Hugh Bowman continued his fine form with a treble as former Australian sprinter Colourful King lit up Happy Valley with an explosive victory on Wednesday night.
Consolidating second place in the jockeys' premiership, Bowman converted a strong book on paper to a three-timer when he booted home Harmony Galaxy, Stellar Swift and Casa Rochester.
The Australian ace was at his brilliant best on Mark Newnham's Casa Rochester, weaving his way through the field from near the tail to lift the import to a narrow triumph in the Class Four Oi Man Handicap (1,650m).
'I had nice rides coming into the meeting and you don't expect them all to win, but [Casa Rochester] had an awkward barrier [eight] but he was aided by a frantic speed and I did think he would be a better horse ridden to hit the line and it proved right,' Bowman said.

'I think he's still pretty immature and lacks strength. He might have more in store.'
A maiden winner on his only New Zealand start when known as Rochester pre-import, Casa Rochester had raced without luck on his five Hong Kong starts before the breakthrough success.
Another import, Harmony Galaxy, started Bowman's big night with his own breakthrough win in the city at start 14 for Danny Shum Chap-shing in the Class Four Wylie Handicap (1,800m).
'Harmony Galaxy has been a work in progress, he needs to relax to produce his best and I was a bit worried going past the post for the first time that he wasn't settling for me but then the pace increased and he got into a really beautiful rhythm,' Bowman said after Brazilian Group One placegetter Harmony Galaxy flew home to beat Can't Go Wong by a short head.
'I thought he got to the front with a bit in hand and he floated a bit and waited so, again, he's still got more up his sleeve but it was great to win for him and the connections.'
Stellar Swift was the middle leg of Bowman's treble, capitalising on an inside run in the straight to claim the second section of the Class Four King's Park Handicap (1,200m) for trainer David Hayes.
The win of the night belonged to Colourful King, who demolished his opposition with an electrifying display in the Class Three Hong Kong China Rugby Cup (1,000m).
After a narrow triumph over Youthful Spirits second up, the David Eustace-trained three-year-old again proved too slick for that galloper but improved his winning margin to a dominant two lengths under Andrea Atzeni.
'He was impressive today,' said Eustace, who continued his winning spree after a Sha Tin treble last Sunday.
'The race looked like it would set up well for him. They were clearly going to go pretty quick up front, which certainly helped, but having said that he won with authority.
'We were confident he would improve – it was only his third start and he trained on really nicely, so we came here hopeful.'
Sent off the $3 favourite, Colourful King settled midfield on the fence and sprinted powerfully once Atzeni came off the rail in the straight.

He roared past pacesetter Youthful Spirits 75m out, relegating Mark Newnham's speedster to a fourth runner-up result this term. Another ex-Australian galloper, Casa Of Honor, was a distant third on his Hong Kong debut for Michael Chang Chun-wai.
Eustace forecast a bright future for Colourful King, a two-time Sandown winner in Australia when known as Blue Renegade.
'He'll keep getting better and better,' said Eustace, who is in the midst of a successful first campaign in Hong Kong with 24 winners.
'I'm mindful of that and I don't want to over-race him this year. As I've said before, I think he will get 1,200m but I wouldn't necessarily want to rush him there either.'

O'Brien wins record-extending 11th Derby with Lambourn
O'Brien wins record-extending 11th Derby with Lambourn Jockey Wayne Lordan rides Lambourn to victory at the Epsom Derby. Photo: AFP Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien won a record-extending 11th Epsom Derby as Lambourn put up an astonishing performance to lead from start to finish on Saturday. For O'Brien it completed an extraordinary two days as Minnie Hauk won the Oaks on Friday and his Jan Brueghel won the other Group One race the Coronation Cup. It is not the first time the 55-year-old has achieved the Oaks/Derby double, last doing it in 2020 with Love (Oaks) and Serpentine. Jockey Wayne Lordan was never challenged in winning his first Derby on his ninth ride in the race considered to be the 'blue riband' of flat racing. None of the other fancied horses landed a blow and it was two outsiders that were closest at the finish – Lazy Griff (50/1) was second with 28/1 chance Tennessee Stud, trained by O'Brien's son Joseph, third. "I knew I'd gone a good gallop, his ears were pricked and I knew he had plenty left," said Lordan. "He's a horse that we've always felt stays well so I just thought anybody that gets to me will have to stay well and it'd be tough for them." Lordan's career was in doubt a couple of years ago after a dreadful fall in the Irish Derby in which he suffered a fractured leg and elbow. Saturday, though, represented his biggest ever victory. "It's one of the greatest races," said the 43-year-old. "For any jockey that wants to start out, all they ever want to do is win the Derby and I work for Aidan, Ballydoyle, Coolmore so I'm in a lucky position that I get to ask for a horse like this." Postecoglou sacked by Spurs despite Europa League win
Postecoglou sacked by Spurs despite Europa League win Ending Tottenham's 17-year trophy drought was not enough to save Ange Postecoglou. File photo: AFP Ange Postecoglou was sacked as Tottenham manager on Friday, just 16 days after the Australian ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League. Postecoglou led Tottenham to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao to clinch the north Londoners' first European prize in 41 years and secure a place in next season's Champions League. But the Australian paid the price for Tottenham's worst domestic season since they were relegated from the top flight in 1976-77. "Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties," a statement on Tottenham's official X account said. Exactly two years after he was hired from Celtic, Postecoglou's eventful spell in north London was brought to an end by chairman Daniel Levy. Tottenham lost 22 of their 38 Premier League games to finish 17th in the table, above only relegated trio Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton. "The Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the club for a change to take place," the statement said. "Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the club's greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph." (AFP)

Brazil held by Ecuador in Ancelotti coaching debut
Brazil held by Ecuador in Ancelotti coaching debut It was a rocky start for Carlo Ancelotti in his debut for Brazil. Photo: Reuters Carlo Ancelotti's debut as coach of Brazil ended in a goalless draw in Ecuador in South American World Cup qualifying. The 65-year-old Italian, who left Real Madrid at the end of the European season, has been charged with taking Brazil through the latter stages of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The former AC Milan and Chelsea manager replaced Dorival Junior, who was sacked at the end of March after the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of reigning champions and bitter rivals Argentina. Thursday's result leaves the Selecao in fourth place in the qualifying table on 22 points while Ecuador, the surprise package in the campaign, remain in second place on 24 points. Argentina, who face Chile later on Thursday, lead the standings on 32 points and are the only team to have officially secured their place in the tournament which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Paraguay, who enjoyed a 2-0 win over Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay, sit in third place, level on points with Ecuador. Ecuador knew a win would put them on the brink of qualification and there was a packed crowd at the Estadio Monumental in Guayaquil. But the home side were dealt a blow just before kick-off when goalkeeper Hernan Galindez suffered a muscle strain in the warm-up and replacement Gonzalo Valle was hurriedly sent out to make his debut. If Valle had any nerves they eased when he did well to parry a shot from inside the box from Vinicius Jr. who had been set up by Gerson following a turnover. Chances were limited in a contest where neither side was able to get control of midfield. The pattern continued after the break with Ecuador, missing their injured striker and talisman Enner Valencia, struggling to pose a threat. Real Madrid star Vinicius was quiet for much of the game and with Rodrygo absent, Brazil also lacked potency in attack. The best opening came in the 75th minute when Vinicius broke down the left and cut back to Casemiro, but the Manchester United midfielder, recalled to the national side by Ancelotti, saw a tame side-footed effort easily dealt with by Valle. While there was no instant impact from Ancelotti, Vinicius, who played under the coach in Madrid, said he needed time to make his impact felt. "I'm very happy to have Ancelotti here with us, because I've always said he's the best coach I've ever worked with. Having the opportunity to work with him in the Brazilian national team is the best," the winger said. "He hasn't had time to show his work, his game plan, because he's only had two or three days of training," he added. A header from midfielder Matías Galarza just 13 minutes into the game and a late penalty from Julio Enciso earned Paraguay a crucial victory over a depleted Uruguay. The victory left Paraguay on the verge of securing their return to the World Cup for the first time since qualifying for the 2010 finals in South Africa. Victory in Sao Paulo on Tuesday against Brazil would secure their place in the tournament. The top six teams in the 10-team qualifying group head directly into the World Cup draw, while the seventh placed team must enter the inter-confederation playoffs. (AFP)
