Hamdan bin Mohammed Launches 'Hewi Dubai' to Redefine Public Spaces and Reconnect Communities
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled the Hewi Dubai initiative, a bold effort to reimagine public spaces across the city by reviving the essence of traditional Emirati neighbourhoods in a contemporary, community-first design.
Announced in his capacity as Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Sheikh Hamdan described the initiative as a way to preserve and pass down the strong communal values Emirati families are built on.
Hewi Dubai aims to create welcoming, multifunctional public areas that foster social connection, support active lifestyles, and reflect the cultural identity of the city. 'These new spaces will be anything but conventional,'
Sheikh Hamdan said, highlighting the intent to redefine urban design with a human-centric approach rooted in heritage.
The first model under the initiative, Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4, is being developed by DFF in collaboration with Dubai Municipality. Located between a mosque and a residential community in Nad Al Sheba 4, the site was chosen for its walkability and authentic neighbourhood atmosphere.
Unlike traditional parks, Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4 has been co-designed with local residents and tailored to their daily lives. Features include Al Decha , a shaded social space for elders; Al Saaha , a versatile venue for community gatherings; and Al Yalsa , a family-friendly area overlooking a children's play zone.
Meandering paths and nature-inspired play areas encourage movement and interaction across generations, bringing the Emirati fareej spirit into the heart of modern Dubai. The initiative marks a step toward urban spaces that feel personal, inclusive, and reflective of Dubai's evolving identity.

UAE President waives nearly AED 140 million in debt for Emiratis
President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has cleared the debts of 222 Emiratis, totalling AED 139.87 million. Among the beneficiaries, 132 retirees will have debts exceeding AED86.476 million waived, while 90 citizens under the social support category are cleared of more than AED53.403 million. The initiative run by the Defaulted Debts Settlement Fund reflects the UAE leadership's commitment to social cohesion and the well-being of vulnerable groups. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah congratulates Bahrain on election to UN Security Council
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has congratulated Bahrain on its election as a non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. The Emirati official expressed his confidence in the Gulf country and the role its will play in 'promoting stability' and 'peace' at an international level, adding this historic diplomatic achievement reflects the tireless efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain and praised its "wise" leadership. Bahrain was elected alongside Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia and Liberia - all of which will serve two-year terms beginning in 2026. The 15-member council is responsible for international peace and security, consists of five permanent members - Russia, the US, UK, China, and France - and ten non-permanent members elected annually by the UN General Assembly to serve staggered, two-year terms. Votes are held The newly elected members will join five nonpermanent members whose terms conclude at the end of 2026: Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama and Somalia.
