Body of missing father of five found in Georgia lake after kayaking trip

The body of a father of five who vanished last week while kayaking on a Georgia lake has been discovered underwater, police said.
Dustin Valencia, 43, was reported missing Wednesday by his wife after he did not show up to pick up his children from school, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.
A search ensued and authorities tracked his last location to Lake Lanier in Georgia, where they found Valencia's car parked nearby, along with his flip-flops and the bag used to store his inflatable kayak.
On Friday, the department announced that game wardens with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, using sonar equipment, located a body in the lake. Divers from the Forsyth County Fire Department recovered the remains from about 51 feet of water near the center of a cove.

In the days following his disappearance, Valencia's kayak and paddle were found floating near the outer edge of the cove. Friends say he was training for a triathlon and had likely gone kayaking for exercise.
Authorities said the 43-year-old kayaker was not wearing a life vest at the time of his drowning.
"My understanding is that he was not wearing a life vest," an official said, according to Fox News affiliate Waga-tv. "Even strong swimmers can have a medical emergency or cramp. If that happens, and you're not wearing a life jacket, you're at serious risk."

An official cause of death has not been released. The case remains under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit. The sheriff's office referred Fox News Digital to the department's press release.
"Please continue to share [and] pray," a GoFundMe for the family said. "The Valencia family feels your love and strength, and they are deeply grateful for the community that surrounds them."
Lake Lanier, where Valencia disappeared, is home to a popular local legend. The ghost story of the Lady of the Lake involves a woman in a blue dress who is said to haunt the lake after dying in a car accident there in the 1950s.
The man-made lake has a maximum depth of about 160 feet and was created in the 1950s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.Original article source: Body of missing father of five found in Georgia lake after kayaking trip

Bongino: ‘Threat picture' for US is ‘dramatic'

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino sounded alarms during an interview Wednesday night on Fox News's 'Hannity' about the perilous threats the country faces and the impact of emerging technologies as law enforcement tries to stop terrorism. 'The threat picture now for the United States is dramatic,' Bongino told host Sean Hannity. 'When you get the president's daily brief every morning like the director and I do for this … you go out of there [and] your blood pressure is through the roof. It's so many different things.' He cited threats from drone attacks, artificial intelligence, China and infiltration from other countries among his biggest concerns. 'People say, 'Well, what keeps you up at night?'' Bongino said. 'Well, the answer is, I'd never sleep if I thought about this stuff all the time, but it all keeps me up at night.' President Trump named longtime ally Bongino, a former U.S. Secret Service agent, radio personality and podcaster who has guest-hosted Hannity's show in the past, to the FBI's No. 2 role in February. Bongino said he and FBI Director Kash Patel have prioritized building trust in federal law enforcement through reform. 'Without reform, we're not going to have anything, because the American people won't trust us,' he said. Bongino noted he had spoken to recent graduates of the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va., earlier in the day and stressed the multitude of threats he sees facing the country. 'I said, 'There's no one coming to save us — the Marvel Avengers ain't coming,'' Bongino recalled to Hannity. 'It is us.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Trump picks Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for DC, appoints Martin at DOJ

President Donald Trump picked Fox News host and former prosecutor Jeanine Pirro for interim U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C., hours after announcing that he was pulling the nomination of Ed Martin. Martin failed to get enough support from Republicans on Capitol Hill. 'I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,' Trump posted on Truth Social on May 8. 'Jeanine was Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, New York, and then went on to serve as County Judge, and District Attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to those positions.' Trump described Pirro as 'crusader for victims of crime" and said she was 'considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York.' Pirro, a former host of 'Justice with Judge Jeanine' on Fox News for ten years, is currently the co-host of The Five, also on Fox News. Earlier in the day, Trump told reporters that Martin was not 'getting the support.' Martin, who has championed Jan. 6 Capitol attackers, faced a rare opposition from a Republican senator. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Tillis said on May 6 that he decided not to support the nomination due to Martin's positions on Jan. 6 defendants. "If Mr. Martin were being put forth as a US attorney for any district except the district where January 6th happened, the protest happened, I'd probably support him, but not in this district," Tillis told reporters. By the end of the day, Trump had decided on a new role for Martin. "Ed Martin has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney, and will be moving to the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney," wrote Trump on Truth Social. "In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims."
