Beware of TradingView YouTube channels giving false instructions that can steal crypto wallet

Straits Times05-05-2025

The police are warning members of the public about a fake TradingView YouTube channel.
The channel deceives users into executing malicious scripts as part of its instructions for the installation of the TradingView application, resulting in cryptocurrency wallets being compromised.
TradingView is a legitimate online platform used to chart and analyse financial markets, including stocks, forex and cryptocurrencies. It is downloadable as a desktop and mobile application via its official website.
Victims came across videos from the fake channel with instructions to install a purportedly official TradingView application.
As part of the installation process, victims were directed to download and execute Windows PowerShell scripts.
However, the PowerShell command was a malicious code that compromised the victims' cryptocurrency wallets.
Although the download appeared unsuccessful, a remote access trojan (RAT) was actually installed onto the victims' devices upon running the command.
This allowed scammers to access the victims' devices, resulting in the compromise of their cryptocurrency wallets.
Members of the public are advised to adopt the following precautionary measures to protect themselves:
a)Beware of fake/phishing websites: Avoid running unknown commands, especially from unfamiliar sources, clicking on unsolicited links or downloading attachments from unknown sources. Always verify the links with official sources to ensure you are accessing legitimate cryptocurrency platforms and only download applications from official platforms (e.g. TradingView's website and mobile apps from the official Apple app store or Google Play store). Be wary of fake social media accounts that impersonate official channels and of cryptocurrency opportunities that require upfront cryptocurrency payments, or sound too good to be true. If in doubt, avoid sharing the content with others and verify the information with trusted sources.
b) Use secure wallets: You should use secure wallets such as hardware wallets to store your cryptocurrencies offline as they are less vulnerable to online attacks. If you are required to perform frequent cryptocurrency transactions, use software wallets from reputable exchanges and ensure that they are updated with the latest security patches. You are advised to enable automatic updates, if available, or regularly check the exchange platform for new updates and install them immediately when available.
c) Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA): You should set strong passwords for your wallets and online accounts. Do not share your private keys, recovery or seed phrases with anyone, and store them in physical form in a secure location. Always enable 2FA for cryptocurrency exchange accounts, wallets, and other related services.
d) Monitor and review your accounts regularly: Regularly check your wallets and accounts for unauthorised transactions. Enable account activity notifications if they are available on the platform. Regularly review and revoke the use of high allowances by using blockchain explorers or wallet interfaces.
e) Stay updated and informed: Keep up to date with the latest security threats and best practices in cryptocurrency security through official and trusted sources.
If you are or suspect that you are a victim of cryptocurrency-related crimes, you are advised to do the following immediately:
a) Contact your cryptocurrency exchange to halt further transactions or freeze your account, if possible.
b) Review and revoke any suspicious token approvals using applicable wallet interfaces.
c) If a wallet's seed phrase is compromised, transfer all remaining cryptocurrencies in the compromised wallet to another wallet immediately.
d) Report the incident to the police. You may also report any fraudulent cryptocurrency phishing websites to the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore's SingCERT at singcert@csa.gov.sg or via the incident reporting form at https://www.csa.gov.sg/singcert/reporting . In addition, you may also report the incident to security@tradingview.com and support@tradingview.com.
If you have any information relating to such crimes or if you are in doubt, please call the police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/i- witness. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
If you require urgent police assistance, please dial '999'. If you are unsure if something is a scam, call the 24/7 ScamShield helpline at 1799 or download the ScamShield application to check, detect and block scams.

Who Is Anthony Thomas Reyes? Lovestruck Man Arrested After Storming Trump's Mar-a-Lago Resort with Indecent Proposal to Marry Kai Trump

A man climbed over the walls of former President Donald Trump's private Mar-a-Lago estate and made an indecent proposal to marry Trump's teenage granddaughter. Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, told authorities that he wanted to "spread the gospel" after being nabbed by the Secret Service just after midnight on Tuesday. The infatuated gatecrasher was arrested by Palm Beach Police and charged with trespassing. President Trump was in Washington, D.C., at the time of the incident, while his granddaughter, Kai Trump, was vacationing in the Bahamas. Reyes told authorities he had scaled the high wall surrounding Mar-a-Lago in hopes of finding Kai, who had just celebrated her 18th birthday the previous month. Lovestruck Gatecrasher Lands in Jail Kai, a teenage golfer, gained attention during Trump's campaign appearances and built a following online by sharing personal moments with her grandfather. She currently attends school in North Palm Beach and is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr., Trump's eldest son. Reyes also claimed he was looking for Trump to discuss "the gospel." This was not the first time the 23-year-old man from Texas had tried to enter the Mar-a-Lago property. Reyes had previously received a strict warning for trespassing on December 31, 2024, when Trump was at Mar-a-Lago. He is currently being held in the Palm Beach County Jail with bond set at $50,000 and has entered a not guilty plea. Since Trump's return to the White House, Kai has cut down on her social media presence. However, just three days ago, she posted a YouTube video highlighting a Bahamas getaway with her best friend and family. On Tuesday, she promoted the video on Instagram, ending a 10-day break from social media. In the video, Kai showcased her workout routine, visited a hair salon, and captured fun, heartfelt moments with her best friend during their trip. They shared meals with her mother, Vanessa Trump, and relaxed poolside with virgin strawberry daiquiris, enjoying the summer sunshine. Kai, the New Mar-a-Lago Star Staying true to her passion, Kai—an avid golfer who has committed to attending the University of Miami this fall—also squeezed in a visit to the golf course during the vacation. "I'm gonna hit some balls because why not," she said in the vlog. "Worked on my swing a little. It's beautiful. I'm not sure if you guys have ever been to Albany before... I love it." Her grandfather, who owns 18 golf courses worldwide—including 11 in the United States—also shares a deep love for the sport and often plays at his Florida clubs. Trump recently appeared in one of Kai's vlogs to talk about her future prospects of becoming a professional golfer. "I just wanna say that I play a lot of golf with Kai and she's a fantastic golfer," Trump said on camera. "She's a scratch player, which is amazing. I think some day in the not-too-distant future she's gonna be much better than scratch." However, the president made it clear that if they ever faced off on the golf course, there would be only one winner. "She's doing really well and she wins a lot of matches," he added. "And some day she'll be able to beat her grandfather, but I'm not sure when that'll be... it might be a long time!" Trump was seen laughing as his granddaughter playfully dared him to a one-on-one golf match. Kai's posts frequently receive an outpouring of support for her grandfather, with fans urging her to "relay messages" to the president and sharing their admiration.

Family of Colorado fire-bomb suspect taken into ICE custody, World News

The family of the Egyptian national charged with tossing gasoline bombs at a pro-Israeli rally in Colorado was taken into federal custody on Tuesday (June 3) and could be quickly deported, officials said. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a social media video post that ICE had taken into custody the family of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who lived in Colorado Springs and who federal officials have said was in the US illegally, having overstayed a tourist visa and an expired work permit. Noem said while Soliman will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, federal agents were also "investigating to what extent his family knew about this horrific attack - if they had any knowledge of it or if they provided any support for it." ICE did not immediately respond to a request for more details about the detention of Soliman's family. According to local media reports, Soliman's family included two teenagers and three younger children. FBI and police officials had said on Monday that the family has co-operated with investigators. The suspect told investigators he acted alone. The White House, in a social media post, said Soliman's family was in ICE's custody for "expedited removal" and that they "could be deported as early as tonight." Department of Homeland Security officials said Soliman entered the United States in August 2022 on a tourist visa, filed for asylum the following month, and remained in the country after his visa expired in February 2023. The Sunday attack in Boulder, Colorado, injured a dozen people, many of them elderly. The attack targeted people taking part in an event organised by Run for Their Lives, an organisation devoted to drawing attention to the hostages seized during Hamas' 2023 attack on Israel. Soliman, 45, told investigators that he wanted to "kill all Zionist people" but had delayed committing the attack until after his daughter graduated from high school, according to state and federal court documents charging him with attempted murder, assault and a federal hate crime. Police and FBI affidavits quoted the suspect as saying he took firearms training to obtain a concealed-carry permit but ended up using Molotov cocktails because his noncitizen status blocked him from buying guns. Soliman told investigators that he had learned how to make the fire bombs from YouTube. A police affidavit filed in support of Soliman's arrest warrant said he was born in Egypt, lived in Kuwait for 17 years and moved three years ago to Colorado Springs, about 100 miles south of Boulder, where he lived with his wife and five children. Federal and local authorities said at a Monday news conference in Boulder that Soliman had done nothing to draw law enforcement attention before Sunday's attack. He was believed to have acted alone, they said. An affidavit said the suspect "threw two lit Molotov cocktails at individuals participating in the pro-Israel gathering," yelling, "Free Palestine" as they ignited in the crowd. The attack was the latest act of violence aimed at Jewish Americans linked to outrage over Israel's escalating military offensive in Gaza. It followed the fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy aides that took place outside Washington's Capital Jewish Museum last month. [[nid:718651]]
