Team golf on PGA Tour means these 2 formats are in play at Zurich Classic of New Orleans
It's not quite the Ryder Cup but it is team golf and that means fourballs and foursomes this week at the 2025 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The field is 160 players in 80 two-man teams. It's four days and 72 holes, like individual events on the PGA Tour but the uniqueness is a nice change of pace during the season.
What is the Zurich Classic of New Orleans tournament history?
The tournament dates to 1938. It has been played at TPC Louisiana since 2005. It became a team event in 2017.
Harry Cooper won the first event. Other individual winners over the years include Byron Nelson, Billy Casper, Gary Players, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros and Ben Crenshaw.
Billy Horschel is the only golfer to win it when it was an individual stroke-play event (2013) and as a member of a team (2018). Cameron Smith, now of LIV Golf, is the only one to be on two different winning teams (2017 and 2021).
What is the format for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans?
The first round will have all the two-man teams playing fourballs, also known as best ball. For Friday's second round, the duos will flip to foursomes, also known as alternate shot.
Friday night, there will be a cut to the low 33 teams plus ties. The advancing teams will play fourballs on Saturday and then Sunday's final round will be foursomes once again.
What are the scoring records for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans?
The foursomes low round is 63, posted in 2023 by Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor and also by Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. In 2024, Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer matched it with a 63 of their own.
The fourballs low score of 59 was carded by the Patrick Cantlay-Xander Schauffele duo in 2022.
What is the prize money payouts for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans?
The total purse is $9,200,000. Each member of the winning team will pocket $1,329,400 for his efforts.

Check it out: Justin Herbert highlights from celebrity golf event
Check it out: Justin Herbert highlights from celebrity golf event Justin Herbert signing a baby is an all time GOATed moment 🤣 @amfamchamp — ESPN Madison (@ESPNMadison) June 7, 2025 While things are on the slower side for quarterback Justin Herbert at this point of time, he's using his spare time to do things that he enjoys doing, including golfing. This past weekend, Herbert partook in the AmFam Championship, a PGA Tour event, played at TPC Wisconsin. He paired up with NFL legend Charles Woodson, as the two took on soccer legend Mia Hamm and two-time U.S. Open champion and event host Andy North. The event was to raise money for a children's hospital. Ultimately, Herbert and Woodson came up short against Hamm and North. But the event brought plenty of highlights of the Chargers signal-caller, including a clip of him signing the back of a baby's Chargers shirt. Just SOME of our favorite shots from Saturday's @amfamchamp Celebrity Foursome! Can we run it back again next weekend? #AmFamChamp — ESPN Madison (@ESPNMadison) June 8, 2025 Thanks @MiaHamm, @CharlesWoodson, Justin Herbert and host Andy North for a fun day! Team North-Hamm won the #AmFamChamp Celebrity Foursome and will have a $25,000 donation made in their names from the @StrickerFNDN to the American Family Children's Hospital. — AmFam Championship (@amfamchamp) June 8, 2025

Eagles Predicted to Have Multiple Sleeper NFL MVP Candidates
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Coming off a Super Bowl-winning season, the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to be right back in championship contention. As a team, the Eagles are recognized as one of the strongest across the board. But do they have an individual on the roster who is a potential MVP candidate for next year? Recently, Bleacher Report laid out a handful of potential MVP candidates who have crept into "sleeper" territory, based on the odds being laid out by sportsbooks early on in the offseason. With five players listed, the Eagles have two on the board. To no surprise, the candidates are the quarterback Jalen Hurts and the running back Saquon Barkley, who happens to be the only non-passer on the list. "Jalen Hurts' fantastic supporting cast probably cost him MVP consideration in 2024, and that's a shame because the uniquely talented star was the NFL's fifth-highest-rated passer while producing a combined 32 touchdowns. The problem is only 18 of those came through the air, and the tush push doesn't win over too many voters," BR's Brad Gagnon writes. Jalen Hurts (1) of the Philadelphia Eagles throws a pass during Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome on February 09, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22 MoreHurts is no stranger to the MVP conversation. During the 2022 season, when the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl for the first time with Hurts under center, the quarterback spent many weeks favored to take the award home. Unfortunately, a late-season injury caused him to miss some time, and he lost out. The narrative surrounding Hurts isn't always super positive. Between the tush-push generating so much controversy and the star power surrounding Hurts offering him a ton of help, the Eagles' strong roster-building tends to play against Hurts, causing him to carry the "system QB" label often. Speaking of star power that helped push Hurts and the Eagles forward last season, Saquon Barkley could be in the running for MVP for the second season in a row. "If Barkley can take it another step and actually take down Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing-yardage record this year, the 28-year-old could become the first MVP at his position since Adrian Peterson in 2012," Gagnon wrote. It's hard to argue the idea that MVP is for quarterbacks to lose. Over the past 12 seasons, a quarterback has taken home the award. To no surprise, quarterbacks are currently favored to make it 13 in a row. Barkley shouldn't be doubted, though. His first season in the midnight green was remarkable. In 16 games, he rushed for over 2,000 yards, averaging a career-high 5.8 yards per carry. Barkley had 15 total touchdowns in the regular season and added five more in the playoffs. The Eagles always had a knack for building a strong offensive line, resulting in giving even an average running back a chance to shine more often than not. Once a proven star running back like Barkley got behind the line, records were broken. It would have to take a major step back in order for Barkley not to be on MVP watch throughout his second season in Philadelphia.
