Chinese national pleads guilty to causing death of Sabah Court Director

SIBU: A Chinese national pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court here to dangerous driving that resulted in the death of Sabah State Court director Marutin Pagan on March 30 this year.
Sun Xue Song, 42, entered his plea on Friday (May 16)during the pre-trial case management before Magistrate Oon Kork Chern, who recused himself from further hearing the case due to his personal acquaintance with the deceased.
"Accordingly, the case is hereby rescheduled for reassignment before His Honour Tuan Rosli Ahmad, Sessions Court Judge of Kuala Lumpur," Oon said.
The case was now fixed for the presentation of facts and sentencing on June 10 this year at 9.30am in the jurisdiction of the Sibu Magistrates' Court.
The accused has been ordered to be further remanded.
Sun had initially entered a not guilty plea on April 7, when the charge was first read to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.
He was accused of driving a sport utility vehicle dangerously, causing Marutin's death at the Kanowit roundabout near Sibu at around 1pm on March 30 under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Mark Kenneth Netto, while the accused was represented by lawyer Terence Tiong. – Bernama

The raid saw 12 suspects taken into custody. The authorities explained that the group were producing and distributing – as well as live-streaming – pornographic content. Rath Sreang, commander of the Municipal Gendarmerie, explained that the operation took place on Wednesday (June 4) at a flat located along Street 242, in Prampi Makara district's Boeung Prolit commune. The 12 suspects included six Chinese nationals, five Cambodians and a Malaysian. Computers, condoms and a range of sex toys were seized during the raid. Sreang said the 12 suspects were sent to court on June 6. It was unclear how long they had been producing pornographic content for. He confirmed that he ordered the raid, in coordination with Seng Mengsrun, deputy prosecutor at Phnom Penh Municipal Court. The Kingdom's Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation explained that anyone who possesses, distributes, sells, rents, displays, screens or publicly shows pornographic images shall face a term of imprisonment of from 7 days to 1 month and a fine of 100,000 to 200,000 riel (US$25 to US$50). The production of pornographic images or materials carries a prison term of from 1 month to 1 year and a fine of 100,000 (US$25) to 2,000,000 riels (US$500). Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old jobless was jailed six years and fined RM2,000 in default three months for causing hurt to his son with a wooden stick. Shahmar Asecio pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Marlina Ibrahim, to the charge against him. Advertisement He hurt to his 16-year-old son by hitting him with the wood at 11.30am on June 2, this year at a house in Kg Baitam Laut, Membakut. The offence is framed under Section 324/326A of the Penal Code. The court ordered Shahmar to serve the jail sentence concurrently with the sentence for another offence. In mitigation, Shahmar who was not represented asked for a lenient sentence. Advertisement However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Afiqah Alya urged the court to impose a heavy sentence to deter and give a lesson not only to Shahmar but public at large from committing such offence. The court heard that while the son was in the kitchen Shahmar came from behind and hit him with wood on his shoulder, head and right leg. The victim's mother then tried to stop Shahmar who suddenly took a machete and threatened the victim with the weapon. KOTA BELUD: Four men aged between 20 and 50 were arrested in separate raids across several villages in the district for suspected involvement in the processing and sale of ketum juice. Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Kota Belud District Police Headquarters (IPD) conducted the raids from May 24 to June 5. Advertisement He said the arrests were made following intelligence gathering in Kampung Taun Gusi, Tampasuk 1, Kampung Suang Punggur, Kampung Pintasan and Kampung Ambong. 'The first arrest involved a man at a house in Kampung Pintasan at 11.30am, along with the seizure of eight bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice. 'In the second raid at 3.25pm at a house in Kampung Taun Gusi, a man was arrested along with 24 bottles, each containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice,' he said. On June 5, a raid was conducted at a house in Kampung Ambong where another two men were arrested along with 10 bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice. 'Further investigations revealed that the ketum juice was sold to customers at RM25 to RM30 per bottle,' he said.
