Three lure woman to invest in crypto, defraud her of Dhs56,000 in Dubai
Three Asian nationals, one is a fugitive, defrauded a woman out of Dhs56,000 by tricking her into investing in cryptocurrency trading, so the Misdemeanour and Violations Court in Dubai sentenced two of them in their presence and the third in absentia to one month in jail, a collective fine of Dhs56,000, and deportation after serving their sentences, a ruling upheld by the Court of Appeals.
The incident dates back to March 2025 when a woman filed a complaint stating she had been scammed, explaining that she received a WhatsApp message from an anonymous person claiming to be a representative of an international cryptocurrency trading company, offering her an investment opportunity promising high returns in a short period. During interrogation, the victim added that the sender asked her to participate in a survey via Telegram and then he transferred Dhs30 to her bank account, then instructed her to watch promotional videos about the company and its potential for high profits.
After being convinced, she invested Dhs56,000, which was transferred to multiple bank accounts within the UAE but afterward, the perpetrator turned off his phone and blocked her.
A police man stated in the interrogation that a detective team identified two of the suspects, whose bank accounts were used in the scam. On being questioned, they confessed to receiving transfers from the victim after being contacted by the fugitive suspect via WhatsApp, who offered them Dhs200 per transaction to receive the funds and transfer them to cryptocurrency accounts.
One of the suspects admitted to receiving approximately 50 local transfers and depositing them into cryptocurrency accounts.

In support of his lawsuit, the plaintiff attached to his docket a copy of the traffic accident report and a copy of the supervising judge's decision to appoint a technical expert to investigate the issue and assess the cost of repair of the plaintiff's vehicle. The technical expert decided that the total repair costs of Dhs51,430 as incurred by the plaintiff were reasonable and in line with the extent of the damages resulting from the accident, assuming that he had bought original spare parts. As for the plaintiff's request for Dhs75,000 as a compensation for not being able to use his car for approximately 6 months from the date of the accident until the date of the actual repair of the car, the court estimated that a Dhs5,000 compensation for the material harms caused to the plaintiff due to the defendant's error would be sufficient.

Russian drone on Ukraine kills 5, injures 23
A Russian drone attack damaged apartment buildings in Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv, injuring 17 people, while killing 5 and injuring 6 in the northern town of Pryluky on Thursday. In the town of Pryluky, a one-year-old child and two women were among those killed, Viacheslav Chaus, the regional governor of Chernihiv, said on Telegram, with initial details showing six more injured and hospitalised. At least six drones were used in the overnight attack that damaged buildings in the town's residential area, Chaus said. Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate comment from Russia. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, tens of thousands of people have been killed, with large areas of eastern and southern Ukraine destroyed, and millions forced to flee their homes.

Mohammed Yaseen, Staff Reporter Dubai Misdemeanour Court fined a vehicle driver Dhs10,000 and suspended his licence for six months from the date of the ruling for causing the death of an electric bike rider on Marsa Drive Street. Court also ordered the driver to pay Dhs200,000 in full blood money (diyah) to the heirs of the electric bike rider. The incident dates back to January when Dubai Police received a report of a run-over accident in the Marsa Drive area. A policeman testified that he rushed to the scene and found the victim lying lifeless on the ground next to his electric bike, along with the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident. The policeman added that after inspection, it was determined that the vehicle driver was responsible for the accident as he entered the road without ensuring it was clear, colliding with the electric bike rider, who was in the correct lane. This was affirmed through an examination of the accident site and CCTV footage, the policeman added. On being questioned, the suspect denied causing the victim's death, claiming that the victim was riding his electric bike at high speed and was not wearing reflective clothing, making it difficult to spot him. The court found the suspect's fault proved, as he failed to exercise caution while driving, adding that by entering the road without ensuring it was clear, he collided with the electric bike, which was in its correct lane, causing severe injuries to the rider which led to his death.
