Soccer-Mbappe skips training again, set to miss Pachuca game

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida (Reuters) -Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe skipped Saturday's collective training session and is set to miss the 15-times European champions' Group H game against Pachuca at the Club World Cup, the club said.
Mbappe, who was admitted to a Miami area hospital earlier this week with acute gastroenteritis, had stayed at the team hotel and would not be travelling to Charlotte, North Carolina, for Sunday's match, a Real spokesperson said.

Tennis-Medvedev outlasts Zverev to reach Halle final
(Reuters) -Daniil Medvedev reached his first ATP Tour final for 15 months as he outlasted Germany's world number three Alexander Zverev 7-6(3) 6-7(1) 6-4 at the Halle Open on Saturday. The Russian former world number one could have spared himself some overtime had he not let three match points slip in the second set, but he eventually got the job done in just under three hours. "I am happy with my level, I played great," Medvedev said. "I would have loved to finish on the match points (in the second set). The first one I went for it and missed it. The second one I went a bit slower to wait for a mistake and he made a great point. I am happy to win in the end." Medvedev, who now has a 13-7 career record against Zverev, will play either Alexander Bublik or Karen Khachanov in Sunday's final where he will seek his 21st Tour-level title. He needed treatment for a nosebleed at 4-4 in an intense first set but was gifted the first-set tiebreaker as Zverev offered up a clutch of unforced errors. Zverev was broken at the start of the second set but clawed his way back and then saved three match points when serving at 5-6 before holding serve in an extended 12th game to set up a tiebreak in which he played some precise tennis. Medvedev quickly regrouped though and was the dominant player in the decider. Whatever the outcome of the final, he will return to the world's top 10 on Monday. Taofifenua burrowed over the try-line after England had led 24-12 with five minutes remaining but could not keep the visitors at bay in a game featuring four tries and a red card for each side. The match served as a warm-up for England's tour of Argentina and the United States, while France are preparing for three tests in New Zealand next month. France scored two early tries as hooker Gaetan Barlot crossed in the corner after breaking away from a driving maul, and lock Hugo Auradou burst into the England 22 after the visitors turned the ball over at the breakdown. England grew into the game, however, and after incessant pressure in the French 22, number eight Tom Willis scored in the corner before lock Alex Coles took a pop-pass from centre Seb Atkinson to cross the line. Rugby-Former Scotland captain McLauchlan dies at 83
(Reuters) -Former Scotland and British and Irish Lions prop Ian McLauchlan has died at the age of 83, Scottish Rugby said on Saturday. Known as "Mighty Mouse" because he was a lot smaller than most loosehead props, Mclauchlan won 43 Scotland caps, captained his country 19 times and helped the Lions to series victories over New Zealand and South Africa. He led Scotland in a test against England in 1973 two weeks after breaking his leg during a match against Ireland. "He was so tough, almost indestructible. What a fantastic career he had for Scotland, and the Lions; it's very, very sad," said Andy Irvine, a former Scottish Rugby President and McLauchlan's teammate for Scotland and the Lions.
