India vs England, 1st Test Live Score : Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant will be hoping to continue scoring freely against the English pacers and try and steer their team towards a massive first innings score, which should give them the best possible chance of moving into the lead in the five-Test series. For the Ben Stokes-led Englishmen, getting an early wicket or two will be the priority and they will be hopeful of restricting the visitors under 500.
Will India continue to bat the way they did on the opening day, and post a mammoth score on the board? Or will Ben Stokes and the rest of the Englishmen fight back with the ball? Stay tuned to find out.
Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are batting on 127 and 65 respectively, with the fourth-wicket stand between them currently worth 138. As for the bowling department, captain Ben Stokes has been the standout performer with 2/43 while Brydon Carse (1/70) got the first breakthrough for the hosts by getting rid of KL Rahul.
Day 2, however, isn't likely to be as sunny. There is a thunderstorm warning for Leeds on Saturday, meaning that while the day is likely to be interrupted, it is also expected to be overcast. According to Accuweather, however, the sun won't be completely hidden, and it might get quite warm in phases.
The opening day of the Headingley Test witnessed plenty of sunshine, which eased the wicket out a lot more quickly and helped create ideal batting conditions that Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and the rest of the Indian top-order capitalised on.
Gill celebrated his appointment as India Test captain with a fine century on the opening day of the Headingley Test. And in the process, he became only the fifth Indian to score a century on debut as Test captain after Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Virat Kohli – his predecessor at No 4.
Jaiswal had scored a staggering 712 runs in the five-Test series against England at home last year at an average of 89, collecting a couple of double centuries along the way. And to highlight just how much he loves batting against this time, he scored 101 in his maiden outing on English soil on Friday.
India vs England, 1st Test LIVE Score: India captain Shubman Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant will be hoping to continue from where they left off on Day 1 and steer their team towards a mammoth first innings total on Day 2 of the first Test against England in Headingley. Gill and Pant were batting on 127 and 65 respectively, with the Indian team ending the opening day of the first Test in a dominant position, with the scorecard reading 359/3 after 85 overs.
Gill and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had headlined India's dominant batting performance on the opening day at Headingley with centuries, with the latter producing a sparkling 101. Gill joined a select group of Indians who scoring a century in their maiden Test as captain, a list that includes Virat Kohli, while Jaiswal continued to shine against England, a team he had scored a staggering 712 runs against during the five-match home series last year.
Jaiswal had earlier got India off to an ideal start with a 91-run opening stand with KL Rahul, who chipped in with a patient 42. The pair appeared set to bat through the morning session when Brydon Carse got the breakthrough by having Rahul caught by Joe Root at first slip with an out-swinger.
B Sai Sudharsan, making his Test debut, came in at No 3 with Gill having moved to the No 4 spot. The Tamil Nadu batter, however, failed to open his account in his maiden appearance for India in whites, getting caught-behind off England captain Ben Stokes' bowling at the stroke of lunch.
Stokes, who had opted to field on what was a great day to bat, later got rid of Jaiswal, rattling his off stump with a beauty shortly after tea. Gill and Pant, however, held fort until the end of the evening session with an unbroken partnership worth 138 to ensure the visitors ended the day on a high.

Rishabh Pant vrooms past MS Dhoni's India record with scintillating century: 'Difference between sexy and silly'
India vice-captain Rishabh Pant began the five-match series against England with a bang as he completed his seventh ton in the longest format on Day 2 of the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. The left-handed batter mixed caution with aggression as he kept the England attack of Ben Stokes, Brydon Carsen, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir at bay. India vs England, 1st Test: Rishabh Pant smashes seventh ton. (Action Images via Reuters) With this century, Rishabh Pant now has the most number of hundreds as an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, going past MS Dhoni. The latter had six Test tons to his name while Pant now has seven. Pant is now on level terms with England's Matt Prior, Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara, South Africa's AB de Villiers and New Zealand's BJ Watling in the number of centuries scored as a Test wicketkeeper-batter. Also Read: IND vs ENG Live: Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill continue India's dominance The 27-year-old brought up his century off the bowling of Shoaib Bashir. He brought up the three-figure mark in 146 balls. Pant brought up the century with a one-handed six off the bowling of Bashir. Upon achieving the milestone, Pant soaked in the applause of the Headingley crowd. Moments later, he brought out the somersault celebration and the entire Leeds crowd erupted in applause and cheers. 'One of the best hundred celebrations I have seen in my entire life,' said Ian Ward on air. Coming into bat in the third and final session on Day 1, Rishabh Pant made his intentions clear as he danced down the track off the bowling of Ben Stokes to smash him down the ground for a four. This was just Pant's second delivery in the innings. 'Outrageous. There's a difference between sexy and silly. It is going to look sexy when it comes off and silly when it doesn't,' said Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports before the start of play on Day 2 while talking about Pant's shot off the bowling of Stokes. However, after hitting his second ball for a four, the left-hander went back into his shell as he displayed a full blockathon. However, once Shubman Gill completed his century, Pant decided to change gears, and he started to smash the England bowlers all around the park. Even in the last over of the day, Pant showed no hesitation in playing an aggressive aerial shot. The left-handed batter displayed his aggressive instincts and showed no hesitation in taking down the likes of Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes. Sunil Gavaskar's praise for Rishabh Pant On Day 1 of the first Test between India and England, Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Pant, saying he likes to dance down the track on the first few balls he faces as it makes him feel "free". 'It seems like that's how he plays. When he comes in to bat, on the second or third ball, he often uses his feet and hits a boundary. It makes him feel free and then allows him to play the way he wants," Gavaskar said during a segment on Sony Sports. "Over here, he's been measured in his approach, giving himself time out in the middle. But once he's in and the bowlers start to tire, that's when he begins to step down the pitch and really attack, hitting big shots, sixes, and boundaries," he added. India are completely bossing the first Test against England after being asked to bat. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone through a 91-run opening stand. Jaiswal and Gill then took the momentum ahead with their smashing hundreds.

You Wanted The Same Challenge ...: Dhruv Jurel Reveals What Yashasvi Jaiswal Told Him Before First Test
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's superb century at Headingley against England in the first Test of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy may have earned him plaudits on the field, but it was a post-match video shared by the BCCI that offered fans a rare, candid glimpse into the mindset behind the performance. The 23-year-old's 101 off 159 balls - featuring 16 boundaries and a six - was not just a stylish statement but a testament to grit. In challenging English conditions, with the ball seaming and swinging early on, Jaiswal dug deep, overcame painful cramps in both hands and stitched a crucial 129-run stand with new captain Shubman Gill. In a conversation with long-time teammate and close friend Dhruv Jurel, Jaiswal reflected on his preparation, pressure, and mental clarity that powered him to yet another milestone overseas. "When we were playing for India A, you told me you just have to score runs in England no matter what," Jurel said. "Even when the ball was moving a lot, you wanted the same challenge in the nets. I think that stubbornness is what makes you different. I've seen it since we were kids." Jaiswal responded, "You tell them. I don't do much. When I need to be serious, I stay serious. I focus on my preparation and try to keep my mind calm. That really helps me." "Whenever I come here, I just want to give my best for my team and my country," Jaiswal said. "I really enjoy practising alone and preparing myself. I try to make sure every ball I face in practice helps me when I'm in tough situations." Confidence. Patience. "Harshit Rana and Bumrah bhai were bowling really well. I wasn't scoring runs easily but I kept playing. That gave me a lot of confidence and belief that I can survive and get through tough phases." Jaiswal's hundred in Leeds has now made him the batter with a century in his first Tests in the West Indies, Australia, and England. Alongside him, Shubman Gill marked a memorable start to his Test captaincy with an unbeaten 127, showing poise and precision throughout. Rishabh Pant also brought his flair to the crease, remaining not out on 65 as India finished Day 1 in a commanding position at 359/3.
