Unlicensed medical shop raided in Hyderabad; drugs worth Rs 25,000 seized
Hyderabad, June 11 (UNI) Officials of the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, raided an unlicensed medical shop operating at Zamistanpur, Musheerabad, Hyderabad, and seized a large quantity of medicines stocked illegally for sale.
Acting on credible information, DCA officials conducted a raid on Tuesday at New Al-Shifa Medical and General Stores, located near Bandham Function Hall. The shop, operated by Mohd Saddam Hussain, was found to be functioning without a valid drug license, in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
During the raid, officers found unauthorised stocks of 35 different types of medicines, including antibiotics, abortion kits, and habit-forming drugs such as Alprazolam and Tramadol tablets, along with IV fluids. The seized stock was valued at approximately Rs 25,000.
The raid was carried out by a team comprising D Saritha, Assistant Director (Secunderabad), along with Drugs Inspectors P Renuka (Musheerabad), B Govind Singh (Secunderabad), G Anil (Malakpet), and M. Surendranath (Begumpet). Samples of the seized medicines were taken for analysis, and further investigation is underway.
DCA officials have cautioned that wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to unlicensed outlets will also face strict action. Supplying drugs to entities without a valid license is a punishable offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, a DCA statement said on Wednesday.

Mali, a resident of Thoppa Mudaliyar Street in Shivajinagar, has now landed in police net for printing counterfeit notes while renting a hotel room in Tasker Town from June 1 to 7. According to the complaint filed by Hotel High Street manager Mohammed Sarifuddin with Commercial Street police, Mali had booked a room for two days initially. He later extended the booking twice, first online and then offline for the last two days. While checking out around 1pm on June 7, he paid Rs 3,000 in cash, producing six notes of Rs 500 face value at the reception. However, in the early hours of the same day, some pourakarmikas working with BBMP had found a few counterfeit notes when they picked up garbage from the hotel. They informed the hotel management, which confirmed the notes were fake but had no idea who had disposed of them. After Mali checked out, the hotel staff grew suspicious and examined the notes he had given — and voila, they proved to be counterfeit. Sarifuddin and a few other hotel staff went to the room Mali had occupied and found a few notes in the dustbin. Subsequently, Sarifuddin lodged a police complaint, handing over five fake notes as evidence. Paper sheets used to print the counterfeit notes were also found in the room. A senior cop said Mali was nabbed from the address on his Aadhaar card, which he had furnished when checking into the hotel. He then rented the hotel room, smuggled in a printer and scanner inside a bag, and made copies of a real Rs 500 note. While he managed to scan, print and cut some notes to the actual size, a few came out poorly and were tossed in the bin. The youth has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. A case has been registered under BNS Sections 179 (using as genuine, forged or counterfeit coin, govt stamp, currency notes or banknotes), 180 (possession of forged or counterfeit coin, govt stamp, currency notes or banknotes), 182 (making or using documents resembling currency notes or banknotes), and 318 (cheating). Police are probing to see if Mali had paid in counterfeit notes at any other place.

Bengaluru cops nab Nigerian woman trying to peddle 5.3kg MDMA worth Rs 10.5 crore
Bengaluru: In one of the biggest drug busts in recent times, a 25-year-old Nigerian was arrested by Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths when she was trying to sell MDMA crystals weighing over 5.3kg, and valued at around Rs 10.5 crore, near Rajanukunte. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The accused has been identified as Akinwunmi Princess Ifeoluwa, alias Princess, a resident of Uttam Nagar in Nawada, New Delhi. CCB's anti-narcotics wing (ANW) police inspector Rakshith AK got a tip-off around noon on June 10 about a foreign national trying to sell drugs in Tarahunase village, 6km from Rajanukunte. Rakshith alerted his seniors, including assistant commissioner of police Mahananda HK, who formed a special team to nab the peddler. When cops rushed to Tarahunase village, they found a woman with a bag seemingly waiting for someone. After confirming she was the peddler flagged by the informant, police detained her around 4pm. When police asked her to show her bag, she didn't cooperate initially. Eventually, she confessed she had come to New Delhi in Oct 2021 using a student visa. She claimed she wanted to get admission at a private deemed-to-be university, but when she didn't get a proper response from the college, she didn't enrol and started working as a hairdresser and pedicurist in the national capital. As she was unable to earn enough to lead a lavish life, she went into the drug peddling business. She allegedly met another Nigerian woman named Asa, who instructed her to take drugs to Bengaluru by bus and hand them over to someone. Accordingly, Princess packed the MDMA crystal in packets and reached Bengaluru on June 10. While she was waiting for Asa's message about the man to whom she was supposed to hand over the drugs, she was caught by cops. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Foreigners Act, 1946, for overstaying. Official death toll only after DNA testing is completed: Amit Shah
Ahmedabad, June 12 (UNI) Expressing deep sorrow on behalf of the nation, following the tragic Air India flight crash, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that the official death toll will be declared only after DNA testing is completed. Speaking to reporters after visiting the crash site, Shah said, 'Immediately after the incident, the Government of Gujarat activated all disaster response mechanisms. The Health Department, Fire Brigade, Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were swiftly mobilized. Rescue and relief operations began without delay.' He confirmed that the retrieval of bodies is nearly complete and emphasized the importance of proper identification. 'DNA sampling of the victims' relatives who have reached the site will be completed within the next two to three hours. Families of those living abroad have already been informed,' Shah stated. Moreover, the Home Minister said that approximately 1,000 DNA tests are expected to be conducted. The testing will be carried out jointly by Gujarat's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). 'We are working to ensure the process is completed in the shortest time possible, after which the bodies will be respectfully handed over to their families,' he informed. Shah said that the high volume of fuel—approximately 1,25,000 litres—aboard the aircraft caused an intense fire, eliminating any chance of survival for most passengers. 'The temperature became so extreme that survival was nearly impossible,' he said. However, he shared that one passenger had miraculously survived and that he met the injured individual at the hospital. The Home Minister also informed that the Aviation Department has initiated an urgent and comprehensive investigation into the crash to determine its cause. 'This is a moment of great grief for the nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by this tragedy,' Shah added. Notably, a UK-bound Air India flight with 242 people on board crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among those killed in the crash.
