Owen Farrell to air views on dad Andy and the Lions on Sky for tour opener
Owen Farrell will run the rule over the first match for the British & Irish Lions, against Argentina next week, after joining Sky Sports' punditry team. FThe 33-year-old will be at the Aviva Stadium next Friday to give his views on how the side, coached by his dad, Andy, fares.
Farrell Jr has been part of the three previous tours, having made his bow against Australia in 2013, but was omitted from the 38-man squad last month after a torrid first season with Racing 92. Finn Russell, Fin Smith and Marcus Smith were preferred as the fly-halves. His insight into how the Lions fare against the Pumas will be intriguing.
When announcing his squad, Farrell Sr left the door open for his son – who has made six Lions Test appearances – to be called upon at a later stage but he was not among the additional players recruited for the training camp in Portugal this week.
Instead, he will be pitchside in Dublin as part of a Sky Sports lineup for the tour that includes Sam Warburton, Dan Biggar, Ronan O'Gara, Will Greenwood, Kyle Sinckler, John Barclay, Conor Murray and Nolli Waterman as well as the former Lions coaches Warren Gatland and Ian McGeechan.
Farrell is not scheduled to be in Australia, ensuring he will be available for selection for the tour in a playing capacity. He has not featured for Racing since suffering a head injury during their Challenge Cup semi-final loss to Lyon last month. While still under contract at Racing, Farrell has informed the Top 14 club of his desire to leave early and return to the Premiership. Saracens are keen to re-sign the former England captain, but will need to agree personal terms as well as a compensation package with Racing.

The former England head coach Eddie Jones will be working on the tour for TalkSport, the station announced last month. Jones has had two spells in charge of the Wallabies, either side of his six-and-a-half year stint leading England.

Defending US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau was blasted for making a 'stupid mistake' after he was involved in a bizarre rules controversy at Oakmont. The controversy began when the 31-year-old's second shot on the 621-yard fourth hole landed among a group of spectators after he blocked his drive into a bunker, and he was forced to lay up his second shot. After the ball landed on a spectator walkway, DeChambeau was entitled to free relief, allowing him to drop his ball to the nearest point on the fairway where there was no interference. However, caddie Gregory Bodine picked up the ball before the world No 10 could determine his new marker, prompting confusion. As the ball had already been picked up, the LIV Golf star could not return it back to the original spot after realising his relief would be further back from the crossing. DeChambeau had a long conversation with an official before they decided where could he drop the ball. He then placed the ball on the floor, rather than dropping it from knee height as the rules require. The unusual rule incident sparked confusion and criticism towards DeChambeau. 'However you look at it, that was a fairly stupid mistake for a very intelligent man,' said Sky Sports commentator Nick Dougherty. Andrew Coltart, former European Tour champion, said: 'I'm just astounded that he placed it, it's just not a natural thing to do. 'Very bizarre scenes there for Bryson DeChambeau, but he does that to us, doesn't he? He likes to keep us guessing!' Rich Beem, former PGA champion and Sky Sports commentator, was astonished at the mistake. He said: 'Just going through that whole sequence again, he had his caddie pick up his golf ball without actually marking the position it was at. 'But if you're going to take relief why would he take it so close to where it was? Why not take it an extra five yards back?' Owen Farrell agrees Saracens homecoming to open door to England recall - after being overlooked for British & Irish Lions squad
Owen Farrell will return home immediately after Saracens agreed a transfer fee with Racing 92. The Parisian club have agreed to release Farrell from his contract for a fee of €200,000 (£170,000), paving the way for one of rugby's biggest homecoming stories. Farrell still owns his home near the Saracens training ground and will begin the process imminently, agreeing a five-year deal as a player coach. His return could open the door to him representing England again, although previously he previously ruled himself out of international selection. Saracens coach Mark McCall has made no secret of his ambitions to bring back Farrell, with a long-term injury to Alex Lozowski freeing up an injury-dispensation allowance within the salary cap. 'We think we're a bit vulnerable at 10, to be honest,' said McCall. 'We've got quite a lot of 12s and 13s, but we're vulnerable at 10 because Alex Goode's retired and he's played 10 a lot for us. We've got Fergus [Burke], we've got Louie and then we've got no one else.' Farrell has agreed a five-year deal as a player coach while the move to lead to an England recall 'When Alex Lozowski gets an injury, then you're entitled to use an injury dispensation, given the length of the injury, and bring a new player to the club from outside your squad, but he can only play in the same position as the person who's been injured.
