Microgravity research experiments proposed by IISc. and UAS Dharwad to be conducted on board International Space Station

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has shortlisted seven microgravity research experiments, which are expected to be conducted on board the International Space Station (ISS) during the upcoming Axiom-4 mission (Ax-4).
The upcoming Ax-4 mission, with Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, is the fourth private astronaut mission to the ISS. The mission is likely to be launched in May.
According to ISRO, it has shortlisted seven microgravity research experiments proposed by Indian Principal Investigators (PIs) from various national R&D laboratories and academic institutions for implementation on the ISS.
Of these R&D laboratories and academic institutions, three — Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Institute of Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (InStem), and University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad — are based in Karnataka.
The shortlisted seven microgravity research experiments are:

BLR strain in space by IISc Analyzing Human Interaction with Electronic Displays in Microgravity by IISc Effect of metabolic supplements on muscle regeneration under microgravity by Institute of Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (InStem) Impact of Microgravity on Growth and Yield Parameters in Food Crop Seeds by Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Dept. of Space & College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Kerala Agricultural University
According to ISRO, the field of microgravity research, with potential applications in diverse areas such as human health, physical and life sciences, material research, novel pharmaceutical development and biotechnology, offers significant opportunities to the national scientific community. These experiments will utilise available research facilities on board ISS.
The experience gained through this effort in implementation of these experiments is expected to nurture a microgravity research ecosystem in India resulting in the induction of advanced microgravity experiments in various disciplines in the Indian space programme.

As India sees a rise in Covid-19 cases, leading Indian biologist Dr. Vineeta Bal has said that the new variants currently in circulation are not serious to Dr. Bal, former scientist at the National Institute of Immunology, while new mutations of the virus are emerging and spreading, they are not causing the kind of alarm seen during earlier waves like parts of India are reporting an increase in Covid-19 cases, largely due to new sub-lineages of the virus. However, experts believe that this uptick is not linked to a rise in severity of illness or deaths. ICRISAT partners with IFFCO and BBSL to establish state-of-the-art Seed Research Hub in Gujarat

New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), and Bhartiya Beej Sahkari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) formally entered into a Tripartite Service Agreement to establish the Beej Anusandhan Kendra, a state-of-the-art research center in Gujarat, focused on advancing seed innovation and sustainable agriculture. Under this agreement, ICRISAT has been appointed as the Knowledge Partner responsible for developing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the center, the Hyderabad-based research Institute said in a release on Wednesday. This collaboration harnesses ICRISAT's global research expertise, IFFCO's cooperative leadership, and BBSSL's commitment to seed quality and sustainability, creating a strong foundation for impactful agricultural advancement. reinforcing the shared vision of all parties to drive agricultural innovation and seed research. The Beej Anusandhan Kendra (BAK), proposed to be built by IFFCO and operated by BBSSL, aims to foster sustainable agricultural growth through the integration of world-class seed research and development infrastructure. In its role as Knowledge Partner, ICRISAT will provide the scientific and technical expertise to define the center's specifications, core functions, and design framework.
