Egypt banks to close for Coptic Easter and Sham El Nessim

The Central Bank of Egypt has mandated a two-day suspension of operations for all banks in the country on Sunday, April 20th, and Monday, April 21st, 2025, in observance of Coptic Orthodox Easter and Sham El Nessim.
According to a statement issued by the bank, services will resume on the morning of Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025.

CBE: Foreign Exchange Reserves Rise to $48.5 Billion

Taarek Refaat The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that net international reserves rose to $48.526 billion by the end of May, compared to $48.144 billion by the end of April, an increase of $382 million. Earlier today, the bank announced that remittances from Egyptians working abroad recorded an unprecedented historic leap during the period July-March 2024/25, rising by 82.7% year-on-year to approximately $26.4 billion (compared to approximately $14.4 billion). The period January-March 2024/25 also witnessed an 86.6% year-on-year increase, reaching approximately $9.4 billion (compared to approximately $5.0 billion). Egyptian Remittances Reach $26.4 B, 82.7 Percent Surge in FY2024/2025

Egyptian workers abroad sent home record-breaking remittances between July and March of the fiscal year 2024/2025, according to a statement from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). The statement revealed that remittances soared by 82.7 percent year-on-year, reaching approximately $26.4 billion, compared to around $14.4 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year. The third quarter saw particularly strong growth. From January to March 2025, remittances jumped by 86.6 percent year-on-year, totaling around $9.4 billion, up from about $5 billion during the same quarter last year. On a monthly basis, the upward trend remained sharp. In March 2025, remittances climbed by 63.7 percent year-on-year to reach approximately $3.4 billion, compared to $2.1 billion in March 2024. This remarkable surge underscores the increasing financial role of Egyptians working abroad and signals growing confidence in the country's banking sector amid broader economic reforms.

Taarek Refaat The dollar exchange rate against the Egyptian pound witnessed new changes in trading on Sunday, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. The exchange rate continued to fluctuate between rises and falls in recent days, particularly after the CBE's recent decision to cut interest rates for the second time in a row, bringing the rate down by 3.25% since April 17. The dollar exchange rate declined in several banks on the first day after the weekend of Friday and Saturday. At the central bank, the dollar recorded approximately EGP 49.63 to buy and 49.76 to sell.
