BEIJING, June 16 (Bernama) -- During a 2021 visit to the very place where his father had once worked, Chinese President Xi Jinping softly recited a line now displayed prominently in the exhibition hall – "Sit upright at the side of the people."
These words were spoken, and lived by, his father Xi Zhongxun, who was a revered leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Pakistan shut borders with Iran amid rising Iran-Israel tensions

KARACHI (Pakistan), June 16 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Pakistan has closed its air and land routes with neighbouring Iran amid the latter's escalating conflict with Israel, leaving hundreds stranded on both sides of the border, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) quoted officials on Monday. The closure, effective since Sunday, is expected to cause food and fuel shortages in parts of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, which relies heavily on supplies and smuggled oil from Iran, local residents fear. Multiple land routes link Pakistan with Iran, with the Taftan border crossing in Chaghi district and the Gabd-Rimdan crossing in Gwadar district among the most prominent. Balochistan government spokesman, Shahid Rind told AA that the closure followed a similar move by Iran. "All border crossings between the two countries have been closed for trade and pedestrian movement after Iran initiated the closure," he said. However, he added that Pakistanis stranded in Iran would be allowed to return, although new entries into Iran are barred until further notice. The first group of stranded citizens, comprising mainly pilgrims and students, was expected to return via the Taftan crossing later on Monday. Meanwhile, several airlines operating flights from Pakistan to Iran and Iraq have suspended operations due to rising regional tensions, according to a Civil Aviation Authority spokesman. - Bernama-Anadolu

"The Cabinet Committee Meeting on National Food Security Policy No. 1/2025 which I chaired today agreed for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to formulate a strategy for the development of the local corn industry," he said in a Facebook post today.

Govt's Funding A Step Towards Future-Ready Mainstream Media

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- The allocation of RM30 million announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for media organisations in the country to implement digital transformation and adopt new technology received kudos from journalists, as it will go a long way to attract the younger generation to mainstream content. This initiative is also seen as significant to ensure that the mainstream media remains relevant in the fast-paced digital era, by positioning it as a platform capable of content creation to deliver information in a more creative, engaging, accurate and high-impact manner. National Press Club (NPC) vice-president Farrah Naz Abd Karim described the allocation as a catalyst for media organisations to use creative approaches in delivering important issues to make them more digestible for young readers. 'This also proves that the MADANI government is paying attention to this industry by working together to think about ways to improve the quality of output from players in the journalism industry,' she said, thanking the government for the allocation. Meanwhile, Sinar Harian Group Editor-in-Chief Zamri Rambli, when contacted, said the funding was an important step in strengthening the country's media industry. According to him, digital transformation is no longer an option but a necessity in ensuring journalism remains relevant and sustainable. 'Government support for media organisations will help us adapt to the challenges of new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and shifts in reader habits. 'We hope that this fund can be effectively utilised, not only to enhance digital infrastructure but also to empower journalists to deliver news faster, more accurately and with integrity,' he said. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the HAWANA 2025 summit at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre here last Saturday, announced an allocation of RM30 million for media organisations in the country to implement digital transformation and adopt new technologies.
