Shubman Gill is new captain of Indian Test Team. (Photo: IANS) Ahead of his first major assignment, new Team India skipper Shubman Gill will address the media for the first time on Thursday evening. Gill has been appointed by the BCCI to replace retired Indian Test skipper Rohit Sharma for the five-match Test series against England beginning at Headingly in Leeds on June 20. Along with Gill, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir will also be speaking to the media at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai from 7pm IST on Thursday. Team India Test squad, apart from those who have reached early for the India 'A' vs England Lions matches, will depart for London in the wee hours of Thursday night. This is India's first Test series in the new World Test Championships (WTC) cycle which runs from 2025 to 2027. After reaching back-to-back WTC finals, India failed to qualify for the WTC 2025 final which will be played between Australia and South Africa at Lord's from June 11. Gill will be leading a new-look Indian squad with stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both announcing their retirement from Test cricket last month. Veteran Karun Nair is making a comeback into the Indian side after his impressive performances in domestic cricket. Nair warmed up with a double century for India 'A' against the England Lions last week. Meanwhile, England announced a 14-member squad for the 1st Test at Leeds on Thursday, which will be led by all-rounder Ben Stokes. The five-match series between India and England will begin at Headingley followed by Edgbaston, Lord's and Old Trafford and the final Test will be at the Kia Oval in London. India, who have not won a Test series in England since 2007, have sent several members of the Test squad ahead to play for India 'A' against the Lions. : – … !
