Thai users misrepresent old video as 'demonstration against Cambodian leader'
"Cambodian protesters demand the return of the monarchy and ousting of its current leader," reads a Thai-language TikTok post published on June 10, 2025.
The attached video -- which amassed at least two million views -- shows a large procession of people waving Cambodia's national flag.
It was shared after Thailand and Cambodia agreed to reposition their troops in a disputed border area where a Cambodian soldier had been killed in a military clash on May 28 (archived here and here).
Parts of the video's suggest that the rally could be what "forced Cambodian soldiers to pull back" from the contested area known as the Emerald Triangle, where the borders of Cambodia, Thailand and Laos meet.

Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet said on June 15 that Cambodia had asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to help find a resolution to the long-running border dispute (archived link).
Thailand has tightened border controls, while Cambodia ordered troops to stay on "full alert" and banned Thai dramas from TV and cinemas (archived link).
Similar posts claiming the circulating video showed Cambodian protesters calling for Hun Manet's ouster were shared elsewhere on Facebook, X and YouTube.
But, as of June 16, there have been no official reports of protests calling on Hun Manet to step down in Cambodia.
A reverse image search using keyframes of the falsely shared video found the same footage was posted on Facebook on August 13, 2024.

Subsequent keyword searches led to a similar Facebook video that appears to show the same procession passing through the Phnom Penh factory, which was posted on August 18, 2024 (archived link).

The Funan Techo Canal is a controversial US$1.7 billion project that aims to provide a new link from the Mekong River to the sea (archived link).
Local media reported that the Cambodian government had announced a one-day national holiday to be held on August 5, 2024 to mark the official inauguration of the canal (archived link).
Several organisations held events to , which has drawn criticism over its funding and potential environmental impact (archived here and here).

Nine suspected migrant smugglers go on trial in France over boat deaths
Nine men went on trial on Monday, June 16, in France suspected of smuggling people on a small boat that capsized in the English Channel, killing eight passengers in 2022. Four people died and four went missing after the boat capsized a few kilometers from the English coast with only one of the bodies identified – an Afghan man. Rescuers saved 39 people from the shipwreck. The small boat departed France early on December 14, 2022, carrying people from Afghanistan, Albania, India and Senegal. The eight suspects – Afghans and Kurds aged between 22 and 40 – are being tried in the city of Lille in northern France until Friday, on charges of involuntary manslaughter by violating security obligations. Another suspect has not been caught and is being tried in absentia, with one other to go on trial separately later. According to the investigation, several people heard a loud bang that sounded like the boat had been punctured before the departure. The smugglers told the passengers not to worry and that the boat was the only one available for the crossing. But the sea was rough and there were not enough life jackets for all the passengers – those who died were not wearing any, according to the testimony of survivors. After one or two hours, the boat filled with water and panicked passengers stood up to get the attention of another ship, but the hull of the capsizing boat burst under the weight of the water. All the passengers fell into the freezing sea. According to the investigation, some of the defendants are suspected of recruiting the smugglers and organizing the logistics of the crossing. Others are accused of heading the operation at the Loon-Plage migrant camp in northern France, where the migrants lived. A Senegalese migrant who was steering the boat was arrested and jailed in Britain. Attempts to cross the Channel in small boats have increased since 2018, causing many shipwrecks. In November 2021, 27 people lost their lives in the deadliest such incident to date. At least 15 migrants have died in the Channel since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP tally based on official numbers. Weather conditions are often difficult in the body of water, which is one of the busiest in the world.

US warship reported heading toward Mideast as Iran, Israel fight
At 13:45 GMT, the carrier was traveling through the Malacca Strait toward the Indian Ocean, according to Marine Traffic, a ship-tracking site. A Vietnamese government official confirmed to AFP that a planned reception aboard the USS Nimitz on June 20, as part of the ship's expected June 19-23 visit to Danang, had been cancelled. The official shared a letter from the US embassy announcing that the Defense Department was cancelling the event due to "an emergent operational requirement." The US Embassy in Hanoi declined to comment to AFP, as did a spokesman for the Nimitz. The movement of one of the world's largest warships came on day four of the escalating air war between Israel and Iran, with no end in sight despite international calls for de-escalation. Israel's strikes have so far killed at least 224 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians, according to Iranian authorities. In retaliation, Iran said it had struck Israel with a salvo of missiles and warned of "effective, targeted and more devastating operations" to come. US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee on Monday said that Iran's missile barrage had lightly damaged a building used by the American embassy in Tel Aviv.

Iranian Nobel laureates, Cannes winner urge halt to Iran-Israel conflict
"We demand the immediate halt of uranium enrichment by the Islamic Republic, the cessation of military hostilities, an end to attacks on vital infrastructure in both Iran and Israel, and the stopping of massacres of civilians in both countries," said the activists in an op-ed in French newspaper Le Monde. The signatories included Nobel peace prize winners Shirin Ebadi and Narges Mohammadi, as well as the winner of the top prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Jafar Panahi, and his fellow director Mohammad Rassoulof. Iran's enrichment of uranium has for decades been a cause of tension with the West and Israel, which fear the drive is aimed at making an atomic bomb, a charge denied by Tehran. "We believe that continuing uranium enrichment and the devastating war between the Islamic Republic and the Israeli regime neither serves the Iranian people nor humanity at large," said the signatories who also included the rights activists Sedigheh Vasmaghi, Shahnaz Akmali and Abdolfattah Soltani. "Uranium enrichment is in no way in the interest of the Iranian people. They must not be sacrificed for the nuclear or geopolitical ambitions of an authoritarian regime," they said.
