Spaniard Pepe Reina is set to call time on his prolonged career on Friday as the goalkeeper will play his final game for Serie A side Como when they take on Inter Milan.
The 42-year-old decided to call time on his career, which has witnessed him stand as custodian for English heavyweights Liverpool and Italian giants Napoli. Reina took to social media to pen a touching farewell letter recounting his best memories during his extended stint in the beautiful game.
It has been much longer than I ever dreamed, yet it feels so short that I'd live it all over again. With only three days left until the 'last dance', so many emotions, people, and memories come to my mind, and all I can do is sum them up in one huge THANK YOU.

'It has been much longer than I ever dreamed, yet it feels so short that I'd live it all over again. With only three days left until the 'last dance', so many emotions, people, and memories come to my mind, and all I can do is sum them up in one huge THANK YOU," Reina' post began
'My heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who crossed my path, the greatest treasure of this profession. I carry a piece of each of you with me, and I won't forget that you've all helped me experience this genuine privilege of a career as a footballer," the statement continued.
'I'm proud and at peace with every moment I've experienced, the tough ones because they taught me, and the good ones because they've made me extraordinarily happy," the shot-stopper added.
'I thank God for blessing me with a family who is responsible for every good thing that's happened to me; even a lifetime wouldn't be enough to repay them. See you soon. New projects are coming, and football runs through my veins… I couldn't understand life without it. Warmest regards. Pepe Reina," he concluded.

England stunned by Senegal, Thomas Tuchel faces first defeat as coach

Boos rang out as England left the field after a 3-1 loss to Senegal in a friendly Tuesday which marked the first defeat of Thomas Tuchel's tenure as coach. Senegal recovered from conceding Harry Kane's early goal to become the first team from Africa to record a victory over England. We're not going to panic. But for sure we know we need to do better, England captain Kane told broadcaster ITV and suggested England had lost that aggressive nature that we've had. In World Cup qualifying Tuesday, the Netherlands beat Malta 8-0 and Austria beat San Marino 4-0. England's landmark lossKane was the only player retained in Tuchel's starting lineup from last week's 1-0 win over Andorra, which had caused Tuchel to criticize his team's attitude. The changes brought little improvement. Kane's record-extending 73rd England goal gave his team the lead in the seventh minute, when he bundled in after a goalkeeping error by Edouard Mendy. Senegal was a step above over Tuchel's previous England opponents Albania, Latvia and Andorra, and England conceded for the first time in his tenure in the 40th minute. Nicolas Jackson chased down a long pass and hooked it back for the onrushing Ismaila Sarr to score after having outpaced Kyle Walker. Senegal's second goal followed a long ball to Habib Diarra, who seemed to be attempting a pass of his own when the ball deflected in off goalkeeper Dean Henderson's leg. Jude Bellingham thought he'd leveled the game for England with a goal at a corner in the 84th but it was ruled out for an earlier handball by Levi Colwill. Senegal made it 3-1 when Cheikh Sabaly finished off a counter in stoppage time. Depay ties a Dutch recordMemphis Depay tied the scoring record for the Netherlands men's national team with two goals in the eight-goal win over Malta. Depay scored in the ninth and 16th minutes for his 49th and 50th goals, equaling a record set by team great Robin van Persie. Depay hit 50 goals in his 102nd game for the Netherlands, while van Persie's 50th came in his 101st game in 2015. In other World Cup qualifiers in Europe on Tuesday, Romania won 2-0 against Cyprus, Serbia beat Andorra 3-0 and Latvia drew 1-1 with Albania. Finland's game against Poland was suspended because of a medical emergency with Finland leading 2-1. The game later resumed.

Yograj Singh Told Vinod Kambli: 'Stop Partying, Smoking, Going With Girls'

Last Updated: Yograj Singh revealed Vinod Kambli's reply to him, saying: "I am the king now" Vinod Kambli's downfall, once touted as the future of Indian cricket, serves as a cautionary tale of how unchecked glamour can derail a promising career. His appearance at the Ramakant Achrekar memorial in Mumbai some time back saw Kambli trying to get the attention of his childhood friend, Sachin Tendulkar, highlighting his struggles and sparking public concern for his well-being. Following the event, Kambli, diagnosed with various health issues, received support from India's 1983 World Cup-winning team for his rehabilitation. He was hospitalised soon after, and he has since been discharged from Thane's Akruti Hospital. Vinod Kambli has since stayed out of the public eye and is understood to be on the path to recovery. Kambli's impulsiveness has been well-documented amongst his contemporaries, with many former teammates from both the Indian and Mumbai teams possessing numerous anecdotes. Former India pacer Yograj Singh recently recounted a conversation where he cautioned Kambli about his lifestyle during his prime. Despite being warned about the detrimental effects of excessive partying, smoking, and romantic entanglements, Kambli remained unmoved. 'I once told Vinod Kambli to stop the parties, smoking, and relationships with women. I warned him that continuing this way would lead to his downfall. I spoke to him personally, but he responded, 'This is glamour. I am the king.' That is why I say, no one is bigger than the game," Yograj was quoted as saying by InsideSport. Vinod Kambli made his Test debut against England in 1993, scoring his first half-century in the second match at Chennai. What followed was extraordinary. In the next two Tests, Kambli dominated the English bowlers, scoring 224 at the Wankhede Stadium and then a further double-century, 227, at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly Feroz Shah Kotla). Kambli's exceptional form continued with consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka in Colombo, at one point even surpassing Sir Donald Bradman's average of 99.94. Kambli's average had exceeded 100 with his remarkable batting. While he added a few more half-centuries to his Test record, his achievements plateaued. First Published: June 11, 2025, 16:16 IST

Man City sign Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan on five-year contract

Manchester: Manchester City have announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders on a five-year deal. The 26-year-old Netherlands international joins from AC Milan, where he has spent the last two seasons. An energetic yet classy operator capable of playing in an attacking or defensive role, Reijnders was named Serie A's Best Midfielder in 2024/25. That accolade came after netting 15 goals in 54 games, more than doubling his previous best tally in a single campaign. "I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City. City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles, and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years. "It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it's an inspiration to follow in their footsteps. I am really looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do," said Reijnders. Before moving to Milan, he made his professional debut at PEC Zwolle in his homeland ahead of becoming a regular at AZ Alkmaar. Since first truly making his mark at AZ in 2020/21, Reijnders has amassed extensive experience at both club and international level. After making his senior Netherlands debut in 2023, he played all six games at Euro 2024 as his nation reached the semi-finals. He is now available for selection for Man City at this summer's FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. "We are very happy that Tijjani has joined us, and we're excited for him to join Pep's squad. He arrives here with extensive top-level experience in Europe both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands. Tijjani adds extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield and working with Pep and our coaches will only see him go from strength to strength,' said Director of Football Hugo Viana
