What is Weca and what does it do?

The Weca mayor is responsible for overseeing housing in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset
Here is a quick look at what the West of England Combined Authority (Weca) is and what it's responsibilities are.
Weca is made up of three different authorities:
Bristol
Bath & North East Somerset
South Gloucestershire
North Somerset is not currently part of Weca.
The authority is tasked with improving public transport, training and job opportunities, and supporting businesses.
It also oversees the region's housing plans.
These responsibilities have been moved away from central government, who will provide £30m a year towards Weca.
The authority is held by the Weca mayor - sometimes referred to as the Metro Mayor - and elections for the position are held every four years.
The Weca mayoral role was created as part of a devolution deal giving more decision-making to English regions rather than focusing power in Westminster alone.

Chelsea have also signed Liam Delap and Dário Essugo from Ipswich and Sporting Lisbon respectively over the past week. And those signings could potentially be joined by English wideman Gittens. As first reported by French outlet RMC Sport, the West London side have agreed on a seven-year deal with the 20-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have tabled a £29.5m bid - although it's believed they'll need to go higher - and hope to get a deal secured before the first part of the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday. Gittens, an England under-21 international, was actually at Chelsea as a youngster as well as a host of other clubs. He eventually found his way to Manchester City but quit the club in 2020 as he became the latest in a long line of promising English talents to move to the Bundesliga. He has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals - 12 of which came last season. Despite still having three years left to run on his deal, it appears he will now depart Dortmund if the two clubs can agree a fee. Gittens has a £50m release clause in his contract, but Chelsea are hoping to get it done for slightly less. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl admitted earlier this year that there was potentially interest in Gittens. He said: 'There's definitely a market for him. He's a very exciting player. We'll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we'll have to deal with them.' 'We want to reduce wages,' Kehl added. 'That said, it's possible we'll continue with some of these players. But some may no longer be part of the BVB squad next season.' Gittens will arrive at Stamford Bridge as a possible replacement for Jadon Sancho, who has departed the club after Chelsea chiefs decided not to sign him permanently following his loan. The West Londoners have decided not to activate a £25m clause in the deal, and have consequently paid a £5m penalty. In a statement on social media, the winger said: "Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home — teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, Thank you Blues." Sancho made 45 appearances across his season with Chelsea, scoring five goals and notching ten assists as Enzo Maresca's side won the Conference League. Patrick Stewart offers glimpse into how Rangers will approach first transfer window with Russell Martin and new owners

An initial £20million of investment has been promised and a share issue will follow to help raise more funds. With the Light Blues in Champions League qualifying action on July 22/23 and 29/30, the summer rebuild must start soon. We looked at how Martin could transform Rangers, in particular by recruiting trusted former players. Gers chief Stewart acknowledged there is a lot of ground to be made up on Celtic in the league, but believes Martin has arrived early enough for them to make signings before the Euro qualifiers next month. Speaking in an interview with Rangers TV, he said: 'There is a lot of hard work to be done, just to be clear. I think there always is every pre-season for Rangers because the European qualifiers come so early, so let's not shy away from that. 'That said, we have got Russell in and the transfer window doesn't open for another ten days and the first team don't return for another two weeks, so actually you could look at it glass half full and say we have got him in well in advance of those two key events. 'But let's not kid ourselves, there is a lot of hard work to be done but I know Russell is determined to get stuck into that. 'The potential of Rangers, we know it is unfulfilled at the moment. 'This is a huge club and supporters, players, management and staff, we have all been frustrated at not having achieved the heights. Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager 'It feels now though that we are making steps forward and new ownership is a massive step forward. 'My excitement and optimism levels have definitely increased but they were always there because there is so much that is positive about this club.' Stewart was asked how Martin's experience in both Scotland and England during his career will help them in the recruitment process. He said that combining Martin's knowledge with Thelwell's contacts book should lead to positive results in the transfer market. Stewart said that they will pay close attention to the Scottish and English markets, as players there will have an understanding of the British game. But that won't stop them from scouting players further afield - the only condition being that they must ALREADY be suited to playing in Scotland, rather than trying to mould them into the finished product. He said: 'Having an understanding of the Scottish game I would say is a key factor because every league is unique and we can look at some of the fixtures that have to be played as part of the SPFL. 'Every ground has its nuances and every club has its nuances, so somebody that comes in with an understanding of that is a huge asset. 'Equally, when it comes to recruiting players having a knowledge of markets outside of Scotland and players outside of Scotland, and off-the-pitch talent outside of Scotland as well, is a huge advantage.
