Much Ado About Nothing: A gloriously giddy pink party – with dad dancing from Tom Hiddleston

This is more like it. After the wash-out of Jamie Lloyd's production of The Tempest, botching the grand return of Shakespeare to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, comes a bonkers but brilliantly inventive Much Ado that gives us (and Lloyd) something to smile about, providing a much-needed blast of fun and pop-saturated theatrical sun. Where Sigourney Weaver flopped as Prospero, Hayley Atwell and Tom Hiddleston have fans queuing for the stage door, not just because of their A-list allure (they're Marvel names, both) but because they're an assured hoot as Beatrice and Benedick.
True to form, Lloyd isn't giving us a traditional re-tread of the Messina-set rom-com. There's his standard use of headset mics to amplify the actors, and his customary stripping of the mise-en-scene to the barest essentials; in contrast to the deluxe auditorium, we see the vast, unadorned space.
But far from seeming cheerless, and déjà vu, the approach proves a fresh, unbounded joy. Freeing the action from studious naturalism, and ersatz social context, it's a teasing provocation, with loud klaxon honks jolting us too. The boldest stroke (design: Soutra Gilmour) is a sustained shower of pink confetti. It's faintly magical to behold, offsetting plastic chairs below; on another level, it chimes with the play's tragicomic mix of autumnal wistfulness – these stand-offish rivals in wit are almost at last-chance saloon – and amorous adventure.
That suggests that Lloyd has the thoughtful measure of the work but rather than impose his vision to an inhibiting degree, he trusts his crack cast to deliver the loose-limbed interplay. There are gimmicks galore but there's a knowingness to them that augments the feel-good energy and ensures that sincerity cuts through the image-conscious facades when it counts.
Atwell is at first sedentary and svelte in a brown jump-suit – a seen-it-all Beatrice, dispensing put-downs at the expense of Hiddleston's smugly assured charmer, who arrives with fellow booty-shaking entourage to the riotous sound of the Beastie Boys' Fight for Your Right (To Party!). Though stylish, too, in dark blue trousers and shirt, offset by a garish, glittery belt, he's pure peacock, prone to thumbs-up gestures and conspiratorial winks ('I am loved of all ladies' is purred to the honey-voiced hilt).
Hiddleston's game surrender to the carnivalesque spirit of the brisk night contributes to a rising, almost hysterical sense of OTT pleasure – we get cringe disco moves, attempted break-dancing, risible singing, even a flash of his six-pack. Hell, there's also a modicum ado about a card-board cut-out of Loki (there's a matching one of Atwell as Agent Carter too).
The gulling sequence is as funny as any I've seen, Hiddleston straining to hide himself in confetti, madly rolling upstage then getting submerged beneath a giant inflatable love-heart. That Atwell insinuates deep, dormant wounds at her own duping, and real pain at her cousin Hero's nuptial jilting by the air-headed Claudio, attests to top-tier talent. Lloyd outrageously ditches the tricky Dogberry and co carry-on, truncating the second half, but by this point, and definitely come the moment B&B clinch for some smooching TLC, you're too smitten to fret.

Chris Evans' Candid Reaction to Learning Robert Downey Jr. Is Playing Doctor Doom: ‘Huh?'

While the latest addition to the Avengers movie series will feature a mixture of current fan favorites, former actors reprising their superhero roles, and new faces making their debut, it'll also have a significant villain twist. Longtime Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the villain role, and will be Doctor Doom in the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday. While it's a noteworthy change for Downey, the casting decision drew rave reviews from fans. Many Marvel fans are happy Downey is back for the upcoming movie, although the decision to flip the high-profile actor from being a core member of the Avengers to the next villain they face was still surprising. One name that found himself on the "surprised" side of reactions when the news broke was another former Avenger and longtime Captain America star, Chris Evans. Evans recently sat down with Screen Rant alongside Materialists co-star Dakota Johnson to discuss their new film. However, the topic of Downey as Doctor Doom was understandably a talking point, and Evans revealed his candid reaction to finding out the news. Johnson asked the million-dollar question many fans likely initially wondered by saying, "He's a villain now?" This led to Evans explaining his own one-word response to hearing that Downey would play Doctor Doom, and offering an interesting food metaphor for clarity. "When I first heard it, I was like, 'Huh?'" Evans admitted. "But it's almost like cheese and the crust. You're like, 'There's nothing more we can do with this pizza,' and then you're like, 'Oh, damn. You know? What else? What if we did this? (makes flipping motion). Whoa.'" While a pizza metaphor isn't quite the direction I expected Evans to go, he deserves some credit for uniqueness. Evans has repeatedly said he will not reprise his role as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, with the shield officially being passed to Anthony Mackie. As for Mackie, he stepped into the role for the 2025 film, Captain America: Brave New Evans' Candid Reaction to Learning Robert Downey Jr. Is Playing Doctor Doom: 'Huh?' first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025

Fact Check: Marvel actor Wyatt Russell isn't in LA protest video, honestly

Claim: A video authentically shows actor Wyatt Russell speaking at a Los Angeles protest. Rating: Context: The man in the footage was a protester named Aaron Fisher. In early June 2025, amid protests over immigration raids in Los Angeles, a claim (archived) circulated online that actor Wyatt Russell spoke out against law enforcement and military personnel in the city. U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard into Los Angeles despite California Gov. Gavin Newsom's objections. In a video accompanying the claims, a person social media users identified as Russell — the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn who appeared in the 2025 Marvel movie "Thunderbolts*" — said in part: You feel tough with your assault rifles and your sticks. You should be standing here with us. You're on the wrong side of history. We know you got a job to do, but you took an oath to the Constitution, not to the fascists in the White House. One person shared the following post on X (archived): (X account @lesleyabravanel) The claim circulated elsewhere on (archived) X (archived) and Reddit (archived). Snopes readers also searched our website to find out whether the claim was true. However, the footage was miscaptioned. While the video was authentic, meaning it was not the product of artificial intelligence software or other digital manipulation, Wyatt Russell was not the person in it. Snopes confirmed the protester in the video is actually a man named Aaron Fisher. A spokesperson for Russell told The Independent, "This is indeed NOT Wyatt Russell, and we have been working to try and correct the mis-identification." A representative for Russell also confirmed the misidentification to Entertainment Weekly. Snopes reached out to a representative for Russell for comment on the misidentification and will update this article if we receive a response. In a post (archived) on June 9, 2025, an X user said they confirmed that the protester was not Russell but Fisher: Snopes reached out to Fisher, who confirmed to us that he is the person who appeared in the video. He provided the following statement via email: I found the mixup to be pretty humorous, and glad it helped to amplify the message. The proliferation of the words themselves, and the movement behind it, is what matters most. The deployment of the National Guard against the wishes of our Governor is dangerously un-American, and I will continue to peacefully protest in my community. Sommerlad, Joe. David Harbour Is More Than Ready for ‘Stranger Things' to Be Over

David Harbour has been acting professionally for over two decades—he was nominated for a Tony in 2005—but his big break came with Stranger Things. Harbour's portrayal of Sheriff Jim Hopper immediately endeared him to viewers, and over the show's run we've seen Hawkins, Indiana's top cop morph from boozy sad sack to strict but loving dad to supernatural beastie-fighting hero to Siberian prison escapee, plus a little romantic tension with Winona Ryder's character on the side. And since Stranger Things' debut in 2016, Harbour has parlayed his Netflix success to other starring roles; while his Hellboy was a bust, he also created a whole new kind of Santa Claus in the excellent Violent Night and entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Black Widow and Thunderbolts. He's also found success on the DC side too, starring in animated series Creature Commandos. While it doesn't seem like Stranger Things' filming schedule has held him back from adding to his filmography, he's clearly ready for the freedom he'll have once the show has aired its final batch of episodes. His schedule will be more open to new projects, of course, but he'll also be able to put Jim Hopper to bed for good. In an Interview Magazine chat with Scarlett Johansson, his co-star in Black Widow, he sounded grateful but weary. 'When I started I loved it so much. Buddies of mine who'd done TV shows for many years said, 'By season three or four you'll be running.' And I was like, Never! I love all these guys so much,'' he recalled. 'And then you get to a certain point where you're like, 'How much more story is there?' You're having to play a lot of the same beat, and there's a feeling where you're like, 'I want to take a risk. I want to do something that people haven't seen me do before.' So yeah, after 10 years, it's like, 'Okay.'' Later, he elaborated more on what it felt like to be so committed to Jim Hopper, in response to Johansson speaking about being locked into her Marvel character for months at a time and not feeling challenged (or able to change anything about her appearance). 'There'd be certain seasons where you feel like, 'I'm going to go in this different direction.' But … a piece of your psyche is occupied with this group of people and this storyline,' he said. 'I don't paint my nails, but I get that idea of 'I can't get a haircut' or 'I can't shave this freaking mustache.'' One of the post-Stranger Things Harbour projects we're most excited for is the Violent Night sequel, which Variety reported today just got a release date of December 4, 2026. Stranger Things returns November 26 to Netflix for the first four episodes of season five. The rest of the season rolls out December 25 (episodes 5-7) and December 31 (episode 8).
