The bomb squad has carried out a controlled explosion after a 'potentially harmful chemical' was discovered at a high school yesterday (Tuesday). Pupils were evacuated from Denbigh High School on the advice of experts.
Police have confirmed a "successful controlled explosion" was carried out. A North Wales Police Conwy and Denbigh Rurual statement said: "We can confirm that the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Team have attended and has safely removed the items and carried out a successful controlled explosion.
"There are no wider safety issues and officers have now left the scene. Thanks to the local community for their understanding and patience whilst this matter was dealt with - diolch yn fawr iawn."
It follows after Denbigh High School issued an "important notice" to parents warning historical chemicals had been found on the premises. Students were asked to leave classes yesterday afternoon.
The Denbighshire school, which has around 500 pupils on roll, said it ordered an evacuation to safeguard everyone at the facility. It caters for pupils aged 11-18 years from Denbigh, St Asaph and surrounding villages.
In a statement issued via its social media media pages, the school said: 'We have had to evacuate the school building early this afternoon on advice due to the discovery of historical chemicals within the chemical store cupboard in the science department.
'This decision has been made to safeguard all members of the school community. Learners will be travelling home as normal (in 10 minutes) at the end of the school day.'
School heads said last night (Tuesday) on a Facebook post, it would be open as normal today.

At High School Tyler stopped playing sport and started experimenting with drugs before his behavior became erratic and concerning. His alcohol and drug use escalated and he was knownto police before he was involved in a $15,000 civil suit after injuring a child while driving his father's car in June 2010. In a final attempt to save their son before he turned 18, his parents sent Tyler to rehab but the teen was not happy. His uncle said: "That kid wanted his freedom, and he wanted to party... his parents were in the way, and he felt there was no way out." Then the sinister jokes began. Tyler told a close friend exactly what he was planning to do. The idea was horrific, he wanted to throw a party after murdering both of his parents. On the day of the murders, he posted an ominous message on Facebook: "Party at my crib tonight... maybe." Tyler hid his parents' phones and locked the family dog in the cupboard, then took three ecstasy pills and picked up a claw hammer. He killed his mother first, attacking her from behind while she was on her computer. Hearing her screams, his father asked his son "Why?" in shock. Tyler replied: "'Why the f*** not?" before attacking him. Tyler then moved their bodies to the master bedroom and cleaned up the blood, which was splattered all over the house and his body. He then invited around 60 people over to party - after placing an assortment of objects over the dead body. Tyler told several people at the party he had killed his parents and even showed his best friend, Michael Mandell, their bodies. But others there that night reported odd smells and sightings of spatters of blood around the house. Michael would eventually alert the police but not until the party had finished. Tyler was also caught on CCTV using his parents' stolen credit cards to buy alcohol and other supplies. Tyler was arrested early the next morning. His lack of remorse led prosecutors to argue his desire to throw a house party meant more than his parents' lives. Tyler pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree murder. He was initially sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. In 2018, he was resentenced as an adult to life in prison. Tyler continues to brag about his horrific crimes in prison, regularly signing autographs for fellow inmates with his self-proclaimed nickname, Hammer Boy. A prison guard also reported finding a hammer the 'Hammer Boy' had fashioned himself behind bars. Prison guard D. Johnson wrote in his report of the April 6 incident: "I discovered a homemade weapon fashioned from a piece of metal approximately 6 inches in length, sharpened to a point with a piece of cloth wrapped around one end to be used as a handle." Tyler was ordered to spend 60 days in disciplinary confinement, living in a solitary cell with limited privileges. State prison records show Tyler was also given an additional 30 days of confinement after a disciplinary hearing found that he had 20 unauthorized absences from a teaching assistant job. He refused to participate in his disciplinary hearings and refused to sign the violation forms, according to prison reports.

MTV's Ananda Lewis Dies at 52
Ananda Lewis, a former MTV VJ, has died at the age of 52. Lakshmi Emory, whom Lewis once described as a 'phenomenal sister' in a birthday message, shared news of her death in a June 11 Facebook post. 'She's free, and in His heavenly arms,' she wrote next to a black-and-white photo of Lewis. 'Lord, rest her soul.' Emory did not share additional details, including Lewis' cause of death. Lewis was an MTV staple in the late '90s, hosting 'Total Request Live' and video countdown show'Hot Zone.' She also hosted her own talk show 'The Ananda Lewis Show' in 2001. Lewis was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2019, but later revealed that she opted against the double mastectomy doctors recommended at the time. In a January 2025 op-ed for Essence, Lewis shared that she tried alternative methods to monitor her breast cancer, including cuting out alcohol, sugar, monthly ultrasounds, high-dose vitamin C IVs, hyperbaric chamber sessions and qigong exercise, among others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she discovered that her tumor had grown and underwent genetically targeted fractionated chemotherapy, which is a treatment that destroys cancer cells without harming healthy ones, according to Cleveland Clinic. However, a PET scan done in October 2023 confirmed that her cancer had progressed to Stage 4 cancer. This time, she shared that she underwent treatment at an integrative facility. While Lewis had previously said she regretted refusing to undergo mammograms out of fear of radiation exposure, she urged the importance of women getting informed and learning about prevention. In her 2025 Essence piece, she wrote, 'Going into 2025, I would say to women: Do everything in your power to avoid my story becoming yours. If I had known what I know now 10 years ago, perhaps I wouldn't have ended up here.' Adding, 'I encourage people to look at the information and studies that exist. Seek them out, learn from them and apply the changes to your life, so that you can continue to thrive and live as long as you can.'
