East China's trade hub Yuyao taps Central and Eastern European market with passion, innovation

YUYAO, CHINA - Media OutReach Newswire - 22 May 2025 - From May 22 to 25, the fourth China-Central and Eastern European Countries Expo & International Consumer Goods Fair will be held in Ningbo, a port city in Zhejiang Province, eastern China, according to the event's executive committee. In 2020, the China-Central and Eastern European International Industrial Cooperation Park was officially established, becoming a crucial platform for enhancing economic cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe.In addition to the industrial cooperation park, numerous private enterprises in Yuyao are actively expanding their operations in Central and Eastern Europe. Several Yuyao-made products have already become part of consumers' lives in the region.For example, products developed by Zhejiang Biyi Electric Appliance Co., Ltd., including coffee machines and air fryers, have entered the markets of eight Central and Eastern European countries, with exports to the region up by nearly 90% in 2024. From January to April this year, the company's exports to the region increased by over 50% year on year.Similarly, Ningbo Fuda Intelligent Technology, has seen significant success in the Central and Eastern European market since entering Poland five years ago. The company has exported mobile air conditioners and dehumidifiers to five Central and Eastern European countries."Thanks to our years of dedicated development in the Central and Eastern European market, we have seen a surge in shipments since 2025, with sales increasing nearly 180% from January to April 2025," said Fang Zhihao, deputy general manager of Fuda, emphasizing the market's vast potential.In late March, Ningbo organized a delegation of over 40 companies, including Biyi Electric Appliance and a local hot spring resort, to explore opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe. They attended the China-Hungary trade and investment matchmaking conference and visited various enterprises and institutions in Central and Eastern Europe to generate interest for the upcoming expo, according to the information office of Yuyao.Statistics from Yuyao customs showed that from January to April this year, the total value of imports and exports by private enterprises in Yuyao reached 30.27 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.3%, accounting for 80.3% of the city's foreign trade. More than 900 Yuyao businesses export to Central and Eastern Europe, with an export value of 1.88 billion yuan, up 24.1% from last year.The continued expansion of Yuyao enterprises in the Central and Eastern European markets is supported by a series of facilitative government measures.To assist local businesses in accelerating exports to Central and Eastern European countries, Yuyao customs has promoted self-printed certificates of origin, ensuring quick access for businesses. From January to April this year, Yuyao customs issued 539 certificates of origin for exported goods to Central and Eastern Europe, valued at 143 million yuan, representing year-on-year increases of 10% and 35.92%, respectively.Recognizing the region's abundance of specialized, innovative small- and medium-sized enterprises, Yuyao customs has leveraged its customs credit accreditation policies to establish a target list of 46 specialized "little giant" enterprises, providing advanced certification policy guidance to five firms, successfully nurturing Fengmao Technology into a customs AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) certified enterprise.In March this year, Yuyao announced plans for 2025 to implement initiatives to nurture industrial leaders, facilitate industry upgrading, promote enterprise going-global and encourage private firms to lead overseas venture along Belt and Road countries, among others.Hashtag: #Yuyao

Lee rode Korean voter discontent to power, now faces policy test
SOUTH Korea's new President Lee Jae-myung rode a wave of voter anger against the December martial law attempt by his ousted predecessor, but his ability to lead will be judged by the strength of his policies. With preliminary results suggesting a comfortable win over Kim Moon-soo, the candidate for the conservative People Power Party, Lee will take office with a resounding mandate and his Democratic Party in control of parliament. Healing the political rifts that led to former president Yoon Suk Yeol's shock martial law and its divisive aftermath will be a tall order. Analysts say both candidates were vague on their policy plans during the campaign, and Lee Jun-han, a political science professor at Incheon National University, said the results are more an indictment of Yoon and his PPP's poor performance than an endorsement of the DP. He said Kim, who opposed Yoon's impeachment, was unprepared and the PPP did not show remorse after the martial law. While Lee has had his eye on the presidency for years, there have been major developments since he narrowly lost to Yoon in the 2022 election, said Kim Jun-seok, a political science professor at Dongguk University. Lee has also shown sensitivity to the political winds, moderating some of his stances on China, Japan, and populist economic policies such as universal income ahead of the election. "Things may not be easy with Trump, but I hope he will hire capable aides and settle the issues." Lee's Democratic Party will control Parliament, easing the passage of legislation and budgets after years of deadlock between Yoon and the legislature. That may do little to soothe political polarisation, however, with conservatives warning that Lee and the DP will steamroll over any opposition. Incheon University's Lee said: "Since they are the absolute majority, there seems to be few checks and balances to stop them." In May, a DP-led committee passed legislation aimed at changing an election law that Lee has been convicted of violating. They have also promised to pass legislation clarifying what protections presidents have from criminal investigations, a move seen as trying to reduce Lee's exposure to other charges.

China has announced the implementation of an 'ASEAN visa' aimed at citizens from the 10 ASEAN member states as well as Timor-Leste, an ASEAN observer, in a move to ease travel and exchanges between China and Southeast Asia. The announcement was made by Lin Jian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a press conference held on Tuesday. Lin explained that the initiative seeks to simplify cross-border travel in the region, complementing existing visa exemptions China has with countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. It also adds to the 'Lancang-Mekong visa' programme offered to tourists from countries in the Mekong River basin. 'The construction of a China-ASEAN community with a shared future is being strengthened, and joint efforts to build 'a safe, peaceful, prosperous, beautiful and friendly home' have shown results over recent years,' Lin said. He added that exchanges and visits between the people of China and Southeast Asian countries are very close, and further facilitation of such exchanges is a shared aspiration among all parties. The new 'ASEAN visa' will offer eligible applicants a multiple-entry visa valid for five years for business visit purposes to China. KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Xinhua) -- China's continued commitment to free and open trade, as well as balanced multilateral cooperation, is not only empowering its own economic growth but also providing a strong foundation for developing economies across the Global South amid mounting global uncertainty, according to analysts. OPEN TRADE STANCE BOLSTERING GLOBAL SOUTH China's participation in the recent ASEAN-China-GCC Summit underscores its role as an economic anchor, helping to counterbalance the harmful effects of rising protectionism and unilateral policies by certain countries, said Lee Pei May, a political expert at the International Islamic University Malaysia, in a recent interview with Xinhua. "The summit allows ASEAN, GCC, and China to align more closely with the broader Global South's interest and agenda," Lee said. "Such platforms provide opportunities to amplify their voice and also discuss new ways to cooperate amidst global uncertainty," she further explained, adding that it was also a good opportunity for the Global South to try to reshape the world order to be more inclusive and diverse. "As some countries are becoming more protectionist and isolationist, the summit was a good initiative and effort to counter these emerging trends. EXPANDING PRACTICAL COOPERATION IN DEVELOPMENT Malaysian experts also stress the importance of practical and inclusive cooperation among developing nations. The summit offers a promising platform for South-South collaboration in key sectors, especially for countries seeking alternatives to Western-dominated systems. Andrew Kam Jia Yi, a senior research fellow with the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies at the National University of Malaysia, highlighted the increasingly fractious nature of global technological development and the need for more inclusive cooperation frameworks. He pointed out that sharing would benefit from closer cooperation between countries that are at risk of U.S. pressure over their engagement with China, enabling them to continue their development and adoption of new technology. "The summit opens new pathways for South-South collaboration, where nations can support one another through trade, joint infrastructure projects, and technology sharing," he said. "It is particularly complementary in critical areas such as renewable energy, digital innovation, and public health." "This cooperation will be able to pursue an independent path of free and open trade and multilateralism.
