Man stabbed, punched, robbed of gold chain inside Bronx subway station
Alberto Abreu Contreras, 39, was on his way home early Monday morning from his job as a valet, riding the No. 4 train heading north around 2:19 a.m. when he was approached by three men — all wearing black — who ordered him to hand over his chain.
When he didn't cooperate, they grabbed the jewelry and pulled the victim onto the train platform at the E.167th St. station in Highbridge.
'If you don't give me your stuff I'm going to stab you,' one of the men threatened, police sources told the Daily News.
The crooks then furiously attacked Contreras, punching him in the face and stabbing him in the abdomen and torso before taking off with the wounded victim's 14 karat Jesus medallion chain, EarPods, Samsung galaxy A23 phone and IDs.
'I was sitting on the train and a guy grabbed me by my chain through my hoodie,' Contreras told The News about the terrifying attack. 'He dragged me out onto the platform, I held onto the guy for dear life. There was two more guys that came to help him. They said 'let him go'. He was saying 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry' in Spanish and he ran down the escalator.'
Contreras was unconscious following the beatdown and said he woke up in a hospital.
He was transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he was initially in critical condition. After surgery, however, he's now expected to recover.
'I still feel the pain,' Contreras told The News. 'They put tubes in my stomach to see if there was internal bleeding. 'It is what it is, this goes with the neighborhood, this can happen to anyone.'
His three attackers, who are all believed to be in their 20s, remain on the loose.

Illegal migrant who killed Rachel Morin sat emotionless as family members remembered mom at sentencing
The Salvadorian illegal migrant who viciously raped and killed Rachel Morin was emotionless as her grieving children remembered their 'kind' and 'determined' mom at his sentencing Monday — where he was given life without the possibility of parole. Harford County Circuit Court Judge Yolanda Curtin threw the book at Victor Martinez-Hernandez, 24, after an hours-long hearing Monday where Morin's family members, including four of her five children, delivered emotional victim impact statements. Morin's eldest daughter described her mom, who has the 'best laugh,' as 'kind, strong, honest, determined and funny,' in a heartbreaking written statement she asked the prosecutor to read to the court, WBAL-TV reported. 'I had to relive the worst two days of my life in order to write this,' the statement from the 20-year-old read. Her three youngest children delivered their statements via audio recordings. 'She was a good mom,' her son could be heard saying in one recording. 'Every time I see a picture of her I think about the life I had with her and my four sisters. I miss her.' Stray bullet kills N.Y. man in Puerto Rico for Bad Bunny concert
Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A 25-year-old New York man shot and killed in Puerto Rico while attending a Bad Bunny concert. Queens resident Kevin Mares was fatally shot Sunday night at a San Juan nightclub in the La Perla neighborhood of the commonwealth U.S. island's capital city a little after 4 a.m. local time, according to police. Officials said the East Elmhurst man was an innocent bystander when gunfire erupted. A 46-year-old local man and his sister, 45, were both injured but survived. The incident took place at the nightclub Refugio de Hombres Maltratados in the La Perla neighborhood, an area known for crime in the coastal town. Investigators said an argument broke out and a person pulled out a gun and started shooting. "They were standing in the wrong place at the wrong time," Claudia Saenz, a family friend, told the Daily News. Meanwhile, no arrests have been made and no suspects named. Local police, according to Det. Arnaldo Ruiz, were working with "very little" information about the incident. In a statement posted to social media, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he was heartbroken that his life was "tragically ripped away due to gun violence in Puerto Rico." "Condolences and prayers are with all of Kevin's loved ones grieving this unimaginable loss," stated the embattled Democrat-turned-Independent mayor currently up for re-election in a hotly contested mayoral race. According to witnesses in recorded reports, Mares attended Saturday night's Bad Bunny concert in San Juan with his girlfriend and friends. According to Mare's mother, he was planning to propose marriage in the fall to his girlfriend of seven years. The family, meanwhile, is working with Puerto Rican authorities to return Mare's remains part of an active investigation in America's island territory, which is reportedly estimated to cost the grieving family at least $23,000 with a GoFundMe page setup to aid in the process.
