Auburn baseball catcher Cale Stricklin announces plans to enter transfer portal The sophomore played in 20 games over the last two seasons at Auburn. A reserve catcher is moving on after spending two seasons in an Auburn uniform. Cale Stricklin, a sophomore from Watkinsville, Georgia, is departing Auburn after signing with the program ahead of the 2024 season. He announced Monday on social media that he is entering the transfer portal after playing two seasons in the orange and blue. Stricklin played in 20 games over the last two seasons, including six games during the 2025 season. In that span, he built a career average of .243 with five extra-base hits and eight RBI. He played in two games against Holy Cross in February, three games in March, and made his last appearance April 5 against Alabama. Last season, he recorded four at-bats with zero hits and a walk. Playing time became tough for Stricklin to grab at Auburn. Freshman Chase Fralick won the starting catcher role and became a key piece to the Auburn lineup by hitting .335 with four home runs and 41 RBI. Fralick's occupying of the catcher role pushed Ike Irish out of his primary position of catcher and into the outfield. Fralick is set to return, and Auburn has signed a catcher to its 2025 class, Taylor Belza of Grafton, Ohio. Lucas Steele, who played outfield and served as a designated hitter for the Tigers in 2025, is also a catcher and could be used should an emergency arise. To fill needs left behind by several players at key positions, Auburn has added five players from the transfer portal since the final out of the 2025 season, including Texas State infielder Ryne Farber and Western Kentucky pitcher Drew Whalen. Nebraska baseball knocks off Holy Cross 4-1 to advance to the second elimination game The Huskers (33-28) entered do-or-die mode on Saturday morning against Holy Cross (31-27) in the elimination round of the Chapel Hill Regional. Nebraska survived the day, taking down the Crusaders 4-1 to advance to Sunday. Holy Cross initially took the lead in the fifth inning following a scoreless opening stretch by both teams. Nebraska wasted no time responding, scoring two runs on its third batter in the bottom of the fifth. Cayden Brumbaugh slammed a two-run home run in the fifth to give the Huskers the lead and finished the day going 2-for-4 at the plate. Nebraska then started the bottom of the seventh by adding another home run, this one a solo shot from Hogan Helligso. Helligso then chipped in an RBI single in the eighth, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs on the day. Devin Nunez led the Huskers at the plate, going a career-best 4-for-4 with two doubles. Max Buettenback and Rhett Stokes each earned one hit apiece. Ty Horn (4-4) started at the mound for Nebraska and allowed one run across 7.1 innings. Horn struck out six batters on the day and surrendered five hits and one walk. Luke Broderick collected his 13th save of the season after tossing the final 1.2 innings, tying for third-most in a season by a Nebraska reliever. He is also the first Husker with 13 saves in a season since Colby Gomes in 2019. Broderick shut out Holy Cross in his stretch, allowing only one walk. (AP) — Cayden Brumbaugh and Hogan Helligso each had a home run and two RBIs, Ty Horn struck out six in 7 1/3 innings and Nebraska beat Holy Cross 4-1 on Saturday to remain in the Chapel Hill Regional. Nebraska (33-28) will play in another must-win game on Sunday against the loser of the North Carolina-Oklahoma game. Holy Cross (31-27), in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017 and second since 1978, had its season come to an end. Brumbaugh's two-run blast deep to left field gave Nebraska a 2-1 lead in the fifth after Holy Cross DH Sean Scanlon homered in the top of the inning. Helligso, batting in the No. 9 spot, hit his third home run of the season in the seventh. Helligso added an insurance run on an RBI single in the eighth. Horn (4-4) allowed one earned run and five hits. Luke Broderick took over with one out in the eighth and got a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning.
