Donald Parham's first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers is likely over before it begins.
Parham tore his Achilles during OTAs on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Specifics of the injury aren't known, but he's now likely to miss all of the 2025 campaign.
Parham signed a one-year, $1.17 million deal with the Steelers this offseason. He got his start with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he played sparingly over the past four seasons after going undrafted out of Stetson.

The 27-year-old is coming off a career campaign, however, and would have likely played a decent role in the Steelers' offense this fall. Parham had 285 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 27 catches last season in Los Angeles.
The news came shortly after reports that the Steelers had renewed conversations with Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract. The possibility for a trade between the two organizations is now still alive, according to Schefter, which makes sense if Parham is out. Smith had a career-high 884 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 88 catches last season in Miami while picking up his first Pro Bowl nod.
While the tight end situation is in flux — the Steelers still have last year's starter Pat Freiermuth available, too — it's far from the biggest piece missing from the Steelers' offense. The team is still waiting on free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to make his decision, which feels like it's down to them or retirement at this point. There is no timetable for Rodgers' decision, either. If Rodgers doesn't move to Pittsburgh, the team is likely looking at Mason Rudolph leading their offense.
The Steelers went 10-7 last year, though they lost in the first round of the playoffs for the fourth straight time. They'll open the season against the Jets, Rodgers' former team, on Sept. 7.

Pittsburgh has already been active on the trade market this offseason with the addition of DK Metcalf and the departure of George Pickens. Metcalf cost the Steelers a second-round pick and the Pickens trade involved an additional seventh-round pick in exchange for a third-round and fifth-round pick. Now, the Steelers have the opportunity to add Smith to an offense with Metcalf, Robert Woods, Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson at running back, alongside a future Hall of Famer at quarterback. Advertisement Not to mention, Smith has a connection with the Steelers new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Smith coached the tight end in Tennessee, and then was his offensive coordinator. Three years later, Smith was the head coach of the Falcons with the current Dolphins' tight end playing for him. Arthur Smith and Jonnu Smith have plenty of experience together, which is a main reason the Steelers are such a viable trade target for the Dolphins tight end. The proposed trade idea by Bleacher Report's Kurt Benkert for Smith to the Steelers had the Dolphins getting a fourth round pick in return. However, in his other six trade proposals, the Dolphins were getting a mix of fifth or sixth round picks in return. This seems more like the accurate price for the veteran tight end, but it'll ultimately come down to how much the desired team values Smith. Advertisement With all of this being said, it's not a done deal that Smith gets dealt. His agent has said Smith would love to play in Miami in 2025, and Mike McDaniel said he wants Smith on the team. Ever since their dominance of the 1990s, they've served as the poster franchise for taking risks on players with questionable pasts. Three of the most recent second-chance players all found themselves in booking photos over a 72-hour period. On Thursday, it was reported that Greg Hardy, signed in 2015 after a domestic violence arrest, had been arrested on Wednesday afternoon or alleging assaulting a family member. In the early hours of Saturday, Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Also in the early hours of Saturday, recent second-round pick Kelvin Joseph was arrested after being involved in a fatal car crash. While some have tried to paint the NFL in a bad light when it comes to arrests, the reality is they have a lower arrest rate (2.5 k per 100,000) than the general public (4k per 100,000) does. It's only that every arrest of an NFL player makes headlines. And while it may seem like the Cowboys have a greater share of NFL arrests than other clubs, that's more than likely because their reputation precedes them. Hardy, most famously, signed a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the Cowboys after his 2014 arrest led to his release from the Carolina Panthers. He did not get along well, consistently missing meetings and clashing with the coaching staff and fellow players. No team signed him after that and he eventually turned to being an MMA fighter to try and capitalize on his athletic nature. His career lasted from 2018 through 2022, when after losing three straight matches was released from the UFC. Jones signed with Dallas in 2008, after being suspended by the league for 2007 after two seasons in Tennessee. He played just nine games before being suspended, as he was involved in a fight with the bodyguard Dallas assigned to babysit the player. After sitting out 2009, he rejuvenated his career in Cincinnati, playing eight seasons for the Bengals, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and a Pro Bowl the following year. Jones, 41, was booked just before 2 a.m. Saturday into Kenton County jail, according to the court log. He was arrested by the Covington Police Department and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and assault of a police officer or a probation officer. Jones posted a $10,000 bond and was released around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Other details regarding the arrest were not immediately made available. Saturday's arrest in Covington, which is directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, marks at least the fourth time since 2021 that Jones has been arrested. He has now been booked on a public intoxication charge three years in a row. Joseph, part of the Cowboys' 2021 class that brought them Micah Parsons and Osa Odighizuwa, was traded away before 2023. he had been arrested for his participation in a fight outside a bar that led to a murder. For the Ravens to take another step in the right direction and get back to the AFC Championship Game, the backend of their defense will need to take a few steps of their own. We know there isn't much to worry about with Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton. The latter has missed a few OTA sessions, but there's a lot of optimism in the tandem he will form with a newly-acquired and highly-touted rookie. Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr has a ton of faith in his starting safety duo. The first three seasons of Kyle Hamilton's career were good enough to inspire the potential envy of NFL stars who are five years his senior. He earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers Association's All-Rookie Team in 2022. He has only gotten better since then. A member of the past two Pro Bowl rosters, he earned a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2023 before being named a Second-Teamer in 2024. One star alone, however, does not an elite safety tandem make, so Baltimore found an answer and an upgrade during the first round of this past April's draft in Malaki Starks. Saying defense coordinator Zach Orr is excited would be a massive understatement. This past week, he expressed his expectation for Hamilton and Starks as a duo. The NFL is a long way from college football in terms of level of competition, but Starks looks like a sure thing. Baltimore is hoping his skill set translates to the highest level of football. During his time in Athens with the Georgia Bulldogs, he was named a Freshman All-American and became a College Football Playoff National Champion. He was a Consensus All-American in 2023, a First-team All-American in 2024, and has two First-Team All-SEC (2023, 2024) to show for his trouble. He's used to playing in big games. He's certain to play in several this season, and fortunately for him, though the pressure to perform will come quickly, he doesn't have to do everything on his own.
