Pakistan announces four-day holiday on Eid Al-Adha
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced a four-day holiday on Eid Al-Adha starting from June 6, the Cabinet Division said on Monday.
Eid Al-Adha is one of the two most important festivals of the Islamic calendar. The other, Eid Al-Fitr, occurs at the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.
Muslims mark the Eid Al-Adha holiday by slaughtering animals such as sheep and goats, and the meat is shared among family and friends and donated to the poor.
'The prime minister has been pleased to declare 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th June, 2025, (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday) as public holidays on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha,' the Cabinet Division said.
Last week, Pakistan's moon sighting committee announced that the crescent marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah was not sighted due to unclear skies and the Eid Al-Adha festival would commence from June 7.
Eid Al-Adha is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him) to sacrifice his son on God's command.
Dhul Hijjah is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar, a sacred period during which the Hajj pilgrimage takes place. This year, the annual Hajj pilgrimage will commence on June 4.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's security forces killed 14 militants this week in the country's volatile northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military's media wing said on Wednesday, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to completely eradicate militancy from the country. The operation comes amid a noticeable uptick in militant attacks in Pakistan, particularly in the border regions near Afghanistan. 'On 2-3 June 2025, an intelligence-based operation was conducted by the security forces in general area Datta Khel, North Waziristan District, on reported presence of Khawarij belonging to Indian proxy, Fitna Al-Khawarij,' the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. 'During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the Indian-sponsored Khawarij location, and after an intense exchange of fire, fourteen Indian-sponsored Khawarij were sent to hell,' it added. The ISPR said 'sanitization operations' were ongoing to clear the area of any remaining militants, reaffirming the military's commitment to 'wipe out the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country.' Prime Minister Sharif also praised the security forces for their 'professional excellence' in the North Waziristan operation, saying such efforts were critical to eliminating the threat posed by what he called enemies of humanity. 'We will crush the nefarious designs of these terrorists,' Sharif said in a statement issued by his office. 'With the professional capability of our security forces, we will uproot the monster of terrorism once and for all.' He said the government and the armed forces were fully committed to ensuring the complete elimination of militant violence from Pakistan.

The hospital includes inpatient wards with a capacity of 50 beds, a fully equipped pharmacy with a medicine storage unit, a radiology unit, a medical laboratory, and specialized clinics. It also features a surgical operating room with a recovery and sterilization wing, intensive care and observation units, and an emergency department. The mobile field hospital's inauguration reflects the vital role of the Ministry of Defense in serving the pilgrims and boosting the readiness of the health infrastructure in the holy sites, helping pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and tranquility.
