Russia launched a devastating drone attack near Novgorod-Seversky, striking a Ukrainian antenna tower with a Geran-2 drone and triggering a massive fireball. The assault is part of a broader wave of Russian airstrikes, including a deadly barrage in Kharkiv that killed three people and an overnight precision strike on Kyiv. The blast damaged the historic Saint Sophia Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as 'catastrophic,' accusing Russia of deploying 'Shaheds.' Watch

North Korea Restores Damaged Warship, Plans Two More Next Year
North Korea said it successfully refloated a 5,000-ton destroyer that suffered damage in a botched launch attempt last month that left it foundering in shallow water, with leader Kim Jong Un vowing to build two more vessels of the same class next year as part of his efforts to boost the country's naval capabilities. A second launch ceremony for the Choe Hyon-class destroyer Kang Kon took place at the northeastern port of Rajin on Thursday, state media Korean Central News Agency said, less than a month after reporting a 'serious accident' during the first attempted launch of the ship in May. 'Despite the difficulties and obstacles, our massive shipbuilding plans aimed at building advanced naval power are being pushed forward at the fastest pace possible,' Kim said in a speech at the ceremony. The warship will be delivered to the navy for operations by mid-2026, and the ruling party has approved a plan to build two more 5,000-ton class destroyers next year, Kim said. 'Soon enough the enemies will learn themselves how provocative and unpleasant it is to see enemy ships running through the periphery of their sovereign waters,' Kim said. The North Korean leader slammed the approach of US strategic assets into the region as raising the risk of a nuclear war and said his forces will take 'overwhelming military action' against any aggressive move. The remarks were made just as the White House said President Donald Trump is open to communications with Kim. South Korea said it's closely communicating with the US on their North Korea policy. Analysts said the relatively fast restoration of the damaged warship signals North Korea's capability to pursue a quick naval build-up. The exact extent of the damage done to the ship in last month's accident was not disclosed. It's also unclear whether the destroyer has been fully repaired. 'Experts are generally skeptical about North Korea's naval capabilities, but time and again, including the country's recent floating of the capsized ship, the country has demonstrated that it can make impressive progress when it is prepared to devote priority, resources, and time,' the 38 North program at the Stimson Center said in a report. The country's navy mainly consists of smaller vessels for coastal defense. The new destroyers were designed to extend the nation's firepower in the Yellow Sea to the west and in eastern waters in the direction of Japan. The new vessels can launch guided missiles and boast an air defense system that include the Russian Pantsir-M, 'manifesting the growing cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow,' according to an analysis by Beyond Parallel, which focuses on North Korea. 'While North Korea's two Choe Hyon-class destroyers may not yet match the sophistication of their South Korean or US counterparts, the pace with which they were built suggests North Korean shipyards are gaining the expertise needed to produce more advanced warships in the near future,' the 38 North report said. BJP proved to be failure in Haryana: Hooda
Former Haryana chief minister (CM) Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said that the BJP, which has been in power for the last 11 years, has proved to be a failure. He said that neither the BJP led central government gave any major project to Haryana, nor the BJP led state government could get any major project from the central government. 'The double engine in Haryana has proved to be a complete failure,'' Hooda said. The former CM said that Congress governments had built a new health university, six new medical colleges (Karnal, Mewat, Khanpur, Mahendragarh, Bhiwani, Faridabad), AIIMS-2 and National Cancer Institute. 'Along with this, 10 national super specialty institutes were approved in AIIMS-2 and 641 new rural hospitals CPC-PHC were built in the state. The fee for MBBS was kept at just ₹40,000, but the BJP government increased it to ₹40 lakh,'' Hooda maintained. The BJP government, the Congress leader said, did not build a single medical college or university in the state during its 11 year rule. All the super speciality institutes approved along with AIIMS were also cancelled, he said. Hooda said the Congress government built Central University Mahendragarh and 12 new government universities. About 154 new polytechnic colleges and 56 new ITI and four new government engineering colleges were opened during Congress's tenure. 'The foundation stone of Indian National Defence University was laid in Gurgaon. 2,623 new schools were built, a new Sainik School was set up at Rewari, six new Kendriya Vidyalayas were built. More than one lakh jobs were given in the education department which includes 25,000 JBT, 25,000 TGT-PGT, and other school staff, 'he said, adding that on the other hand not a single central university, any big government university, polytechnic, ITI, engineering college was opened in Haryana during the BJP rule. Talking about employment, he said the Congress gave more than two lakh government jobs in its nine and a half years of tenure in the state. Hooda pointed out that Haryana has become number one in unemployment, (according to the Government of India data), during BJP rule. Talking about industry, Hooda said six new IMTs were built in the state during the Congress tenure, and big industries like Maruti, Asian Paints, NTPC, Reliance, Honda, IOC, Panasonic, Yokohama, Denso were established in the state. 'The BJP did not establish a single IMT in its entire tenure. Not a single big investment came. Due to increasing crime, an atmosphere of terror was created in the industry and small and big industries migrated from here. Projects like approved rail coach factory, international airport were shifted out of Haryana. Due to this, the state became the number one state in the country in unemployment, crime, drug addiction, migration, corruption,' Hooda said.

BJP govt has failed in Haryana, no major projects in last 11 years: Hooda
The Centre neither gave any major project to Haryana nor could the BJP government in the state could get any such project from the central government, the Congress leader said. He said the 'double-engine government in Haryana has proved to be a complete failure'. Chandigarh, Jun 12 (PTI) Comparing the two terms of Congress government in Haryana with the BJP's ongoing 11-year rule, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Thursday alleged that there have been no major projects in the state under the saffron party. According to a statement here, Hooda said the Congress government instead improved various sectors — health, education, agriculture and power. His government worked for the Dalits, backwards and women, Hooda said. Hooda said the Congress government had done 'historic work in the health sector as it had built one new health university, six new medical colleges (Karnal, Mewat, Khanpur, Mahendragarh, Bhiwani, Faridabad), AIIMS-2 and National Cancer Institute in Badhsa. Ten national super specialty institutes were approved in AIIMS-2, he said. But in the past 11 years, the BJP has not 'built a single medical college or university in the state and there is no progress in the construction of AIIMS Manethi (Rewari). 'All the super specialty institutes approved in the Congress government were cancelled,' he alleged. In the education sector, he said, the Congress government built Central University Mahendragarh, 12 new government universities, 154 new polytechnic colleges, 56 new ITI and four new government engineering colleges were opened, besides Rajiv Gandhi Education Society was built in Sonipat. 'The foundation stone of Indian National Defense University was laid in Gurgaon, 2,623 new schools were built, one new Sainik School in Rewari and six new Kendriya Vidyalayas were built. More than 1 lakh jobs were given in the education department…,' he said. 'During the BJP government, not a single central university, any big government university, polytechnic, Industrial Training Institute, engineering college was opened in Haryana…Even today, 38000 teacher posts are lying vacant in the education department,' he claimed. The Congress, Hooda said, gave more than 2 lakh government jobs between 2005 and 2014. 'The then Congress government made a record of maximum investment and employment generation in the private sector. We made a policy to end the practice of contracting. Foreign companies came to Haryana and thousands of jobs were generated,' he said. Hooda claimed that now Haryana is seeing a high unemployment rate. 'Due to this, unemployed youth were forced to migrate to foreign countries through the 'donkey' route (illegal routes),' he said. Hooda said six new industrial model townships (IMT) were built in the state during the Congress tenure, and big industries like Maruti, Asian Paints, NTPC, Reliance, Honda, IOC, Panasonic, Yokohama, Denso were established in the state. 'The BJP government did not establish a single IMT in its entire tenure. Not a single big investment came. Due to increasing crime, an atmosphere of terror was created in the industry and small and big industries migrated from here… Due to this, the state became the number one state in the country in unemployment, crime, drug addiction, migration, corruption,' he alleged. Referring to the power sector, Hooda said during the Congress government, five power plants, one approved nuclear plant were established. The cheapest electricity was provided in the country. Domestic and agricultural power lines, transformers and feeders were separated, he said. 'BJP has not established a single power plant or nuclear power plant till date,' he claimed. Hooda said the Congress government also gave free plots of 100 yards each to four lakh poor families including SCs. He said the Congress also started the MNREGA's employment guarantee scheme. On the agriculture sector, Hooda said the then Congress government waived electricity bills of Rs 1,600 crores and loans of Rs 2,200 crores of farmers. 'Crop loan was provided to farmers at zero interest. MSP of wheat was increased by 126 per cent, MSP of paddy by 143 per cent. Sugarcane price was increased from Rs 117 to 310 (per quintal), the highest in the country then,' he said. 'In contrast, the biggest farmer movement (against now repealed central farm laws) in history happened during the BJP government's tenure in which 750 farmers died.' Still, they did nothing on MSP guarantee or delivered on their promise of doubling farmers' income, he said. 'This government did not even waive off electricity bill or loan of a single farmer, Hooda added. PTI SUN SKY SKY This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
