. Crafted from high-grade, water-resistant fabric, this backpack is built to withstand daily wear and tear, featuring reinforced zippers and safety features to keep valuable items safe.
It also has a built-in USB port, so there's no need to carry a power bank in hand to charge a phone or tablet. Shoppers also confirmed the bag " fits into the frame testers at airports" and they managed to "avoid getting charged at check-in gate".
Another shared: "This bag looks great and has a bit more padding on the shoulder pads for my daughter. There's a lot of room inside for some clothes and things like tablets and it will be perfect for a travelling on an airline and you can pull the side straps down to try and make it a bit thinner."
AVIO Atlas 45cm Underseat Cabin Bag - £27.99
Dimensions: 45 x 36 x 20cm
If shoppers have back and shoulder pain issues, getting a trolley bag is a better option but with airlines limiting the underseat bag sizes, we have found this AVIO Underseat Cabin Bag perfect for easyJet and Wizz Air customers without paying extra for luggage.
The hardshell bag, measuring at 45 x 36 x 20cm, is a lightweight suitcase offering smart interior compartments and compression straps for organised packing on shorter trips or light travel. The telescopic handle also comes in three heights, which many customers say it's been a "game-changer".
One five-star shopper shared: "For this price, I wasn't expecting great things, but I was totally wrong. The colour is beautiful, the zip is smooth and secure and the construction is great. It's really lightweight and the wheels are smooth and it's easy to move around." But some said the handle "flexes a lot and creaks in use".
Pricier options:
Fjällräven K nken Laptop 15" - £95
Dimensions: 38 x 26 x 17cm
For a stylish look, Swedish outdoor clothing brand Fjällräven offers an array of colours on their iconic backpack and now they have extended to more sizings including this one that fits a 15-inch laptop. The bag is a no-fuss backpack that has one main compartment with a padded sleeve for laptops or tablets and a zippered pocket at the front.
It's best to use a shoe bag and lingerie bags to keep things tidy and clean. Unlike the other backpacks, the material is thin yet, very durable and water-resistant, making it perfect for travel. There's also an open pocket on the side for fitting a water bottle.
The North Face Base Camp Voyager Roller 21" - £215 (£150 for members)
Dimensions: 35.6 x 23.8 x 54.6 cm
This bag is cabin-friendly for most airlines as a paid large carry-on, and it offers plenty of room for essentials and everyday belongings. Inspired by the popular duffel style, the rolling bag features a built-in telescopic handle and smooth-rolling wheels to ease travellers through the airport.
The soft case fabric is made from durable polyester tarpaulin, and the practical design provides room to pack more. There's a 15" sleeve on the inside to keep a laptop safe and the large internal compartment features a zipped divider to help keep dirty shoes or clothes away from clean ones.
While there's plenty of room for travel essentials, the compression straps help find space for a little more. Not to mention, there are extra pockets both inside and out for quick and easy access to passport, phone, wallet and keys. The North Face is offering early sale access to their XPLR PASS members and shoppers can sign up for free to unlock 30%.
Nere Bondi Cabin Suitcase - £99
Dimensions: 56 x 36 x 20cm
To inject a bit of fun to travel, Nere's vibrant gelato-inspired cabin range is surely one to bring a smile to shoppers. This is the brand's lightest hard suitcase, engineered with scratch-resistant PP hard shell for stress-free travel.
Customers will be eligible for a 10-year warranty when purchasing the Bondi case from the official website. Inside the case, shoppers can find a detachable mesh wash bag, self-repairing zippers and outside, a recessed TSA-approved combination lock.
The Bondi suitcase has amassed a 4.6-star rating as one shared: "Great little suitcase, perfect for a short trip. The pull handle feels a little flimsy but overall very happy with it. The expander works well and it's easy to keep everything organised inside. Happy with the purchase."

In the insane world of budget airlines better pack your canoe

You pay extra for anything other than the smallest item of baggage (Picture: Adobe) There is a joke currently doing the rounds, which you may well have already heard. I've had it told to me by several friends, and have also seen it on Facebook. Sign up to our daily newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! In the story, RyanAir boss Michael O'Leary notices a sign in a pub window reading 'Happy hour, Guinness £3 a pint'. O'Leary goes to the bar and orders his drink. The bartender asks if he wants a glass, O'Leary says he does and the barman replies 'That will be an extra £2.50'. The customer grudgingly pays up and is about to rest his pint on the counter, when he is told 'Ah, sir, if you're wanting to use the bar, that's an extra pound.' O'Leary angrily walks away from the bar and goes to sit at a table to be told 'Now, sir, if you want to take a seat that will cost an extra £3.50.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'This is outrageous. How can you expect to get away with this?' moans O'Leary, to which the barman replies 'Well, we are the only pub in town selling Guinness at £3 a pint'. OK, a fairly predictable joke, but it's funny because it's true. As I discovered when I checked in for my flight home from the Brighton Fringe. I travelled down by train, a much longer journey than by air but environmentally more responsible. And also with less restrictions on the amount of luggage I could carry, so I took two bags, both of which were fully packed. I flew back from Gatwick on Monday on EasyJet. I had booked a basic ticket which allowed me to carry on one small cabin bag, which had to fit under the seat in front. If I also wanted to take a larger cabin bag to go in the overhead locker, it was going to cost an extra £43.48, which was nearly as much as the original ticket. There's a lengthy price list for bulky items too. For example, it only costs fifty quid to take a canoe on the plane. That's utter madness. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad All 'budget airlines' such as RyanAir operate broadly similar policies. You pay extra for anything other than the smallest item of baggage, then there is an additional charge if you want to choose which seat you sit in. If you're daft enough, you can even order a meal voucher. Presumably the people purchasing this have never had a look through the EasyJet in-flight menu. Anyway, when I came to pack for my flight, there was no way all my stuff would fit in a bag under the seat. The suit I was wearing on stage all week was one I had bought at Primark several years previously for around fifty quid. I know, I shop at EasyJet and Primark. That's how well comedy pays. The suit served its purpose, as it looked OK from a distance and under stage lighting. Up close, you could easily tell it was an extremely cheap piece of tailoring. To take it back to Edinburgh was going to cost roughly the same as the value of the garment. I donated it to a charity shop. In what insane world is it cheaper to buy a suit than to take it home on a plane? Next time I fly, I'm packing everything into a canoe.

‘I tried Olivia Attwood's go-to deodorant—it was a lifesaver in the heatwave'

Shopping Writer Meghan has put Olivia Attwood's favourite sustainable deodorant to the test during the heatwave to see if it really keeps you smelling fresh on hot days Refillable deodorants have become increasingly popular in recent years, thanks to their sustainability, with brands like Wild pioneering the trend. But Wild is not the only brand offering shoppers the chance to pick their preferred deodorant case and scents while benefiting the planet—and Olivia Attwood's a fan. Olivia Attwood recently told fans that she's been loving sustainable brand Fussy and its refillable deodorant sticks —so I thought I'd put it to the test. I recently spent a weekend in Bath, which involved travelling by train and walking around the city during 25-degree heat, so I wanted to try a deodorant that promised to keep me smelling fresh without the need for a top-up while I'm on the go. And by the end of the weekend, I was very impressed. Much like the cult-favourite brand Wild, Fussy offers a reusable plastic casing and refills of your preferred scented deodorant. Olivia shared her recommendations to fans, sharing her favourite fragrance is Jasmine Bloom, a calming aroma combining floral jasmine and fresh green tea. Shoppers can try this refillable deodorant without breaking the bank, as it already has an affordable price tag. The refillable case and four refills of your chosen scent cost £32 directly from Fussy, or you can pick up a three-pack of the scent Peppermint, Eucalyptus & Sage on Amazon for £26. If you want to test out the deodorant without bulk buying, you can grab the case and one refill from Boots for £12. Of the three aromas I chose, the Coconut Milk scent carried me through my warm-weather weekend. This deodorant promises 24-hour protection and boasts all-natural ingredients for those who love a floral and fresh fragrance. It is also vegan and cruelty-free. I applied the deodorant at 8 a.m. before boarding my first train, after a four-and-a-half-hour journey with multiple changes. I spent the day walking all around Bath in high temperatures and very sunny weather, and then went for a fancy dinner without much of a chance to freshen up. By the time I made it home that night, after midnight, my friends were quick to note that I still smelled incredibly. The notes of the fragrance were still noticeable, and there was no trace of that sweaty smell that lingers after a long day. It was even pointed out that the aroma was still present the following morning. Without the chance to top up at any point throughout the day, the hot weather conditions, and a lot of walking and carrying heavy bags, I got through the day without losing the sweet and fresh scent Fussy offered. Needless to say, I'm impressed. This deodorant has claimed pride of place in my go-to products this summer - it promised twenty-four-hour protection and scent that won't get damp no matter what you're doing, and it lived up to that declaration. I can easily see why Olivia Attwood raves about the brand so much. And it's not just me and Liv, shoppers love this brand, as over 25000 reviews pour in. One 5-star rater beams: "I was very sceptical as I had tried a similar product. Thought I would give it a try. I am now a convert. There are no white marks on my clothes, and it works for me. Great product, and my daughter also now uses it." Another shares: "I'd seen lots of influencers recommending Fussy, and when I mentioned it to my son, he told me he'd already started using Fussy and was impressed! He gave me his discount code, and a few days later, I received mine. I chose the coconut fragrance based on his recommendation, and it's very nice! So far, I've been pleased, so I hope this continues when the warmer, sweaty weather eventually comes! For my next order, I've chosen a couple of different scents to try, so I hope they're as appealing as the coconut! Give them a go if you're yet to try! Oh, and yes, they're better for the environment and for your body, no harsh chemicals and recyclable." More love comes in this comment: "I started using Fussy around two months ago, and it's the best ever! It smells incredible, and there is no smell at all, unlike when I tried every other deodorant with all the chemicals, and trust me when I say I have tried every single one out there. I love Jasmine Bloom and Parma Violet; I'll never go back to anything else!"

Amazon shoppers rush to buy ‘stylish powerhouse' £140 MagSafe portable charger – now just £27

I'VE tested my fair share of portable chargers, and this one ticks all the right boxes. The Aobbow MagSafe Power Bank is on sale right now, down 81% from £139.99 to just £26.99, and it has everything you need. Aobbow MagSafe Power Bank, £139.99 £26.99 BUY FROM AMAZON Amazon's no stranger to solid tech deals, but this one feels like it's punching well above its price tag. For under thirty quid, you're getting a 10,000mAh portable charger that's slim, travel-friendly, and loaded with features. It supports wireless charging and comes with two built-in cables, one Type-C and one Lightning, as well as two additional ports. That's a rare combo, and a design you usually only see in premium models that cost two or three times as much. Now, let's be honest, £139.99 may have been stretching it a bit. But £26.99 is a real bargain for what you're getting here, and it's the kind of deal I wouldn't think twice about if you need a reliable power bank. I've tested plenty of chargers in search of the best power banks out there, and this one hits that sweet spot between practicality and price. It's compact, lightweight, and genuinely useful for everyday life, whether that's commuting, travelling, or just for a quick top-up on the go. And I'm not the only one who thinks so. The reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive, with a near-perfect 4.9-star average and hundreds of buyers singing its praises. I haven't had this one in my hand yet, but in my opinion, it has everything I'd want in a portable charger. It's designed with iPhones in mind, supporting wireless charging from the 12 series all the way up to the latest iPhone 16 models. It even sticks to MagSafe-compatible cases, so it stays put while it charges. If you're not clear on the mechanics of wireless charging, our tech experts have a straightforward guide on how iPhone wireless charging works. But the Aobbow is far from limited to Apple gear, it supports wireless charging for Android phones, tablets, and other USB-C devices. The built-in display shows you exactly how much charge is left, which is a small touch that makes a big difference. And when you make full use of it, you can juice up to five devices at once, so it's great for family trips or group travel. People who've bought it seem genuinely impressed. One reviewer called it a 'stylish powerhouse,' adding, 'It gave my iPhone 15 about 50% juice in just 30 minutes. 'The 10,000mAh capacity easily delivers 1.5–2 full charges depending on your model.' Another praised its convenience, saying, 'It snaps right onto my phone and charges fast with the 20W. 'The built-in cables are a great bonus, and it's compact enough to carry daily. Great design, fast charging, and no hassle.' If you're after a reliable, well-equipped power bank that won't cost a fortune, this one's worth grabbing while it's around.
