Interim boss Morrison pleased Dike call paid off
West Bromwich Albion interim manager James Morrison was pleased he went with his gut after agonising over whether to start Daryl Dike against Luton Town.In his first Championship start in 25 months, after an injury-ravaged two years, American striker Dike scored his first league goal since March 2023 in West Brom's 5-3 final day victory.Morrison did not take any unnecessary risks with Dike, bringing him off after 62 minutes, and he told BBC WM: "It took me a good three days to think about it but I'm glad I went with my gut and I'm happy for Daryl.
"We were 5-1 up [when Dike was substituted] and I just felt, he has done his bit, scored a goal, let's keep him safe and that feeling of scoring and playing well and [go] into next year."We'll always keep working with Daryl daily, and working on his game. I still believe there is a lot more to come from Daryl and he knows it as well and we'll work on the training pitch."I want him to use his physicality more. Want him to be horrible to play against so let's keep working."

Wales schools to compete in NFL Flag UK Championships
Ysgol Gwynedd in Flint and Prestatyn High School will represent Wales at the UK NFL Flag 2025 National Championships in Leeds on Tuesday, June 17. The schools secured their places by winning their age categories at the Welsh NFL Flag National Championships, held on May 6 at Cardiff Metropolitan High School one the 15U Girls' tournament (Image: NFL) Ysgol Gwynedd triumphed in the 11U Mixed division, while Prestatyn High School won the 15U Girls' tournament. Dr Chris Long, NFL head of youth football and grassroots development, said: "Thank you to all the schools from across Wales who have competed in this year's championship, and its preceding qualifiers. "We are so pleased to see more and more people of all ages playing NFL Flag, some coming back year after year and developing their game, some getting their first taste of American football. "We look forward to welcoming all our champion teams in Leeds later this month." A record 480 schools entered this year's UK competition, with 28 teams now set to compete for national Flag Wales National Championships at Cardiff Metropolitan University (Image: NFL) Among them are Mary Immaculate High School, who took the 13U Mixed title alongside Ysgol Gwynedd and Prestatyn High School as Wales' three national champions. NFL Flag is the league's official non-contact football programme and has rapidly gained popularity in the UK since launching in 2017. More than 120,000 people now play across 1,000 schools. Flag football is set to debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It is played by more than 20 million people in over 100 countries. The sport is non-contact, fast-paced, and emphasises inclusivity—making it accessible to players of all ages and abilities. Female participation is especially strong, with the 15U Girls category among the fastest-growing divisions. The International Federation of American Football and the NFL continue to invest in the sport's development from grassroots to elite levels. The format's growing popularity reflects a global rise in interest, driven by its simplicity and emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and athleticism. With their recent victories, Ysgol Gwynedd and Prestatyn High School have already demonstrated that Welsh schools are competitive on a national level. Their achievements have also helped raise the profile of the sport in North Wales, encouraging more young people to get involved. Judge Claudia Wilken has approved the settlement in the House v. NCAA case - which now paves a pathway to allow colleges and universities to directly pay their athletes and changes the dynamic of American collegiate athletics forever. A decade ago, college athletes were treated as amateurs and were not directly compensated for their contributions to athletic departments, nor were they able to be paid by outside companies. With the rise of name, image, and likeness agreements in 2021, athletes could sign endorsement deals with companies and collectives of donors could pool money which could be given to athletes. Now, with this landmark settlement, the NCAA's member institutions will be allowed to pay their athletes directly in the form of revenue sharing agreements. The focal point of this case began with Arizona State swimmer Grant House, who sued the NCAA and its five biggest conferences at the time - the SEC, Big Ten, Big XII, ACC, and Pac-12 - to lift restrictions on revenue sharing. Wilken gave approval to a final proposal after months of negotiating multiple finer points of the deal - including roster limits.

Ex-Arsenal and Man Utd stars to go head-to-head for League One manager job
Plymouth Argyle are considering two former Premier League stars for their managerial vacancies after Wayne Rooney's replacement, Miron Muslic departed the club for Schalke. Jack Wilshere and Tom Cleverley are among the candidates to be interviewed for the vacant Plymouth Argyle job. Both the former Arsenal midfielder and ex-Manchester United ace are out of work having managed in the Championship last season Plymouth are in need of a new boss having seen Miron Muslic depart for Schalke after less than a year in the job. Muslic oversaw the side's relegation after replacing Wayne Rooney at Home Park. Rooney was sacked by the club in December after lasting 221 days of his three-year contract. The ex-Derby and Birmingham City boss managed just four wins and was relieved of his duties after a nine-game winless run put the team four points from safety. Muslic was expected to continue at Plymouth having given chairman Simon Hallett assurances he would lead the side's campaign to earn promotion from the Championship. The club had already moved to put personnel and structures in place that Muslic insisted upon. But Argyle have been forced into the managerial market and could go for a high-profile name once again with Wilshere and Cleverley in the frame. The former took charge of Norwich's final two games of the season as interim-boss after the Canaries parted ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup. Wilshere arrived at Carrow Road in October 2024 as a member of coaching staff. The ex-England international was previously in charge of Arsenal under-18s and parted ways with Norwich via mutual agreement after the team decided they wouldn't consider him for the permanent job. Cleverley meanwhile saw his playing career end with Watford where he moved into coaching. The 35-year-old was working with the Hornets academy before being named as interim head coach when Valerien Ismael was dismissed. Cleverly impressed enough to be handed the role on a permanent basis but lasted little over 12 months before being sacked last month. The United academy product remained proud of his efforts. "After the sadness wears off, I will forever have a feeling of gratitude and happiness towards the club and the place and people of Watford," he said. "To have built a connection with the players and supporters over the last 14 months has been special and the achievement I'm most proud about. "To see the development of our key players, young players and academy players, has been an incredibly rewarding part of my job and their progress in the game will always be something I look out for. We have used 11 players aged 21 and under this year and both they and the club will benefit hugely for this experience. "To maintain league position and points after selling key players last summer is something we should be proud of, as well as reflecting on why we couldn't sustain our play-off challenge will be something we should all review." Wilshere and Cleverley will also see competition from Des Buckingham. The 40-year-old was surprisingly sacked by Oxford United in December.
