Opening Day 2025: Spokane Indians roster features six top-30 prospects, 15 returning players for Northwest League title defense
Apr. 3—The Colorado Rockies assigned 30 players to the Spokane Indians' roster on Monday for the start of the 2025 Northwest League season, which opens Friday against the Everett AquaSox at Avista Stadium.
The roster for the defending champions includes 15 returning players and six of Colorado's top 30 prospects.

The Indians' offense should be led by outfielder Jared Thomas, first baseman Aidan Longwell and shortstop Braylen Wimmer.
Thomas, the Rockies' No. 12 prospect, was the 42nd overall pick in last year's draft out of University of Texas and shined in a brief cameo with Fresno. Longwell (.313/.403/.425) and Wimmer (14 HR, 64 RBIs, 34 SB) were both lineup stalwarts for the Grizzlies.
Local standout Stu Flesland III, who pitched at Mt. Spokane High School and the University of Washington, will join a pitching staff that also features Rockies No. 14 prospect Jordy Vargas and No. 23 prospect Welinton Herrera.
Vargas missed all of 2024 while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

Returning players on this year's squad include EJ Andrews Jr, Jesus Bugarin, Cade Denton, Konner Eaton, Braxton Hyde, Cole Messina (Rockies No. 28 prospect), Skyler Messinger, Jesus Ordonez, Albert Pacheco, Davis Palermo, Andy Perez (Rockies No. 22 prospect), Jean Perez, Michael Prosecky (Rockies No. 30 prospect) and Felix Ramires.
The Indians enjoyed a dominant season in 2024, winning both halves of the Northwest League season and the overall regular-season title, finishing at 79-51 (.608), 10 1/2 games ahead of second-place Vancouver. The Indians went on to defeat the Canadians 3-1 in the championship series.
The Indians won the deciding Game 4 at Gonzaga University's Patterson Baseball Complex, since Avista Stadium was in the process of renovations for the 2025 season.
It was the 20th professional title in Spokane's rich baseball history and first since 2008.

Bryan Reynolds' bases-clearing triple
Carlos Mendoza talks Kodai Senga pitch mix, Brett Baty's clutch hit, Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto HRs Mets manager Carlos Mendoza liked everything about Kodai Senga's start on Saturday, as he got the Rockies to chase several pitches out of the strike zone with the "Ghost Fork." Offensively, he thought Brett Baty's big bases-clearing triple in the first inning set the tone for the rest of the game. Mendoza also touched on the Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto home runs as a great sign that their bats are coming alive. 6:59 Now Playing Paused Ad Playing

Rockies Suffer Major Loss Before Mets Game
Rockies Suffer Major Loss Before Mets Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Colorado Rockies are as hot as a 12-50 team could be heading into their bout with the New York Mets on Friday night. They swept the Miami Marlins on the road in their last series after losing their previous seven contests, outscoring them 12-8 over the three games. Advertisement Colorado's offense has been unreliable, as they've scored at least four runs in just five of their last 20 games. Even in their sweep of the Marlins, the Rockies won the latter two contests 3-2 after winning the opener 6-4. The team will now have to play New York without an important bat, via Rockies PR. Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (14).Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Colorado placed shortstop Ezequiel Tovar on the 10-day IL (retroactive to June 3) with a left oblique strain ahead of the game. It also selected the contract of infielder Ryan Ritter from Triple-A Albuquerque, recalled catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A, reinstated right-handed pitcher Zach Agnos from the bereavement list, and unconditionally released catcher Jacob Stallings. Tovar is slashing .258/.301/406 with three homers and 10 RBI over 32 games this season. The 23-year-old had a career year in 2024, slashing .269/.295/.469 with 26 homers and 78 RBI over 157 contests. Advertisement Meanwhile, the Mets are coming off a 2-2 series split vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road. They hold a 1.5-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East and are a half-game behind the Chicago Cubs for the NL's top seed. New York will finish its road trip in Colorado before hosting the Washington Nationals. Saints make it official, process former All-Pro Ryan Ramczyk's retirement
Last Monday, the New Orleans Saints officially processed Derek Carr's retirement, bringing his NFL career to a close. One week later, they did the same with former All-Pro right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, per the daily transactions wire. We knew this was coming, but now there's no taking it back. Ramczyk won't wear No. 71 again, but its new owner Kelvin Banks Jr. ought to do it twin retirements leave the Saints with two vacancies on their 90-man offseason roster; they currently have 44 players under contract offensively, with 37 of them on defense, and four specialists (plus Irish kicker Charlie Smyth, who has an exemption as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program). How they'll address those two openings is anyone's guess, but we have some ideas. The team has recently met with free agents like wide receiver Gabe Davis, defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard, and cornerback Asante Samuel about the salary cap? This year, the Saints are carrying a total of $76.9 million in dead money from contracts with players no longer on the team -- $13.4 million of which accounts for Carr, and just over $11 million of which is from Ramczyk. In 2026, those numbers go up to $36.6 million for Carr and $11.9 million for Ramczyk, for a total of $48.6 million in dead money on next year's books. That's after Ramczyk agreed to lower this year's salary to the minimum with Carr forfeiting $30 million to facilitate their retirements. The Saints did get a small $1.255 million cap credit for Ramczyk retiring, just like they did for Carr, but most of those savings were wiped out by lesser contracts in the $1.03 million neighborhood replacing them above the top-51 luck to Ramczyk in retirement. Whether he's planning to take up coaching the next generation of linemen or go home to Wisconsin and log a lot of hours in his deer stand, he can do it knowing he achieved a career as a player that anyone would be proud article originally appeared on Saints Wire: NFL retirement news: Saints process Ryan Ramczyk's papers
