Faith and Family Filmmakers Association Announces Comprehensive Filmmaking Workshops at Online Bootcamp

The intensive one-day Filmmakers Bootcamp features nine specialized workshops covering acting, producing, and screenwriting, designed specifically for Christian filmmakers seeking to elevate their craft and expand their professional networks.
Faith and Family Filmmakers Association, a leading facilitator of training, networking and growth in the faith-based and faith-friendly film space, is proud to announce its upcoming Faith and Family Filmmakers Bootcamp on July 27, 2025. This comprehensive one-day virtual event offers Christian filmmakers an intensive learning experience through specialized filmmaking workshops, networking opportunities, and community building within the faith-based entertainment industry.
The entertainment industry continues to evolve rapidly, with independent filmmakers facing increasing challenges in developing, producing, and distributing quality content. Faith and Family Filmmakers Association offers online education and networking opportunities dedicated to compelling entertainment that aligns with traditional values of the filmmakers.
The Faith and Family Filmmakers Bootcamp addresses this need by providing a concentrated day of professional development designed specifically for actors, screenwriters, and producers in the faith-based film community. Attendees will elevate their craft through training with industry professionals and make new connections in a community with like-minded filmmakers through organized networking sessions.
The bootcamp features nine specialized filmmaking workshops divided into three essential tracks for actors, producers, and screenwriters.
Each 90-minute workshop features industry professionals, and includes dedicated Q&A time, ensuring participants receive practical training they can immediately apply to advance their careers. Attendees will have access to all nine workshop videos after the event, allowing for continued learning and reference.
Beyond the educational components, the bootcamp emphasizes the relationship-driven nature of the film industry through organized networking sessions. Christian filmmakers will connect with professionals from across the industry and across the country, building relationships that are essential for career growth in entertainment.
"This industry is all about relationships," states Geoffrey Whitt, director of the Faith and Family Filmmakers Association. 'Many independent filmmakers feel isolated and struggle to find opportunities for professional development and like-minded professionals to connect with. Some may only get to travel to an in-person conference once a year, if at all'.
The Faith and Family Filmmakers Bootcamp represents a significant opportunity for faith-based content creators to accelerate their professional growth while connecting with a supportive community of like-minded professionals… all without the expense of flights, accommodations, and other costs associated with traveling to film festivals and conferences.

St-Victor: Juliette Powell never stood still, whether on MusiquePlus or tech's cutting edge

I'm a romantic and believe that television's golden age is yet to come, and that the medium's death has been greatly exaggerated. Still, while it may be hard to believe now, once upon a time television unified people every day, at the same time and not on demand. TV was about daily rendezvous, not just when it was time for sports spectacles and year-end shows. Quebec TV is unique. These daily rendezvous still exist, and beyond game shows and newscasts. In addition to those staples, the province produces high-quality, addictive televised fiction, like Radio-Canada's Stat and Dumas. At another time, for another generation, the daily rendezvous included everything and anything that aired on MusiquePlus. The U.S. had MTV, and the rest of Canada had MuchMusic. MTV became an unavoidable stop for artists and politicians alike, including a presidential candidate named Bill Clinton, who created one of the most memorable moments of his 1992 campaign on the channel. It wasn't that much different here in Quebec: MusiquePlus was a must for both international and local stars, who used the network to première their videos or announce their tours. Hosts emerged who thrived beyond their departure from the channel, which stopped airing in 2019, and who remain influential staples of our media landscape, like Anne-Marie Withenshaw and Rebecca Makonnen. Also on the MusiquePlus roster of hosts was Juliette Powell, who died June 3 of acute bacterial meningitis, a few weeks shy of her 55th birthday. I met her in 2009, not long after she released her book 33 Million People in the Room: How to Create, Influence, and Run a Successful Business With Social Networking. I interviewed her for a blog, and she was brilliant and generous. She was also an avant-gardist, understanding that social media was going to change everything. In her book, she analyzed Barack Obama's sophisticated usage of social media platforms, which has since become a blueprint for so many aspiring politicians. Powell also had influence. I wonder if she knew what seeing her on the screen meant to so many of us. When a public personality dies, the praise they receive is quite a barometer. When news of Powell's passing broke this week, there was an avalanche of love on social media. In addition to the sadness, posts have expressed admiration for a woman who broke many barriers. Sure, she was the first Black Canadian to be named Miss Canada in 1989, but parlaying that into a television gig where she interviewed some of the world's most prominent musical artists was quite a feat. For many of us, she was a star among stars. Did she know it? Possibly not. Local media critics could be brutal and gratuitous. But that's the price when you're one of the first and one of the very few. The impossibly high bar is set not by you, but by those who question whether you belong. MusiquePlus had its share of mediocre VJs. Juliette Powell was not one of them. Those of us who cherished seeing a Black woman on Quebec television knew this. She moved to Toronto in 1996, hosting on MuchMusic and also studying economics, which led to business reporting on television. Her continued thirst for knowledge brought her to New York, where she graduated from Columbia University and recently taught at New York University. She remained one step ahead of most of us, researching and advising on artificial intelligence and ethics in tech. Powell was gorgeous and, honestly, she could have just banked on her looks, but she was too bright and had too much talent and vision for that. She was style and substance. And that, too, had an impact. Did she know? Whether or not she did, Juliette Powell mattered.

Popular TikTok star Khaby Lame leaves the U.S. after being detained by ICE

Khaby Lame, the world's most popular TikTok personality with millions of followers, has left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was detained Friday at Harry Reid International Airport but was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed in a statement. Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' the ICE spokesperson said. The Associated Press sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He has not publicly commented on his detainment. His detainment and voluntary departure from the U.S. comes amid President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure – which was granted to Lame – allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks.' He has over 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multi-year partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Last month, he attended the Met Gala in New York City, days after arriving in the U.S.
