‘Delivery man-poet': Chinese man with no higher education appointed to head academic body

A food courier in China who has written thousands of poems and published several books of poetry has been appointed as the head of an non-governmental organisation promoting reading in public.
In early June, Wang Jibing, 55, was named vice director of the Xuzhou All People Reading Enhancement Association, a charitable organisation affiliated with Xuzhou municipal civil affairs bureau in eastern Jiangsu province, the news outlet The Paper reported.
Wang has been dubbed the 'food courier poet' thanks to his dedication to literature.

He uses his spare time and the intervals when he is waiting for delivery orders to write poems on scraps of paper or even on his palms.
So far, Wang has written 6,000 poems and published four books of poetry.
Wang dropped out of secondary school because of his impoverished family background.
He then worked as a construction worker, a food stall owner and a waste collector before becoming a food courier in 2019.
In 2022, a short poem he wrote, titled A Person in a Rush, was shared on social media by the famous poet Chen Zhaohua and it resonated with many internet users in China.

Newlywed doctors prescribe themselves a cosy Kowloon Tong haven

For medical doctors Jade Li and Stanton Ho, home needed to be more than just a place to sleep – it had to be a space that supported recovery and connection. And it had to be calm. Advertisement Their newly renovated 900 sq ft flat in Kowloon Tong is exactly that. Designed by interior designer Joyce Taufer as a quiet, minimalist retreat, the apartment reflects their need for order and comfort after long, often unpredictable workdays. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom flat is also a return to Ho's roots – he grew up in the same building, in a unit one floor below. The couple chose to stay close to family while beginning a new chapter as newlyweds, with their cat, Tigger, and dog, Milo. 'It was a difficult place to start with,' says Li, 'because the previous owner spent a fortune renovating. But it just wasn't what we liked.' Entrance. Photo: John Sumang Li, a long-time follower of Taufer's work on Instagram, says she decided to approach the designer despite their modest budget. Renovation began in March 2024, a month after Li and Ho bought the flat, and the couple moved in just before their wedding last October.
