Mercedes' George Russell will start fourth, with the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton fifth. Kimi Antonelli starts sixth and Charles Leclerc begins from seventh. One man who will not be racing today is the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, due to pain in his hand and wrist that will need surgery. He suffered a wrist injury as a result of a bike accident in 2023 and his team have confirmed his absence for today.
'Over the course of the past six weeks Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is in relation to the procedure he underwent in 2023,' Aston Martin said. 'As a result his medical team have confirmed that he will not race tomorrow and he will undergo a procedure to rectify these issues before focusing on his recovery.'
Last year Norris started on pole but dropped to third after turn one as Russell swept around the outside to go from P3 to P1. Verstappen, who has four wins around this circuit including his maiden win in F1, started second but won the race, his fourth time around this circuit, and polesitter Norris came home to finish second.
