Teacher claims trial to sexual assault on four pupils

KUDAT (Apr 28): A primary school teacher claimed trial in a Sessions Court here on Monday to eight charges of committing sexual physical assaults against four pupils.
Lowoyon Elod Jiviol, 33, who appeared before judge A. Akhiruddin @ Boy Acho, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
The indictment provides for a jail sentence of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
Lowoyon was accused of committing the offences on the two boys and two girls at a school between 7.30am and 8am between December 30, 2024 and January 3.
The court released Lowoyon on RM2,000 bail for each charge and with one local surety.
His case will be mentioned back on May 14.
Lowoyon was represented by counsel Sylyester Kuan.
Meanwhile, 38-year-old man pleaded not guilty in a Magistrate's Court here on Monday to causing hurt.
Elbie Andrew, who appeared before magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
The alleged offence carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Elbie was alleged to have injured a 37-year-old victim at a building at Batu 2 Keramat here at 1am on November 29, 2019.
The court fixed June 23 for pre-trial case management.
Elbie was released on RM1,700 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

Shafee files police report on behalf of Najib over 'royal addendum'
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has filed a police report, on behalf of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, against former attorney general Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh concerning the issue of the Royal Addendum, Sinar Harian reports. Muhammad Shafee, who is Najib's lead counsel, told the Malay language daily that he was instructed by Najib to file the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Monday (June 16). "Previously, Najib had sought permission to file a police report either from within prison or with the assistance of prison authorities to make a report at the Kajang district police headquarters. "However, the request did not receive a positive response. Therefore, he instructed me to file the report," he said on Monday. Shafee said that the report was filed against Ahmad Terrirudin under Sections 204 and 209 of the Penal Code. "The offences alleged in the report are related to the Royal Addendum. I will not comment further as this report is an investigation document," he told Sinar Harian. Earlier, on May 29, Shafee revealed that Najib had not received any response despite seven letters being sent to confirm the existence of the Royal Addendum. At a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Shafee explained that the letters were sent to the then Attorney General, Ahmad Terrirudin, the Home Affairs Ministry, and the director-general of Prisons. However, he said that there was no response or confirmation that the letters had been received by any of the relevant parties.

PwD man sentenced to 10 years, 10 strokes for attempting to sodomise disabled boy
The accused is led away after sentencing. – Photo by Hafizah Abdul Hamid KUCHING (June 16): A 43-year-old person with disability (PwD) was sentenced by the Sessions Court here today to 10 years in jail and 10 strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old disabled boy. Judge Zuraidah Zakaria convicted the accused on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, and also ordered him to undergo one year of police supervision upon his release from prison. The offence was committed at a house in Siburan at around 8am on March 2 this year. According to the facts of the case, the accused—an acquaintance of the victim's father—entered the family's house unnoticed and attempted to sodomise the boy in a room. The victim's younger brother witnessed the act and alerted their elder sister who was in her own room. She rushed to the victim's room and shouted at the accused, who fled the house but left behind his bag which contained his identity card. The sister then informed their grandfather of the incident and he filed a police report which led to the arrest of the accused. Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Fadzri Azham Zainudin prosecuted the case, while the accused was not represented. During a previous proceeding on March 12, Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman granted an application by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff to refer the accused to Sentosa Hospital for psychiatric observation for a month, as the accused was reportedly mentally unstable and has learning disabilities. Ganja resembling belacan, chocolate, and keropok lekor seized
KANGAR: Belacan, chocolate bars and keropok lekor — these familiar favourites turned out to be a cover for a pungent plot here. The drugs, valued at RM9,238, were found in the possession of a 21-year-old Thai national who was arrested while attempting to board the Electric Train Service (ETS) heading south from Bukit Keteri Railway Station. Perlis police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said the incident took place at Bukit Keteri railway station after police received information regarding a Thai man carrying cannabis who was planning to board the ETS. "Based on the information received, our personnel from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Perlis police contingent headquarters went to the station and successfully identified the 21-year-old suspect. "The man was believed to be waiting for the ETS heading south, and upon inspecting the backpack he was carrying, we found 27 plastic packets containing green plant material suspected to be cannabis, weighing 2.98 kilogrammes and valued at RM9,238," he said. Muhammad said preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was paid more than RM1,000 by the syndicate to deliver the cannabis via the ETS. "The cannabis was shaped and packaged to resemble shrimp paste, chocolate bars, and raw 'keropok lekor' in an attempt to fool the authorities during inspections. "The supply is believed to have been sourced from a neighbouring country, with Perlis used as a transit point before being distributed or sold in southern states. "The suspect's modus operandi involved delivering drug supplies from Thailand into the country on demand, for a fee of RM1,500," he said. Following this, police arrested another suspect, a 25-year-old local man in Alor Setar, who is also believed to be involved in the drug distribution syndicate. "Initial drug screening on the main suspect found him positive for methamphetamine. A background check revealed he has four prior criminal records related to drug offences. "The total amount of drugs seized in this case could serve approximately 29,870 drug addicts," he said. Muhammad said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until this Thursday to assist with investigations.
