Police respond to shooting in Meridian Mall parking lot
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Multiple police agencies rushed to the scene of a shooting in the parking lot of the Meridian Mall in Okemos around 1:20 p.m. Friday, involving multiple people being injured, according to the Meridian police chief.
Police from Meridian Township, East Lansing and Michigan State University responded to the scene. As of 2 p.m. Friday, police are not saying on the record what led to the response and are not saying how many people were injured or the extent of their injuries.
Meridian Township police posted the following statement on its Facebook page: 'The Meridian Township Police Department is investigating a shooting at the Meridian Mall. Please avoid the East side of the Mall near the Dicks Sporting Goods entrance at this time. It is not believed that there is a continued threat to the public.'
Police tell 6 News the shooting happened outside the mall and the mall remains open for business.
6 News has a crew on the scene and will update this story as information is confirmed from law enforcement.
