British mountaineer scales Mount Everest for record 19th time
A British mountain guide has scaled Mount Everest Sunday for the 19th time, breaking his own record for the most ascents of the world's highest mountain by a non-Sherpa guide.
Kenton Cool, 51, from southwest England, scaled the 29,032-foot peak on Sunday along with several other climbers. He was doing well and on his way down from the summit, said Iswari Paudel of Himalayan Guides Nepal, which equipped his expedition.
Cool first climbed Mount Everest in 2004 and has been doing it almost every year since then.

He was unable to climb Everest in 2014 because the season was canceled after 16 Sherpa guides were killed in an avalanche, and again in 2015 when an earthquake triggered an avalanche that killed 19 people. The 2020 climbing season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Hundreds of climbers and their guides are on the mountain during the popular spring climbing season, hoping to scale the world's highest peak.
Many of them have already succeeded while more are expected to make their attempt before the climbing season closes at the end of this month, when weather condition deteriorates with the coming of the rainy monsoon season, making climbing difficult.
Only Nepali Sherpa guides have scaled the peak more times than Cool.
The highest number of climbs of Mount Everest is 30 times by Nepali Sherpa guide Kami Rita, who is also on the mountain currently and is expected to make the climb in the next few days.

It was O'Brien's third consecutive win at the showpiece race. 'Wayne gave him him an incredible ride," O'Brien said. 'Everybody knew what he was going to do, he's very straightforward, Wayne knew he'd stay so he went forward." Lambourn was sired by 2014 Derby winner Australia, who in turn was sired by 2001 victor Galileo. 'It's incredible for everyone that we trained Australia to win the Derby and his sire as well, Galileo. I'm just a small part of it, everybody puts in so much, I can't tell you what a privelege it is," O'Brien said. Tottenham set to part company with women's coach Robert Vilahamn
Tottenham Hotspur are set to part company with women's team head coach Robert Vilahamn. The decision follows on from men's team head coach Ange Postecoglou leaving Spurs, just 16 days after winning the Europa League final. Advertisement Vilahamn was appointed in July 2023 from Swedish Premiership side BK Hacken, and led Spurs to a top-six Women's Super League (WSL) finish and the club's first-ever FA Cup final, which they lost to Manchester United, in the 2023-24 campaign. The 42-year-old Swedish head coach subsequently signed a three-year contract extension through to 2027 at the north London club. However, this season saw a downturn in results with a 10-game winless run from January seeing Spurs recording an 11th-place WSL finish, just one place from the foot of the table and relegation. Spurs picked up just three points from their final 10 WSL matches of the season to finish second-from-bottom and 10 points above relegated Crystal Palace. Vilahamn and Postecoglou shared similar Spurs path Vilahamn joined Spurs in the same summer as Postecoglou and their reigns followed similar trajectories. They both enjoyed promising debut seasons before everything unravelled in the second year. Advertisement Spurs finished sixth in the WSL under Vilahamn in the 2023-24 campaign and reached the FA Cup final which they lost 4-0 to Manchester United. Spurs lost several key players in the summer of 2024 including Grace Clinton and Celine Bizet. Clinton returned to her parent club Manchester United following a successful loan and Bizet joined them permanently too. Spurs endured a dreadful start to the season as they only won one of their opening five games. They were unbeaten for four matches across December and January but have been awful in the second half of the campaign. Vilahamn's side lost five matches in a row, including being thrashed 5-0 by their north London rivals Arsenal. They have not won a game since a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace on January 26.
