Swiss authorities cleared a village in the country's east over a potential rockslide, three weeks after a mudslide submerged a vacated village in the southwest.
Residents of Brienz/Brinzauls, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Davos, were being barred from entering the village because a rock mass on a plateau overhead has "accelerated so rapidly that it threatens to collapse," a statement from local officials said Monday.
Farm work in the area was also being halted, and livestock owners moved their animals out of nearby pastures due to early warning signs on Sunday.
Authorities said the region is closely monitored by early-warning systems in the town, which is no stranger to such evacuations: Villagers had been ordered out of Brienz/Brinzauls in November and in June two years ago - before a huge mass of rock tumbled down the mountain, narrowly missing the village.
The mountain and the rocks on it have been moving since the last Ice Age. While glacier melt has affected the precariousness of the rocks over millennia, local authorities say melting glaciers due to "man-made" climate change in recent decades hasn't been a factor.
The centuries-old village straddles German- and Romansch-speaking parts of the eastern Graubunden region and sits at an altitude of about 1,150 meters (about 3,800 feet).

Southwest monsoon covers Gujarat in two days, heavy rain expected today
Ahmedabad: In a major leap, the southwest monsoon covered the entire state in a matter of two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the onset of the monsoon in the state, with the entire south Gujarat and parts of coastal Saurashtra on June 16, a day after its normal onset of June 15. On Tuesday, the IMD announced that except for the northernmost parts of Banaskantha, the entire state was covered by the monsoon. The normal coverage takes place around June 30, as indicated by the IMD map. The southwest monsoon further advanced in parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and some parts of Bihar. The northern limit passes through Deesa, Indore, Panchmarhi, Mandla, Ambikapur, Hazaribagh, and Supaul, as stated in the IMD bulletin on Tuesday. The state has a monsoon trough and a low-pressure area active, as indicated by the IMD forecast. On Tuesday, 208 out of 252 talukas of Gujarat received at least 1mm of rainfall, as indicated by State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) data. Barwala in Botad received the highest 191mm of rainfall till 8pm, followed by 160mm in Sayla in Surendranagar, 138mm in Botad, 135mm in Muli in Surendranagar, and 128mm in Jodiya in Jamnagar. In all, eight talukas received more than 100mm of rain, and another 22 received more than 50mm of rain, according to SEOC data. Almost all regions of the state received widespread rain. The city's maximum temperature dipped to 27.6°C, 10.6 degrees lower than normal. At 25.5°C, the minimum temperature was 1.9 degrees lower than normal. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature could be around 32°C, indicated the forecast.

Chandigarh: Pre-monsoon showers brought much-needed respite to the sweltering Tricity on Tuesday. The monsoon is expected by Sunday or Monday. "Pre-monsoon activity has started in Chandigarh. The monsoon has reached Bihar, following which it will reach western Uttar Pradesh. If the current system continues, the monsoon will arrive in Chandigarh on June 22 or 23. However, if it gets stuck in Bihar or UP, then it may be delayed," director, Chandigarh Meteorological Department, Surender Paul, said. According to the Chandigarh weather department, the monsoon arrives three days to a week after pre-monsoon showers begin, depending on the weather system. The transition from pre-monsoon to monsoon depends on progressive shift in wind patterns (from easterlies to south-westerlies), humidity levels, temperature drops, increased cloudiness, and sustained rainfall. With the monsoon arriving eight days ahead of schedule in Kerala, there is already a forecast of early monsoon in the Tricity.
