Automotive News' 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry recognizes female leaders in the automotive field – those who make major decisions and have significant influence at their companies. Automotive News has published the list of the industry's top female executive every five years since 2000.
The 2025 class of Automotive News' 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry emerged from a months-long nomination and judging process that attracted hundreds of entries from the United States, Canada and Mexico. This sixth list includes engineers, mobility leaders, manufacturing and marketing executives, financiers, dealer principals and designers.
This repeat recognition places Fleming among a distinguished group of industry trailblazers whose impact continues to shape the future of mobility.
Fleming started her career in automotive back in 1992 working at a car dealership in her hometown of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. With over thirty years of dynamic industry experience under her belt, Fleming became Mazda Canada's first Chief Operating Officer in April 2023. She currently oversees Mazda Canada's national sales, marketing, fixed operations and customer experience operations. Under her leadership, Mazda Canada has seen record levels of business quality, employee engagement, retailer partner performance, and retail partner satisfaction.

Mazda recalls 170,000 North American vehicles for airbag malfunction

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Sean Kilpatrick Mazda has initiated a continent-wide auto recall after discovering a software glitch that may deactivate the air bags on more than 170,000 cars and SUVs. Published at the end of May by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall includes 2024 and 2025 models of the Mazda CX-30 and Mazda 3 sold in Canada, the United States and in U.S. territories. According to a report included with the recall, the issue stems from the Sophisticated Air Bag Sensor (SAS) system on affected models. In some circumstances, if the car battery is completely drained without the engine running, the SAS will 'store an internal fault,' meaning when the battery is recharged, a warning light will turn on indicating that 'the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash.' Records show Mazda received its first report of a related issue in June of last year. As of May 23, the manufacturer says it is not aware of any reported accidents or injuries relevant to the recall. Owners of affected models will be notified by mail and directed to bring their vehicle into a dealership, where the SAS will be reprogrammed or replaced, as necessary, the recall says.

MAZDA CANADA REPORTS SALES FOR MAY 2025
RICHMOND HILL, ON, June 3, 2025 /CNW/ - Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) today reported May sales of 7,946 vehicles, representing an increase of 15.0 percent versus May 2024. Sales year-to-date (YTD) are 32,830, which is an increase of 24.0 percent compared to the same period in 2024. MAY 2025 HIGHLIGHTS: CX-30 finished the month with strong results, up 52.2 percent year-over-year, and set a new all-time monthly record. CX-90 continues to perform well, topping last year's figure by 27.9 percent and setting a new benchmark for May sales. Mazda3 sales were up 6.5 percent compared to the same time last year. CX-5 sales gained over last year's total, finishing the month up by 16.7 percent. Full-line sales experienced the best May results in 13 years.
