Supercross 2025 results: 450 highlights, finishing order, at Denver, Chase Sexton wins, narrows title gap
Chase Sexton entered Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, aware that he was not in control of his fate for the first time in the 2025 season. The only thing he could do was win the race and keep the pressure on Cooper Webb. When he first walked the track on Press Day on Friday and saw the whoops, he knew he could do his part. Sexton has outperformed Webb in this section all season.
Sexton was in contention for the top spot during the first lap, but was forced to be conservative at the end of the first rhythm sections when Malcolm Stewart cross-jumped Cooper Webb and forced Webb to cross-jump Sexton. That fired Sexton up. In post-race interviews, he said he 'saw red', which incidentally was the color of Webb's gear in Denver. When Sexton caught Webb for the lead on Lap 4, Sexton made his bike wide, bumped Webb slightly, and surged into first place. From then on, Sexton didn't look back and ultimately scored another dominant win — this time at 8.624 seconds — to keep his championship hope alive.

Webb led the race's first three laps despite battling an illness throughout the day. When Sexton caught and passed him, he knew finishing second would put him in a solid position entering Salt Lake City, but he had Stewart and his teammate Justin Cooper to contend with in the late stages of the feature. When Cooper got into third, he was less enthusiastic to pass Webb than Stewart had been, and Webb gutted out the final three laps to finish second.
Webb needs 16 points next week to clinch the title, which means he can finish anywhere sixth or better. In 16 rounds of 2025, Webb has finished worse than fourth only once when he was eighth in the second Anaheim race.

Cooper was a good teammate and did not pressure Webb overly in the final three laps, knowing that the two points he would take from Webb would change the clinch scenario for Salt Lake City. He also had Stewart to worry about, as both riders seriously wanted to score their third podium of the season. Cooper held onto the spot and finished third to earn back-to-back podiums for the first time in his career.
Stewart grabbed the holeshot with the Webb and Sexton battle developing around him. Webb chose a better line through the bowl turn leading to the finish jump and took the top spot on Lap 1. Sexton got around Stewart on Lap 2, but Stewart did not allow Webb to gain much distance on him. Meanwhile, Cooper was slicing through the field and caught Stewart with three laps remaining. He kept the pressure on Cooper and Webb, but nearly spun out in the final corner and settled for fourth.
Aaron Plessinger finished fifth and scored his eighth top-five of the season. He is 16 points behind Stewart in the contest to finish among the top five in Supercross points.

Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Hangtown: Jett Lawrence wins overall, Eli Tomac Moto 1
The potential for a perfect season came to a rapid end in Moto 1 of the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California, after a slow start and excessive heat relegated Jett Lawrence to a third-place finish, but he surged to the top of the leaderboard in Moto 2 and earned the overall victory with a 3-1. The Moto 1 loss was one of the few times Jett has been beaten in head-to-head Pro Motocross competition, and the third time he lost a moto on this track. A hard crash in the 2024 Hangtown race dropped Lawrence to 24th in Moto 1, and the effect of that accident contributed to a sixth-place finish in Moto 2. He rebounded immediately to score the overall victory in the next three rounds with four moto wins and a pair of second-place results. Aaron Plessinger lost track of the time on the clock late in the first moto and slowed, allowing Eli Tomac to blast past. Once he realized his mistake, the lost momentum was enough to put him in the clutches of third-place Jett. He was fortunate to fend off the 2023 Motocross champion and finish second in Moto 1. A third-place finish in Moto 2 after a fierce contest with Hunter Lawrence gave him the second position in the overall standings. Advertisement Justin Cooper replicated his career-best moto finish in the second race of the Hangtown Motocross Classic, but a fourth-place result cost enough points to relegate him to third in the overall standings. Cooper finished third in two rounds last year, at Thunder Valley and Spring Creek. As well as Moto 1 went for Tomac, the second race was the polar opposite. He got bumped coming out of the gate and entered Turn 1 in last place. Tomac charged through the field and was challenging for fifth with a realistic opportunity of catching up to second-place Cooper when he tucked a wheel and crashed. Tomac remounted in 12th, regained three positions to finish ninth, but the damage was done. He missed the podium by two positions (about 16 seconds) on the track. Hunter was part of last week's incredible podium that featured three riders returning from injury, but the effects of his shoulder problems in Supercross may not be completely gone. He rode well and swept the top five, but results of fifth in Moto 1 and fourth in Moto 2 combined to place him fifth overall in the standings. Offense remains a mystery to Giants as Padres win with a 10-inning shutout
Perhaps we might have anticipated such an evening at Oracle Park, where the San Francisco Giants played host to division-rival San Diego. Neither team is scoring much but both are still sticking around in the NL West. The Giants entered the day with a better run differential, despite the Padres' high-profile lineup, and both teams have strong pitching. Logan Webb was tops in that category Monday, turning in eight shutout innings, but the Padres eked out a 1-0 win with a bunt and a sacrifice fly to send in the placed runner in the 10th inning against Ryan Walker. The Giants had their own chance with placed runner Jung Hoo Lee, and Christian Koss moved him to third with a bunt, but Matt Chapman hit a 109.7 mph grounder, the hardest hit ball of the night, at third baseman Jose Iglesias for the second out and Jerar Encarnacion, just off the injured list, lined out to first against Robert Suarez at 101 mph. "Extremely hard hit," manager Bob Melvin said of the final two outs. "Really, the last couple innings were probably our best at-bats throughout the course of the game, we smoked some balls in the later innings." Entering the day, San Diego was in second place, two games behind the Dodgers but with a plus-15 run differential, while the Giants were three games back with a plus-42. Webb allowed six hits, walked none and struck out seven while lowering his ERA to 2.55, and he is starting to look like a legit All-Star candidate to go along with rotation-mate Robbie Ray. "I think that's the best I've ever seen him," catcher Patrick Bailey said. Using his slider more often than usual, Webb was especially tough the few times the Padres had men in scoring position, striking out Tyler Wade with men at the corners and one out in the second — and Bailey turned it into a double play, throwing out Jake Cronenworth trying to steal second as Wade took his hack. The next inning, with runners at second and third, Webb got DH Manny Machado to pop up a 3-1 sweeper to end the inning. Three players took pitches off their hands Monday, including San Francisco first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., who exited the game after the inning. Wade has had a miserable season, batting .167 with a .271 on-base percentage, and the team activated Encarnacion earlier in the day, giving them three potential options at first, with Casey Schmitt and Wilmer Flores also available, though all three are right-handed hitters. Melvin said that Wade had an X-ray and was diagnosed with a right hand contusion. When Stephen Kolek also added Flores to his hit-batter count in the third, the typically impassive Flores pointed at Kolek and barked a bit, even as Kolek tapped his chest to say 'my bad.' The umpire crew huddled, then home-plate umpire Ryan Willis and crew chief Lance Barksdale had a chat with San Diego manager Mike Shildt. There were no more HBPs from that point on. The Giants didn't lack for baserunners, they just couldn't do anything with them, especially in the second, when they loaded the bases in the second with no outs (their robust attack: walk, hit batter, walk). Stephen Kolek got Tyler Fitzgerald to bounce into a force that erased Willy Adames at the plate and Heliot Ramos to hit into a double play. The next inning's double play came courtesy Chapman. In the seventh, the Giants put together another stirring rally (walk, walk, walk) but with two outs, Jeremiah Estrada struck Lee out on three pitches, and in the eighth, with a chance to give Webb a W, the team had men at second and third after a Flores hit, an intentional walk to Adames and a wild pitch, but Schmitt struck out. The team went 1-for-12 with men in scoring position. In the past 10 games, they're batting .116 with runners in scoring position and have scored just 18 runs. "I know we're going to step it up eventually," Bailey said. "Obviously we have hit a lot of balls hard off one of the best pitchers in the game and it just doesn't go our way." Chapman did provide one of the few fun moments of the night with a leaping catch in the seventh that robbed Cronenworth of a hit.
