BBC Shropshire team takes red nose on Comic Relief hill tour
A team from BBC Radio Shropshire has begun a 12-hour challenge to reach the top of the county's three highest peaks, taking with them a huge Comic Relief red nose.Presenter Adam Green, newsreader Carlie Swain and producers Tim Barnes and Michaela Wylde set off shortly after 06:00 GMT on Thursday.They aim to conquer Stiperstones, Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee by 18:00, to help support the charity appeal.Reaching the first peak in the early morning sun, Green said: "We've done it. That's the best view we'll see for a long time!"
After descending from the summit and loading the "nose", a 5ft (1.5m) red ball stuffed with soft filling, into a van, the team met a cheering crowd at Clee Hill Primary School where they completed a mile-long (1.6km) relay on the school field.As pupils cheered "red nose, red nose" to greet the crew, headteacher Ceri Little said: "We have a running club at the school. Eight laps of the field is one mile so we're going to be following you round".
The challenge is the latest in a series undertaken by the presenter and his colleagues for the appeal in previous years.They have previously taken various forms of red noses up the Wrekin and around it in rickshaws. Green has also faced 1,000 penalty kicks and undertaken 24 different sports in 24 hours.

U.S. Open underway as Oakmont awaits tournament favourite Scheffler
OAKMONT, Pennsylvania, June 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Open began under partly cloudy skies on Thursday at challenging Oakmont Country Club where Bryson DeChambeau hopes to make a fast start to his title defence while tournament favourite Scottie Scheffler was hours from teeing off. Amateur Matt Vogt, a former Oakmont caddie and current full-time dentist who qualified for the U.S. Open last week, had the honour of hitting the tournament's opening tee shot from the par-four first hole. Two-times U.S. Open winner DeChambeau, who went close at the year's first two majors, will set out at Oakmont in the company of British Open champion Xander Schauffele and Spain's Jose Luis Ballester at 7:29 a.m. ET (1129 GMT). World number one Scheffler, who counts the PGA Championship among his three wins in his last four starts, will head out in the company of two-times major winner Collin Morikawa and world number 14 Viktor Hovland at 1:25 p.m. ET. Oakmont, a quintessential U.S. Open venue where punishing ankle-high rough frames narrow fairways that lead to slick greens, is expected to be a brutal test of skill, mental toughness and resilience this week. Rory McIlroy, who has struggled off the tee since completing the career Grand Slam of golf's four majors with his Masters win in April, is scheduled to start from the 10th tee at 7:40 a.m. ET in the company of Shane Lowry and Justin Rose. Notable players going out in the afternoon when temperatures at Oakmont are expected to reach 87 degrees Fahrenheit (30.6 degrees Celsius) are Dustin Johnson, who won the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.

Chelsea transfer target 'speeds away from training ground' as move collapses
Jamie Gittens was hoping to seal a move to Chelsea prior to the Club World Cup kicking off in the USA, but he has now been named in Borussia Dortmund's squad Chelsea transfer target Jamie Bynoe-Gittens appears to be less than impressed that his move to the Blues failed to go through before the Club World Cup deadline. England under-21 winger Gittens, 20, has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, and has been receptive to Chelsea's advances ever since the Premier League outfit firmed up their interest in a player who was briefly in their own academy. Chelsea have reportedly agreed a seven-year contract with the former Manchester City youngster, but on Tuesday they saw their £42million bid for his services rejected by Borussia Dortmund ahead of the 7pm GMT Club World Cup transfer deadline. The Bundesliga outfit then named Gittens in their 28-man squad for the tournament in the US, and he was filmed by a local reporter speeding away from the club's training ground having been left 'very frustrated' by the episode. The failure to sign Gittens completed a disappointing day for Chelsea, who have also failed in their move for the AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The 30-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join the Blues, and while Chelsea didn't register a bid they do still hope to make a move for him later in the summer, with Maignan having one year remaining on his Milan contract. Sky Germany also report that Chelsea failed to reach an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for their forward Hugo Ekitike, causing the Blues to pull the plug on a deal for him before the Club World Cup. Liverpool also remain interested in the Frenchman. Gittens will now hope that a switch to Chelsea can be resurrected later in the summer, and it will be interesting to note if he appears for Dortmund in their Club World Cup group stage matches against Brazil's Fluminense in New Jersey on June 17, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in Cincinnati on June 21 and Japanese outfit Ulsan HD, also in Cincinnati, on June 25. Chelsea's group stage fixtures are all one day prior to Dortmund's. The Blues begin their campaign against MLS side LAFC in Atlanta before facing Brazil's Flamengo and Tunisia's Esperance in Philadelphia.

Arsenal get Benjamin Sesko green light as star stands ground over £60m transfer
Benjamin Sesko was targeted by Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for a £60m switch in time for the Club World Cup, but that deadline has now passed and Arsenal could swoop in Arsenal will be able to proceed with a move for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko after the Slovenia international wasn't tempted to make a money-spinning switch to Saudi Arabia in time to play at the Club World Cup. Saudi outfit Al Hilal had settled on Sesko as their third target in the hunt for a big name forward to join Aleksandar Mitrovic in their squad for the tournament in the US this summer. But they had to complete a deal by 7pm GMT on Tuesday in order to register new players for the group stages. Al Hilal face Real Madrid in their Club World Cup opener next Wednesday, and they are hoping to use the tournament to prove that Saudi sides have made giant strides forward in recent years despite criticism of their Pro League. One of the key ways they are seeking to do that is of course cash, but Al Hilal failed in pursuits of Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres before Sesko, who is seeking to leave Leipzig this summer but would rather stay in Europe. Those forward snubs come after Al Hilal, who last week appointed Simone Inzaghi as their new boss, were also turned down by Bruno Fernandes, who opted not to join his Portugal team-mates Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves in Saudi Arabia and instead stay at Manchester United. Arsenal have been chasing Sesko for a year, and came close to completing a deal for the 22-year-old last summer. He has remained on their radar ever since, along with the in-demand Gyokeres and Newcastle hotshot Alexander Isak. And with interest from a wide range of clubs in Gyokeres and Isak commanding a fee of north of £100million, the Slovenian is seen as the easier player to sign. Leipzig failed to qualify for European football this season despite 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions for Sesko, and the Bundesliga outfit are now set to part ways with both the centre forward and attacking midfielder Xavi Simons in order to raise cash. Sesko could earn up to four times as much money at Al Hilal than he'd get at Arsenal, and a while a move there cannot be ruled out once the transfer window reopens again next Monday, the fact that he has rebuffed this interest looks to be a good sign for the Gunners.
