Ben Simmons Announces Offseason Move After Clippers' Loss to Nuggets
The Los Angeles Clippers were eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Dropping a hard-fought seven-game series to the Denver Nuggets, LA was unable to continue what was an impressive finish to the 2024-25 regular season.
One of the midseason moves LA made to bolster its postseason push was the buyout market addition of former Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons. Acquired by Brooklyn in 2022 as part of the James Harden deal, Simmons spent three seasons with the Nets, but appeared in just 90 games.

Waived by Brooklyn in February, Simmons signed with the Clippers where he finished out the year.

In 18 games for LA, Simmons averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He fell out of Ty Lue's rotation during the playoffs, appearing in just five of the seven games, averaging 8.4 minutes per contest.
Now an unrestricted free agent, Simmons will have the opportunity to choose his next team. As he mulls over that decision, the 2016 No. 1 overall pick announced he is heading home to Australia to enjoy some of his offseason.
"Next stop," he posted on Instagram, adding Sydney, Australia as the location.

An Australian native, Simmons is one of 13 active NBA players born there (via Basketball Reference). Among Australian-born players, he ranks fifth in points, second in assists and third in rebounds.

For his career, Simmons has made three All-Star teams and two All-Defensive teams, but has been significantly limited by injuries in recent years. The 28-year-old will spend some time back home before deciding on his NBA future.

Former Wests Tigers playmaker Luke Brooks says it was the 'smart decision' for the club to part ways with Lachlan Galvin given the contract saga would have become a messy distraction for both parties if it was allowed to fester. 'I think the smart decision was made for them to part ways,' he told the NewsWire. 'It would have been a distraction if it went for another year. It's good for both parties. 'I don't know too much about what's going on, but looking at it, I feel like he's handled it really well for a 19-year-old. 'Not many guys that age can go through that with all the media pressure and so much noise going on. 'He still came out and played some good footy. There'll still be some news going on around him, but after a few weeks playing for the Bulldogs, hopefully that goes away and he can focus on playing good footy. 'He's a great player and he's a good young kid as well. Hopefully, it works out for him.' While Galvin has been the talk of the town lately, a man at the opposite end of his career has also been in the headlines with chat around whether Queensland captain Daly Cherry-Evans should keep his spot in the team. The veteran halfback has been a loyal servant for the Maroons throughout his illustrious career, but there have been calls for Tom Dearden to replace him following the game one defeat. Cherry-Evans put the disappointment behind him to star with three try assists as Manly bounced back to thrash the Broncos on Saturday night, with the skipper showing he still has it just days after copping a tough loss in Brisbane. 'When you have a big game like that (the Origin opener) and end up losing, I feel like you want to go out there and play straight away. He really led from the front,' Brooks said. 'To be doing what he's doing at his age by backing up three days later and then putting on a clinic, it just shows that he's a great player. 'There's been a lot of noise, so to put that to the side and put on a performance was great. 'I don't think the halves were the problem (for Queensland). They lost to a good Blues side, so whatever way they go is up to them. 'Hopefully, for his sake, he gets another crack.'

Nathan Lawson reckoned he had 80 family members and friends crammed into the grandstand at Jubilee Oval as the two-time Olympian made his NRL debut. But there was one person missing on Friday as the rugby sevens convert got his first taste of first grade action on the left wing in St George Illawarra's 20-6 win over Newcastle. Late last year, just before he was about to embark on one of his final sevens tour events - and weeks out from switching codes and landing at the Dragons - Lawson received the news that his mother, Karen, had died. "In December, we lost mum, that was hard, it was a week before I was meant to come down to Dragons," Lawson said. "So it meant a lot to me that all the boys and everyone at the club, who I didn't even know, went out of their way to support me. "For that to happen and for them to be so welcoming to me meant a lot. "She was my biggest supporter and would do anything to come watch me play. "She would travel across the world to watch me play so to be able to get a good win and make my debut, I'm sure she's up there very happy."
