Cabinet readies reply to L-G's TBR questions
After Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha returned a file on Transaction of Business Rules (TBR) to the government, the Cabinet led by CM Omar Abdullah met on Monday to draft a comprehensive response to the queries raised by the L-G with regard to the rules. 'This comprehensive response from the Cabinet will be sent to the Raj Bhawan,' senior National Conference leader and MLA Tanvir Sadiq said, adding, 'The TBR is a work in process. And we hope there will be clarity on the issue very soon.' A Cabinet sub-committee formed by Abdullah had okayed the TBR for J&K and sent it to Sinha for his nod in March.
JKSA slams Delhi University for 'profiling' Kashmiri pupils
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has written to Union Home Minister (HM) Amit Shah, urging the immediate withdrawal of a 'discriminatory' circular issued by Delhi University that allegedly profiles students belonging to J&K. According to the association, the directive has triggered concern among Kashmiri students, who have been facing harassment following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In its letter to Shah, the JKSA warned that the diktat threatens to undermine the constitutional rights and dignity of an entire group of students and undermines the very idea of India as a pluralistic and inclusive democracy.

Karnataka Cabinet to decide on implementation of RDSS

BENGALURU: Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George on Monday said that the Cabinet will take a decision on the implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). If this happens, then consumers will have to pay less for the installation of smart metres against the present cost of Rs 4,998. The RDSS scheme is aimed at improving the performance of electricity distribution companies (ESCOMs) for the installation and operations of smart metres. Speaking to media, George said that the RDSS scheme will end in December. However, during the recent meeting with Union Government officials, extension and implementation of the scheme were discussed. 'If this happens, then all the smart metres can be replaced in bulk. The cost will then work out cheaper. Presently in Karnataka, smart metres are being installed only for new and temporary connections. If the Cabinet approves, then all metres can be replaced in around two years,' George said, adding that the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission will take the decision on the reduced rate.

CM Saini's surprise visit delights Karnal villagers

The residents of Karnal's Fafdana were in for a surprise as Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini — who was on his way back from the state-level Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebrations held at Assandh's Salwan — made a pit stop at their village. Getting off his vehicle, CM Saini headed straight toward a group of villagers huddled under a tree. Wide-eyed with astonishment, the locals patiently answered every question the CM asked about the development issues being faced in the area. Later in the journey, Saini's convoy also had a stopover in Jalmana village, where he again seized the opportunity to mingle with local residents and traders. AAP pulls out all stops ahead of June 19 bypoll With the high-stakes Ludhiana (West) byelection slated for June 19 fast approaching, AAP is pulling out all stops to woo urban voters. The state Cabinet gave its nod to the land pooling policy for 27 towns and cities during a meet chaired by the CM last Monday. The following day, it okayed a proposal to waive off the loans taken by 4,727 families belonging to the SC community that amount to a staggering `68 crore. Then on Wednesday it cleared an amendment to the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act of 1958 to reduce compliance burdens on 95% of small businesses. Cracks appear in Punjab Congress leadership Even during an election season, the grand old party fails to put up a united front. Every now and then, internal rifts make headlines, much to the embarrassment of the top Congress leadership. And the party just can't catch a break! The posters released for its Ludhiana (West) candidate, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, have renewed speculation of a power play. Why? Because they notably don't feature photos of state unit president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Lok Sabha MP from Gurdaspur Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. While the party may insist that all is well, the divide couldn't be more apparent. Harpreet Bajwa Our correspondent in Chandigarh hsbajwa73@

PDS rice will be distributed till June 30: Civil Supplies dept

Hyderabad: In light of the government's decision to distribute Public Distribution System (PDS) rice for three months, the Civil Supplies department has urged beneficiaries not to panic, confirming that distribution will continue until the end of June. The department explicitly denied recent rumours suggesting that the process would conclude by June 15. According to officials, this ration distribution will proceed without interruption until June 30, strictly adhering to the officially notified schedule. An official release stated, 'There is no need for panic or crowding at Fair Price Shops. Beneficiaries are requested to visit their respective Fair Price Shops in a staggered manner and collect their entitlements within the stipulated timeframe.' To ensure effective communication at the grassroots level, all Fair Price Shop dealers have been instructed to clearly display or communicate the updated ration distribution schedule to the public through appropriate means at their outlets. Strict compliance has been directed, and field officers will monitor the implementation to ensure that accurate information reaches all beneficiaries, the department added.
