Neighbours star Madeleine West reveals she feels like a 'smashed vase' as she details life with newborn after welcoming seventh child at age 47

Daily Mail2 days ago

Madeleine West welcomed her seventh child last month.
The 47-year-old is adjusting to life with a newborn, telling The Sunday Project this weekend that while she is looking well on the outside, it's a different story behind the scenes.
'It's all smoke and mirrors. I'm just a smashed vase that someone has wrapped up with gaffa tape' she joked.
'Don't put flowers and water in me as it will leak straight back out.'
The Neighbours actress continued: 'I'm on auto pilot. I'm deep in the delirium.

'At 3am I got up for a glass of water and decided it was time to scrub out the fish tank and bake a cake, which is what I did.'
Madeleine was on the show to promote her partnership with the Federal Police, which has seen her produce It's Never Too Early, a guide book to keeping kids safe.
'This is so personal for me. It's things that I think most parents would never have considered. Asking yourself really simple but ultimately important questions, like, who will I allow to change my baby's nappy?' she explained.
'If I'm letting someone babysit, who else will have access to that child? Perfect example. If you let a good friend babysit, are they dating someone you don't know well? If he comes over to visit, they get up to answer the phone, am I comfortable with that person having unsupervised time with my child?
'If I look at babysitting, will there be other children in the house who have access to my child? If I'm looking at daycare centres, how can I find one that's government endorsed where everyone's been certified so I know my child is safe?
'Questions that when we're in the thick of early parenting, and we're exhausted, and on the cusp of delirium, it is hard to know the day of the week, let alone important decisions of how to best secure safety.'
Madeleine announced the arrival of her seventh child in April, sharing a glimpse at her newborn in an Instagram post and revealing the bub was in excellent health.
Alongside a truncated image of the child, she star wrote: 'Earthside at last… and utterly perfect'.
The Australian actress did not reveal the sex or name of her new arrival at the time.
It comes after Madeleine opened up about her seventh pregnancy at the age of 47.
The star already shares five daughters and one son with her ex-partner, celebrity chef Shannon Bennett.
In a preview for an interview on 60 Minutes, West said she is not letting naysayers get to her and is determined to keep 'dancing to the beat of my own drum'.
She said many people were shocked to learn she was pregnant with yet another child at her age, but she was also 'surprised' by the sheer amount of support she received.
'There was a lot of shock, naturally. And then, "Are you sure? You're at this point in your life. Your career is blossoming. You've got all these kids,"' West told host Tara Brown.
'But I am surprised by so many people who have reached out saying, "I've done what you're doing and I felt so alone. I felt like everyone would see me at the playground and they would think I'm grandma."'
When asked if she had ever been called a 'grandma at the playground', the actress responded: 'Oh yeah, naturally. But my argument has always been I've always danced to the beat of my own drum.
'I've always done things a little bit different. A little bit outside the norm.'
West revealed the response she received from her friends after she announced her pregnancy in January.
The TV star—who shares Phoenix, 19, Hendrix, 16, Xascha, 14, Xanthe, 12, and twins Xalia and Margaux, 10, with Shannon, 49 - said her pals' initial reaction to her pregnancy news was surprise.
'When I first reached out to my circle and revealed the big news, there was certainly a look. A bit of a stunned mullet, I would say,' she shared.
However, she added the shocked expression was soon followed by 'wow' as her friends asked if she was going to 'keep' the baby.
The controversial question also opened up a conversation about 'geriatric pregnancies' and the risks which come with them, which she expanded on in her interview with Stellar Magazine.
'I strive to not see motherhood as a limitation on my capacities,' she told the publication, but rather something that 'adds to it exponentially'.
She went on to say while falling pregnant certainly wasn't something she was expecting, it was a welcome surprise nonetheless.
'I feel like this little person has come along at the best possible time when I'm so very ready,' she said.
West went on to say she now has 'more time, wisdom and experience' when it comes to parenting.
Reflecting on what is often coined as a 'geriatric pregnancy' she expressed her frustration with the world's lack of conversations around later pregnancy.
West said it's not something 'society discusses at large' despite 'the very real fact that the rate of women having babies in their 40s is increasing'.
Back in January, West announced she was pregnant with her seventh child a decade on from her most recent birth.
She revealed the surprising news in an Instagram post.
In the photo, she flaunted her growing baby bump in a tight-fitting tank top which was lifted to reveal her bare tummy.
'WHOOPS!' she captioned her post. 'Thought it was #perimenopause. I thought WRONG! It's not too much Christmas pudding either. I couldn't be happier.'

Shock disruption boots 7News Brisbane off the air live as Sydney takes over mid-bulletin

Seven viewers in Queensland were left stunned on Monday night when their nightly bulletin was booted off the air and replaced with Sydney news. A power failure caused 7News Brisbane to drop off, with Sydney stars Mark Ferguson and Angela Cox taking over for Queensland's Max Futcher and Katrina Blowers. The switch followed an ad break just after 6.37pm as the Brisbane team rushed to get their anchors back on TV in time for the weather, reported TV Blackbox. 'There was a power failure on station and the team worked incredibly hard to get back on air in time for the Sunshine State's critical weather forecast,' a Seven spokesperson said. The Sydney team covered the news bulletin right up until the weather, with sports presenter Mel McLaughlin finally acknowledging the Queensland audience when she introduced the sports headlines. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Welcome back, and welcome to our Brisbane viewers joining us due to a technical issue,' she said. Futcher and Blowers returned to local screens in time for a feel-good feature about a giant slip and slide in a Colombian village. Tony Auden then wrapped up the show with Queensland's weather forecast. While Queensland sports presenter Steve Titmus was at the desk during the cross to weather, he was unable to present the sports headlines due to the disruption. Futcher signed off for the night by telling the Queensland audience: 'Hope your night is going smoothly.' The disruption comes after three senior reporters at Channel Seven jumped ship to rival Network Ten. Seven's award-winning former foreign correspondent Amelia Brace, 7News Sydney reporter Bill Hogan and Spotlight producer-reporter Denham Hitchcock all resigned from the network last week, The Australian's Media Diary reported. They are reportedly set to join a new investigative show set up by Channel Ten's news boss Martin White. A power failure caused 7News Brisbane to drop off, with Sydney stars Mark Ferguson and Angela Cox taking over for Queensland's Max Futcher and Katrina Blowers. Both pictured Brace and Hitchcock exited Seven's studio in Sydney within hours of quitting and started their new jobs at Ten on Monday morning while Hogan will begin with the network in three weeks' time. Ten has reportedly offered Brace a $50,000 increase on the $220,000 a year she was being paid. In a message to colleagues on Friday, she said: 'It feels off to not have an official "last day" to say goodbye, but it's best for me to just fade away for now. 'Stand up for yourselves, and each other… and think of me every time you have to find a f***ing case study.' Meanwhile, Hitchcock departs only three months after having returned to Seven after a couple of years living on a catamaran with his young family. 'I'm back. It's time to wash some of the salt out—and get back to what I do best,' he said in an Instagram post. 'Back in 2019 the network asked me to start what would eventually become the Spotlight program with one producer and one cameraman—and as the limited shows proved successful—the team quickly grew and it would turn into the network's flagship program. 'I stepped away for a few years to go sailing with the family—and have returned to find a new EP, a new team, new reporters, a fresh energy, an abundance of stories, and some genuine excitement about the year ahead.' He ended the message by asking followers and fans to send 'research ideas'. The departures confirm industry whispers Ten will launch a 'news magazine show' to take on the likes of Nine's 60 Minutes, Seven's Spotlight, and the ABC's Four Corners. The Australian reported last month a 'crack team' of producers, referred to as the 'investigations unit' was being assembled to helm the new program. It was claimed Channel Ten reporter Dan Sutton would be the show's executive producer, with potential reporters currently being screen tested. A Network Ten spokesperson confirmed the establishment of the investigation unit to Daily Mail Australia.

The unexpected $5.50 item that's flying off shelves at Coles: 'I can't find it anywhere it's like liquid gold'

A new supermarket item has hit shelves at Coles - and Aussie shoppers are already scrambling to get their hands on it. Cocobella, the cult-favourite brand known for its refreshing coconut water and sell-out chocolate blend, has just launched a new Coffee Latte flavour - with fans calling it the ultimate iced pick-me-up. Shoppers have described the chilled, dairy-free drink as 'like a barista-made coconut latte in a bottle' - and some are so hooked, they're clearing out shelves across the country. 'I can't find it anywhere - it's like liquid gold,' one shopper revealed on social media. An anonymous shopper told FEMAIL: 'I was so excited when I spotted the new Cocobella Coffee Latte. 'I'm obsessed with the brand's coconut and chocolate flavours, so I was keen to give this one a try. It was nice and very coconutty - but it's never going to beat chocolate.' Hundreds of shoppers have expressed their excitement over the new flavour, including Lex Dyer who filmed her taste test and declared the drink 'a 10 out of 10'. 'I can't even have a conversation in the morning without my coffee - and oh my god, this is fabulous,' she said. Others have been quick to weigh in online. 'I didn't expect to like it this much. It's smooth, not too sweet, and actually really refreshing,' one shopper said. 'The chocolate is unreal, I'm actually excited to try the coffee. It sounds weird but Cocobella rarely misses,' another wrote. A Perth-based student wrote: 'It's giving me beachy café vibes but in a bottle. The coconut twist makes it feel summery - even in winter.' Another fan said: 'It's actually good. Wish you could get coconut take-away coffee… imagine a coconut flat white?!' Not everyone has been converted, though. 'It's not bad but I still love the chocolate better,' one said. 'The coffee one's nice, but the choc is elite.' The new drink blends Cocobella's signature coconut water with a smooth coffee extract to create a plant-based, dairy-free iced coffee that's both hydrating and energising. Each bottle is available in the refrigerated or drink section of Coles supermarkets nationally, and retails for $5.50. More Australians are turning to dairy-free options as they seek out gentler alternatives for digestion, reduce their intake of animal products, or follow plant-based diets. Coconut-based drinks like Cocobella offer a creamy, satisfying texture without the lactose, making them a popular choice for those with intolerances or looking to cut down on dairy. Plus, with fewer calories and no added sugar, they tick the box for health-conscious shoppers chasing both flavour and function. Whether you're a die-hard Cocobella loyalist or just looking for a new way to wake up, this coffee-coconut combo might just be your new favourite fridge find - if you can get your hands on it.
