There Aren't Redos in the ER

'New Rules for Grading Gain a Foothold' (U.S. News, May 13) discusses Joe Feldman's belief that students should be able to retake tests and redo assignments, with no penalties for late work and no rewards for attendance or good behavior.
Students educated under such a system are going to be in for a rude awakening when they get out into the real world and find that they get fired for turning in their work late. They don't get to redo the operation when a patient dies. And they don't get to try again when the plane crashes.
