
Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh leads Mizoram in celebrating International Day of Yoga 2025
Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], June 21 (ANI): Mizoram joined the global community in observing the 11th International Day of Yoga, themed 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', with a significant event held at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Mualpui, Aizawl on Saturday.
The ceremony, attended by approximately 700 yoga practitioners, was led by Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), accompanied by Lady Governor Bharti Singh. Organised by the National AYUSH Mission and the Directorate of AYUSH, the event exemplified unity and a commitment to holistic well-being.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), expressed his appreciation for the increasing number of people worldwide who continue to embrace yoga, a practice that originated in India and has now spread globally, transcending borders and cultures. The annual observance of the International Day of Yoga is a matter of pride and a significant recognition for India, he added.
He further highlighted that yoga promotes overall well-being by harmonising the body, mind and spirit and that different forms of yoga exercises are designed to enhance both physical and mental health in their unique ways.
The Governor elaborated on the significance and practice of yoga, stating that it encompasses physical fitness, stress relief, and mental clarity in a meaningful way.
He noted that practising yoga correctly not only leads to good health but also cautioned that improper practice could have negative effects.
He urged yoga enthusiasts to continue learning from experts and practitioners under the AYUSH Ministry. He also lauded Mizoram's impressive Air Quality Index, noting that its pristine environment fosters health and happiness, creating an ideal setting for promoting yoga in the years to come.
The event featured a live telecast of the Prime Minister's address from Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which inspired attendees.
Participants then engaged in the Common Yoga Protocol, guided by expert instructors, performing a series of exercises to promote physical and mental wellness. Dr. SR Ngurchamliana, Director of Hospital & Medical Education, Health & Family Welfare Department, concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the collective participation.
The Ministry of AYUSH designated ten signature events for International Day of Yoga 2025, with Mizoram hosting two: Yoga Sangam and Harit Yoga. Yoga Sangam showcased widespread participation, highlighting yoga's unifying appeal, while Harit Yoga integrated wellness with environmental conservation through tree-planting and cleanliness initiatives.
Across the state, tree-planting activities were conducted, with the Directorate of AYUSH distributing medicinal plant saplings to promote a sustainable future.
The theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' emphasised not only personal health but also environmental stewardship, advocating for a harmonious relationship with nature. Celebrations extended across Mizoram's districts, with tailored events at District Hqrs., Hospitals, Health and Wellness Centres, educational institutions, organisations and government departments, reflecting the state's dedication to this global initiative. PGI Champions Yoga in Healthcare At PGIMER, Chandigarh, over 3,350 participants—including doctors, faculty, students, and staff—joined hands in celebrating the day under the aegis of its CCRYN Collaborative Centre for Mind-Body Intervention through Yoga. Director Prof. Vivek Lal emphasized yoga as "the synchrony of inner and outer self," highlighting its role in nurturing physical health, mental clarity, and emotional resilience. Science Meets Tradition at PGI Certified trainers led the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), scientifically validated by PGI, with sessions also streamed live for residents on hospital duty. In her address, Sharma highlighted yoga as a treasured part of India's cultural heritage that has now gained global recognition. The event also featured a soul-stirring classical music performance by renowned artist Subhash Ghosh, adding a spiritual dimension to the celebration. Senior BJP leaders and government officers were also present. Kalka Embraces Yoga As Path To Wellness In Kalka, the day was celebrated at Government Postgraduate College, led by MLA Shakti Rani Sharma. Addressing the participants, Sharma shared the message 'Yoga removes disease', encouraging everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily routines for improved mental and physical well-being. Sharma drew parallels with ancient sages who lived healthy lives for over a hundred years through disciplined yoga practice. Yoga Day celebrations across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal
Chandigarh: The 11th was celebrated across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, with Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria leading the celebrations in Chandigarh and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann asking people to make yoga a part of their daily lives. Kataria called yoga a "people's movement across India". "It empowers an individual, strengthens communities, and offers a timeless solution to modern challenges," he said. Punjab AAP president Aman Arora performed yoga at an event in Sangrur. A yoga event was held at the joint check post in Attari, Amritsar, and BSF Punjab inspector-general Atul Fulzele was the chief guest. More than 1,100 participants, including BSF personnel, Army officials, students, local dignitaries, and residents of border villages joined the event. In Himachal Pradesh, governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said yoga was not related to any religion, but a holistic approach to health and consciousness. "People across the world have adopted yoga for physical health and now increasingly for spiritual awakening. Yoga is not just about physical postures; it is also about awakening and awareness," he said. A session was organised at Raj Bhavan in Shimla, where Shukla performed yoga along with other participants. Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also performed yoga at his residence, Oak Over. He described yoga as "a scientific and spiritual path related to the totality of life". The day was also celebrated at Army Training Command (ARTRAC), with participation by all personnel and their families. Goa joins world in Yoga Day celebration
Panaji: Goa joined the rest of the country and the world in marking the 11th International Day of Yoga , on Saturday, with a series of events across the state that saw participation from govt officials, public sector employees, civic bodies, and private organisations. From the defence establishments at Vasco to the Selaulim dam, the message of 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' echoed across the state. Chief minister Pramod Sawant delivered the state's official message on the occasion, calling yoga 'India's timeless gift to humanity.' Describing it as a global movement that fosters health, peace, and inner balance, Sawant urged people to adopt yoga as a way of life for a healthier and brighter future. 'Yoga connects us with ourselves, with nature, and with the world,' he said. Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai presided over a morning yoga session for the Raj Bhavan staff, including the secretary to the governor, Sanjeev Gauns Desai, at the Old Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan. The most picturesque location to mark the day was the Selaulim Dam, where monsoon clouds hovered above the serene waters in Sanguem.
