The young girl who was seriously injured in a stabbing incident on Parnell Square is now back attending school full time.
The six-year-old was critically hurt outside a Gaelscoil on Dublin's Parnell Square in November 2023. Two other children and a carer, who also sustained injuries, received treatment in hospital before being released.
On Thursday, an update on the girl's GoFundMe brought some good news from the girl's family, who confirmed that she is back in school. "For us who see our angel warrior every day, it is more difficult to notice advances and changes in her, but for those who see her less often, her progress is clear," the family shared.
"She has been attending school full-time. She is not attending mainstream school, just to clarify.
"The staff at this very special institution have gone above and beyond (in our eyes) to make our little girl feel part of the group, even after joining mid-school year. We are forever grateful to the love and dedication everyone has shown her.
Her family also said she has been "attempting different sounds" and that her happiness is "infectious". They continued: "We have had some challenging days; we all go through them, even if we wouldn't like a six-year-old to have to.
"As summer approaches, we are so happy to be able to spend it at home, hoping to spend days outdoors, smell the warm air, enjoy the sun and the sea." The young girl spent over a year undergoing intensive rehabilitation in Temple Street Children's Hospital after the incident.
Her family have been keeping everyone updated on her recovery journey through GoFundMe. The online fundraising campaign, titled Barróg do Chailín Beag (A Hug For A Little Girl), has managed to raise nearly €133,000 so far.

Couple killed in St Stephen's Day hit-and-run died of traumatic injuries, inquest hears

More info A married couple from Dublin who were killed in an alleged hit and run incident on St Stephen's Day last year died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries, an inquest has heard. Anthony "Anto" Hogg (39) and his wife, Georgina Hogg-Moore (38) from Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Blanchardstown Road North near the entrance to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre in Dublin at around 5.45pm on December 26, 2024. The couple, who had two children, had been out shopping at the post-Christmas sales and were on their way home when the collision occurred. Ms Hogg-Moore was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while her husband died a short time later at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he had been rushed by ambulance. A number of other pedestrians were also involved in the incident but no other injuries were reported. At a sitting of Dublin District Coroner's Court on Tuesday, a sister of Ms Hogg-Moore, Katie Moore, gave evidence of formally identifying her sister's body to gardaí at Dublin City Mortuary in Whitehall. A sister of Mr Hogg, Jennifer Hogg, also testified how she had identified her brother's body to gardaí at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. (Image: Colin Keegan/Collins) Detective Inspector Jim McDermott applied for the two inquests to be adjourned under Section 25 (2) of the Coroners Act on the basis that criminal proceedings have already been initiated in relation to the deaths of the couple. A neighbour of the deceased, John Halpin (45) of Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown, was charged at a sitting of Dublin District Court on December 30, 2024 with four offences including two counts of dangerous driving causing death. Mr Halpin was also accused of two counts of hit-and-run and failing to offer assistance at the scene of the incident. Garda Alan Murphy gave evidence that the accused made no reply when charged. Mr Halpin was subsequently granted bail at a sitting of Cloverhill District Court in early January subject to strict conditions. The coroner, Clare Keane, said the results of a postmortem showed that the couple had both died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries due to a road traffic incident. Offering her condolences to relatives of Mr Hogg and Ms Hogg-Moore, Dr Keane granted the application and adjourned the inquests to a date to be fixed after the conclusion of related criminal proceedings. British man remanded in custody over Dublin Airport 'air rage' incident

More info A British man remains remanded in custody tonight over an alleged air rage incident at Dublin Airport. Gavin Howard Risden, 48 and of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until next week over the incident in which a garda was allegedly assaulted on a plane that had just landed from America. The alleged assault happened after officers were called to a United Airlines flight that had just landed at Dublin Airport from Newark in New Jersey. Mr Risden appeared in court charged with five offences on Tuesday. He is charged with one count of assault causing harm. He faces a further two counts of the wilful obstruction of a peace officer under section 19 of the Public Order Act. He also faces two charges under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1973 section 2A(2) and section 2A(3) respectively. One is under section 2A(2), which is of engaging in behaviour that is likely to cause serious offence or annoyance to any person on board the aircraft, at any time after having been requested by a member of the crew of the aircraft to cease such behaviour. He faces another charge under section 2A(3), which is of engaging in behaviour of a threatening, abusive or insulting nature whether by word or gesture with intent to cause a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace might be occasioned. He was remanded in custody until next Tuesday. The Garda allegedly assaulted in the incident was taken to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Fire damages popular Dublin bar but they remain open despite damage

More info A popular Dublin bar and restaurant was the victim of an early morning fire over the bank holiday weekend - but has remained open despite the damage. Gardai and emergency services rushed to South William Street favourite Alfie's on Monday morning after the incident at around 7am. Dublin Fire Brigade posted an image of a firefighter working on the site of the fire, which appeared to have taken place outside the main bar. The DFB tweeted: "Firefighters from Tara Street responded to a fire up against a premises over the weekend. A hose reel was used to extinguish the fire and further damage was prevented." Alfie's management confirmed that the fire "only caused minor decorative damage" to the front of the bar. They said: "Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out and shown concern for Alfie's. "We just want to let you know that, thankfully, the small fire only caused minor decorative damage to the front facade. No one was hurt, and the restaurant is fully operational. "We are OPEN as usual from 12PM to 10PM, ready to serve great food and welcome you with open arms. We truly appreciate all your support!" A garda spokesman added: "Gardaí received report of an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred at approximately 7am on Monday, 2nd of June 2025 on South William Street, Dublin 2.
