The 43-year-old was indicating to turn right when Dale Groves hurtled towards him without stopping.
Footage has been released at the request of the family to remind motorists that "careless driving ruins lives".
It shows Groves smash into the side of Gareth's Renault Clio in a dangerous bid to overtake.
Gareth's partner Sharon Griffiths was joined by their two sons at the side of the road as they were told "the worst
news
imaginable" that he had tragically passed away.

She told Cardiff Crown Court how she and her sons "collapsed into each other in shock".
Groves was spared jail and instead handed a ten month sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to carry out 250 hours unpaid work and disqualified from driving for five years after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving.
The
horror
unfolded on April 13, 2023, as Groves attempted to overtake Gareth, who was following a large

Groves called 999 on three occasions in an attempt to get help following the crash but was told there could be a wait of 'over three hours'.
A fire engine was the first at the scene, with paramedics arriving from 6.41am.
In a victim impact statement, Sharon told how she found out about the accident when one of Gareth's colleagues contacted her.
She said she was "shocked by the sheer volume of emergency vehicles" when she arrived.

Sharon added: "Gareth was very distressed and was clearly in a lot of pain. I called out to him to let him know I was there to reassure and comfort him and get him to calm down so the firefighter could help him, but he said: 'I can't babe, I'm sorry'.
"He became quiet and lost consciousness. The firefighters performed CPR on him and started shouting where the ambulance was."
The mum said paramedics were "frantically" working on Gareth when her two sons arrived at the scene.
She continued: "I was approached by two people, a doctor and a police officer who told us the worst news imaginable. There was nothing else that could be done and Gareth had passed away.

"We collapsed into each other in shock, trying to keep each other standing up.
"Gareth was put into the back of an ambulance and we were allowed to spend time with him before he was transported to the hospital mortuary.
"A feeling of numbness and a false sense of reality followed in the weeks. We had to wait for the post mortem and felt helpless, we had no sense of purpose.
"There was no way to move forward as if everything had stopped."

Sharon said the trial was "heartbreaking" after coming face to face with Groves.
She added: "The driver used the phrase 'massive mistake'. His massive mistake has destroyed our family. Our lives are unrecognisable to what they were. Gareth's life was taken and ours were ruined."

Sex assault case against Armagh All-Ireland winner to be elevated to Crown Court

Aidan Nugent faces two charges of sexual assault and two of causing or inciting a person to engage in a sexual activity Armagh All-Ireland winner Aidan Nugent who is on bail accused of sexual assault will have his case elevated to the Crown Court next month, a judge has ordered. During a brief update in the case against the 30-year-old defendant, a prosecuting lawyer told Armagh Magistrates Court, sitting in Newry today, that 'papers should be ready' to fix a date for the Preliminary Enquiry (PE) — the legal step necessary to return a criminal case to the Crown Court. The legal representative suggested to District Judge Anne Marshall the PE could be scheduled to be heard on July 22, but that the matter should be reviewed beforehand 'to make sure everything is ready.' Nugent, from the Cullyhanna Road in Newtownhamilton, faces two charges of sexual assault and two of causing or inciting a person to engage in a sexual activity, namely contact with his genitals, on November 17, last year. When the All-Ireland winner first appeared in court last month, the PPS revealed a further four charges will be added to the indictment when the case is sent for trial. Photo: Piaras Ó Mídheach/Sportsfile It's understood that it is the Crown's case that the alleged offences were committed in America when the Armagh GAA team travelled to Miami, Florida to celebrate the team's All-Ireland win after claiming the title for the first time in 22 years by beating Galway at Croke Park in July. Nugent's defence team has emphasised that during formal police interviews, he claimed that 'any sexual activity was consensual' and that when he was charged with the offences, Nugent replied that 'I deny the allegations — it was consensual.' The All-Ireland winner had been excused from attending court on Tuesday. Adjourning the case to July 8 for review, Judge Marshall excused the defendant from having to attend on that date as well, but ordered that he will have to appear for the PE on July 22. The bike could be seen zooming from a side street, across an island of traffic lights and onto a main road as shocked onlookers watched on. Dramatic video shows the officer clinging on for dear life as he was dragged across a main road. Ryall then lost control of the motorcycle as he enters a slip road, with a Gwent Police car in hot pursuit. Footage then shows the two men and the bike crashing to the ground on a grass verge in chaotic scenes. At this point, the police vehicle crosses the main road to catch up with him and assist in the arrest. Gwent Police said Ryall had been spotted riding dangerously and pulling wheelies when Sgt Brookes got out of a marked police car and asked the biker to pull over. Shocking moment car flies through air and smashes into newly repaired roof of veteran's hall "The bike ended up on a grass verge opposite the junction before Sgt Brookes arrested the rider." Ryall, of Blackwood, Caerphilly, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance at Newport Magistrates Court. He was handed a suspended sentence but banned from driving for 15 months. Advertisement His green Kawasaki was seized and crushed. Speaking after the sentence, Sgt Brookes said: "Both the rider and I were extremely fortunate that the road wasn't busier at the time. 'The defendant shouldn't have been on the road in the first place, but his reckless and thoughtless riding by pulling wheelies on a main road in a town centre put himself, officers, motorists and pedestrians at risk. 'Our neighbourhood team across Caerphilly north will not tolerate the illegal and dangerous use of off-road vehicles and continue to plan proactive operations to keep roads and rural areas safe and remove these vehicles from our streets."
