Paria Veisi: Woman who disappeared after leaving work died of stab wounds, coroner told
A woman who disappeared after leaving work died of stab wounds, a coroner has been told.
Paria Veisi, 37, was last seen alive leaving her work, a week before her body was found at a property in the Penylan area of Cardiff on 19 April.
Alireza Askari, 41, has been charged with Ms Veisi's murder, preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body, and assaulting a person occasioning them actual bodily harm.
An inquest into her death was opened on Thursday where the provisional cause of death was given as stab wounds to the neck and upper chest.
Area coroner Patricia Morgan passed on her condolences to Ms Veisi's friends and family and told South Wales Central Coroner's Court that she would adjourn the inquest until police investigations have concluded.
"On the basis of the evidence that has been set out to me this morning, I have reason to suspect that her death might be violent in nature," she said.
"I have been informed by South Wales Police that there is an ongoing investigation and on that basis, I suspend the inquest until I am informed the criminal proceedings reach their conclusion."
After Ms Veisi was reported missing, South Wales Police said that she was last seen leaving her workplace in the Canton area of Cardiff on 12 April.
She was driving her black Mercedes GLC 200, which was later discovered on Dorchester Avenue, Penylan.

Askari appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on 22 April alongside Maryam Delavary, 48, from White City Estate, west London.
She is accused of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body and conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
A four-week trial is scheduled to start in October.

Ballymena riots: Families flee 'locals' venting their feelings
Here we go again. It was not long after 8pm when a police announcement over a tannoy mounted on their armoured vehicles reverberated around for all to hear. "Force is about to be used against violent individuals," blasted from the speakers as locals, some masked, stood waiting for action. "You better be filming this," one man said as we captured the scenes for Sky News amid a growing sense from locals that the police were being heavy handed in their tactics. And then officers, holding their shields, surged forward as people edged back. The move seemed to further anger the residents who had gathered, almost goading them as tensions ran high. The pace of clashes was slower on this, the third night of conflict. But it was nevertheless just as ugly and messy. Eyewitness: Soon came the baton rounds, the firebombs, the water cannon. Those pelting the police seemed unfazed as they were battered with plastic bullets in return. The watching crowd cheered the rioters on. Police chiefs earlier defended their operation. A senior officer insisted he did have "a grip" on the unravelling situation when questioned by Sky News. The increased presence of officers was felt on the ground and was clear to see. The soundtrack of sirens swirled around this town once again as police lurched from incident to incident as pockets of violence flared up. Officers are on their way from Scotland, England and Wales to help bolster resources. And they won't be short of work. A leisure centre 25 minutes away in Larne came under attack on Wednesday evening after it emerged some of the foreign families fleeing the Ballymena chaos were being temporarily held there. A short drive around Ballymena's one way road system takes you on a journey through housing estates where people have flooded the streets with union jack flags and stuck yellow A4 sheets to their windows with the words, "LOCALS LIVE HERE". These colourful displays are being seen as a public noticeboard of the nationality of the occupants inside each home. A deterrent to make the angry mob to look elsewhere. And those failing to advertise whether they are a 'native' or not seem to be paying a price. I witnessed an upper floor flat with a window smashed, the guttering on fire and the ground outside ablaze. An older neighbour fled her home downstairs in her dressing gown. Earlier in the day two Romanian women were frantically examining their phones down an alleyway as their kids played on the trampoline in the garden. They were terrified and were bundling their belongings in the car and leaving for good. A sizeable chunk of people born in Ballymena are angry. They do not like the talk from police and politicians that taking to the streets following an alleged sex attack on a teenage girl equates to them being "racist thugs". They see this as an act of venting their feelings. And they are hellbent on continuing this campaign of carnage across Northern Ireland to ensure they prove their point.

Court shown footage of alleged Hainault sword attacker unboxing samurai weapon
Police have released video footage of the alleged killer of a 14-year-old boy unboxing a samurai sword and calling the weapon "freaking sexy". Marcus Monzo, 37, denies murdering teenager Daniel Anjorin and attempting to kill four others during a 20-minute rampage in Hainault, east London, on 30 April last year. Jurors at the Old Bailey have been shown a four-minute video clip from 4 April, which was recovered from his iPhone after his arrest. The Spanish-Brazilian national, from Newham in east London, appears to be reviewing a sword he says was "handmade in Japan" and "took more than a month to reach me". Dressed in a yellow hoodie, black shorts, toe socks and flipflops, and wearing headphones, he is standing on black mats next to a ginger cat he calls the "Wizard". A martial arts-style punching bag and another sword on a skateboard can be seen in the background. "This just came through… Ninja stuff," he says before opening a long box containing a sword. "So I'm sort of obliged to do some ninja stuff with the Wizard." Monzo also says "freaking sexy" and "ooh" as he lunges and makes different moves with the sheathed sword. The court has previously heard Monzo was a "talented martial artist". Prosecutors said he "killed and skinned" his cat before driving his grey Ford Transit van at speed into pedestrian Donato Iwule. He then struck him in the neck with the same weapon used to kill Daniel, who suffered "essentially a near-decapitation", the jury was earlier told. PC Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield was also repeatedly struck with the 60cm blade, before Monzo entered a nearby house and attacked a couple inside, then struck another police officer, it is alleged. Monzo has pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing an offensive weapon - a katana sword and a tanto katana sword. He denies charges of murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent, aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article. Man chased on tarmac at Heathrow Airport near moving aircraft
A man has been filmed being chased on the tarmac at Heathrow Airport before being apprehended. The individual, who was wearing something wide around his waist, was seen running away from at least four other men within metres of moving and stationary aircraft. The chase appeared to last around a minute before a van arrived with two people in fluorescent tops, and the man stopped running. He was later pulled to the ground. Several seconds later, a police van arrived. The man was then put into the back of the vehicle. A Heathrow spokesperson said: "Working with partners, we have quickly resolved an incident at the airport involving an individual who accessed the airfield taxiway. "The individual has been removed from the airport. The airport continues to operate as normal and passengers are travelling as planned."
